Chapter 182
February 2nd, 2021, 00:00
Twelve hundred kilometers in space above Japan’s atmosphere
The bright lights coming from the Earth added to the scenery within the void of space 1,200 kilometers away. Meanwhile, the repeated bright flashes of light coming from a certain part of the Earth were numbering in the dozens. The flashes of light were the explosions coming from the Zinog and Epirus missiles launched by the CFS/A-31SP three-toed crow space fighter jets.
The first set of the space fighter jet flight wing’s targets were the radar and anti-air interception artillery forces that were guarding Japan’s entire atmosphere. When the start of the war was getting closer, Japan had activated all of their scanning equipment. First, Japan had deployed their E-767 early warning radar system and E-2 early warning system planes, with ranges of 800 kilometers and 560 kilometers, respectively. Then the F-2 and F-35A jets equipped with their superior detection capabilities were deployed next.
Meanwhile, on land, Japan began to operate its six J/FPS-5 terrestrial radar bases with a range of 1,800 kilometers and eight J/FPS-3 radar bases with a range of 620 kilometers. The radars sent out powerful radio waves towards the Corean peninsula, while the AN/TPY-2 and N-SAM targeting radars were fully prepared to intercept any oncoming missiles.
Finally, at sea, the naval self-defense forces formed a linear formation across the western shoreline with aegis destroyers preparing to strike down any cruise and ballistic missiles coming from Corea.
In short, Japan’s atmosphere was covered with a tightly knit radar net that would not allow even a single fly pass through undetected. If any threats were caught in the net, then interception missiles would be fired to strike down the target at 100 percent accuracy. Every single force in Japan was standing by to take down the threat.
However, only two minutes had passed since the war broke out, and the net was broken through. The space fighter jet plasma missile attacks used by the Corean military were something the Japanese joint command did not expect or plan for. Plasma missiles that rivaled the power of a 20-kiloton nuclear bomb were falling from the sky.
The joint command office and the cabinet intelligence had studied Corea’s military strategies and tactics based on the Chinese-Corean war. Their main interest was Corea’s sudden ballistic missile attacks at early morning. At the start of the war, China’s main forces in the eastern military were unable to make a single move to intercept the oncoming missiles before being taken out. The conclusion Japan had come up with was that China’s YJ-26B and YJ-26B radars that it claimed were superior were not as capable as they had expected, as proven by their performance on the field.
China had taken a critical hit from blindly trusting their inferior copied radars that befit their reputation of a nation that could only come up with copies and no original technology. The Japanese joint command office had begun to operate all of their radars when the war began based on this analysis.
However, this flawed logic had caused them to take irreparable damage. A few of the radar bases were able to detect the Zinog and Epirus plasma cluster missiles and the pulse missiles falling at Mach 40, but they were only able to detect them ten seconds before impact. Since there wasn’t enough time to react, the bases were helpless and took multiple hits.
One kilometer above the six J/FPS-5 radar bases that could detect the entire Corean peninsula, the Epirus missiles exploded and caused a strong SEMP wave to spread out. The Southwest radar force, the Yojadake base, the air force’s fighter wing, the western fighter wing’s Shimokoshiki base, the Irumagi base, the Ominato northern base, and the communication bases for the air force were all turned into piles of scraps.
Fortunately, if it could be considered one, the Aioka radar base under the eastern air force was able to detect the Epirus missiles that targeted them and managed to intercept five of the missiles using their own SM-3 missiles fired by the Kongo class destroyers. However, the radar planes and the other J/FPS-3 radars being operated by the bases all lost their abilities to conduct the operation due to the pulse waves.
The issue was that the Zinog plasma cluster missiles had annihilated the THADD and N-SAM surfaces of the air missile artillery forces. All six THADD artillery bases and four N-SAM missile forces, excluding those operated by the Americans, had their radars taken out, leaving them half-blind. Japan’s capability to intercept the second wave of missile attacks had gone down to 30 percent of its original capacity.

Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, the Emergency Situation Center, Tokyo, Japan
The emergency situation center was in an uproar from the operators shouting in despair. The center was waiting for the reports of missiles being detected by their radar net, but the contrasting reports that came in had the entire room in chaos.
“How did it come to this? Joint Commander Masaki!” Minister of National Defense Shibasaki shouted at Joint Commander Masaki while questioning him. However, Commander Masaki Hajime was unable to give a straight answer.
“The thing is... One moment, sir. I will check on the situation.”
“Is that all you can say?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe joint commander sighed and avoided Minister Shibasaki’s gaze.
“Get back to me immediately.”
“Yes, sir!”
Only ten minutes had passed since Japan was attacked, and since there was no incoming information about the method of attack, the joint commander could not know how things had transpired. There was no radar activity that indicated a ballistic missile attack coming from Corea. Even if they did fire the missiles out of the J/FPS-5 radar’s range using mobile launch platforms from the most northern section of Manchuria, the missiles would have been detected after they reached the mid-point.
However, all it took was an instant. Only the first escorting fleet’s Kongo destroyer was able to launch five of their SM-3 missiles ten seconds before the impact of the enemy missiles traveling at Mach 40 and managed to intercept them successfully.
“Air Force commander! Contact the anti-air forces immediately.”
“Yes, sir!”
That was when an operator’s report froze the entire room.
“The Corean peninsula has fired ballistic missiles. Currently, they have launched 58 rounds... and the number is rising.”
At the center screen, red dots symbolizing ballistic missiles began to show up across the entire Corean territory, and the numbers were rising still.
“Can we determine what type of ballistic missiles they are?”
“Not yet, sir. The total numbers are now at 135 rounds! And rising.”
Since the defensive capabilities against missiles were now down to 30 percent of their original capacity, Japan sustaining damage was inevitable. Joint Commander Masaki Hajime looked for Prime Minister Abe. The prime minister was not in the room, despite the dire situation.
“Minister Shibasaki! Where is the prime minister, sir?”
Minister Shibasaki, who was staring at the screen that was showing more and more red dots, came back to his senses when he heard the joint commander’s question and answered in a shaking voice, “The prime minister is on the phone with the president of America.”
“Ah! No! If that’s the case, Minister Shibasaki, we must retaliate with our ballistic and cruise missiles, sir. I request for your approval, sir.”
“O-of course.”
“Commanders for the air force and army! Give the order to launch the ballistic missiles. Also, fire all cruise missiles as well.”
“Yes, joint commander, sir!”
“The Corean ballistic missiles are now at a total of 425 rounds. Reports of cruise missiles being launched are coming in as well.”
Since the terrestrial radar bases had been rendered useless from the SEMP waves, the early warning radar planes and the aegis destroyers began to report their findings to the situation center directly, in real-time. The operators in turn would report the messages to the room loudly.
Corea’s joint chief of staff had started the missile attacks fully after the first round of missiles were launched from the three-toed crow space fighter jets. The screen showed hundreds of red dots with lines that were moving towards the entire Japanese territory.

Seoul Yongsan-ku, B2 bunker (ROK military joint command center)
“A total of 425 rounds of ballistic missiles have been launched so far. We are five minutes and 58 seconds away from impact!”
Corea’s missile forces command and the tactical missile forces under the fifth corps that had incorporated North Korea’s missile forces had fired all of their 500-kilometer-ranged Scud-C missiles and 1,300-kilometer-ranged Rodong missiles. This was in lieu of the plan to exhaust the previous missile supplies and restock with the new type of missiles.
“What’s the status of the cruise missiles launch?” the operations director asked after he heard the operator’s report.
“Each corps’ artillery brigades have fired the type Hyun-mu 3E2-A (range 500 kilometers) and type B (range 1,000 kilometers) missiles, totaling at 250 rounds, sir.”
“Ah! Reports are coming in from the Apollo 1 satellite. Ballistic missiles have been launched from across Japan.”
“Their numbers?”
“Twenty-nine rounds currently, and rising, sir.”
“I suppose there are still a few people making the right calls in Japan, Chairman Kang, sir!”
“Haha, it seems that way. I figured they would only try to make defensive maneuvers before it was over. Since things are going this way, I suppose we should give the decisive blow!”
“Yes, sir!”
“Offense is its own game. Now, how about we make our own defensive tactics?”
“Yes, sir. Transitioning to the CAMD (Corea Air and Missile Defense) system! Every center is to display the status of the interception on-screen number 3, and focus on the interception.”
“Yes, understood!”
The screen operators all began to manipulate the consoles, and the main center screen changed to show more detailed information on the interception status.
“Currently, Japan has 200 ballistic missiles. The type is J-ONE missiles manufactured domestically that have a maximum range of 1,000 kilometers and a 500-kilogram warhead.”
“Two hundred rounds. They made a lot in such a short period.”
“Abe’s greed for weapons is a bit too much, don’t you think so?”
“Is that so?”
“They have a larger number of cruise missiles compared to ballistic ones, don’t they?”
There was a total of 350 orange dots that symbolized the trajectory of cruise missiles. These were the type -13 A/B cruise missiles and the Tomahawk block 3 and 4 bought from America.
“Based on the range, they seem to have set the targets to include the northern state.”
“Since the cruise missiles are near sonic speeds, we have some time. Tell them to be sure to intercept the ballistic missiles accurately.”
“Yes, sir.”

Seoul Yongsan-ku, CC Bunker (tactical strike satellite Zeus’s mission control) action
The Zeus 1 satellite entered the interception phase after receiving the data link coming in from the Apollo 1 satellite for the oncoming J-ONE Japanese missiles.
“Check the coordinates of the targets.”
“Checking the 200 targets of the list, sir.”
On mission control’s screen, a crosshair was being set for every single ballistic missile. Then the interception operator reported in.
“All 200 targets have been confirmed!”
“What’s the plasma output?”
“At 100 percent without any issues, sir.”
“Fire!”
“Fire!”
With the commander’s orders, the interception operator relayed the orders. The operators began to pull the triggers of their controllers.
Pew— Pew— Pew— Pew— Pew—
At the speed of light, the blue light beams began to strike down the Japanese ballistic missiles in order.
“We have intercepted 34 ballistic missiles so far. We have 166 left, sir.”

Five hundred kilometers above the atmosphere in Corea’s sky
While the Zeus 1 satellites were busy intercepting the missiles by spraying laser beams across the sky, the three-toed crow flight wing lowered its altitude and entered the atmosphere. They moved to conduct their mission of the second phase of the CAMD system. A moment later, the three-toed crow flight wing formed an arc right before entering the atmosphere and detected the Japanese ballistic missiles flying across the sky.
-This is Crow 1. Each flight wing member is to intercept the Japanese ballistic missiles. Each target’s data will be set by Crow 1.
-Crow 2, copy that.
-Crow 3, copy that.
-Crow 4, copy that.
The four three-toed crows all freely maneuvered around the atmosphere and began to emit their powerful 50-millimeter laser beams towards their targets to conduct their interception duties.
