Keng rushed at the large worm. It's mouth growing wider as lava started to bubble from its mouth.
"I— I don't even know if I can do it!" Lily shouted, running right. The ukulele flew into her hands as she looked down at it. "What do I even play?" The worm lurched forward spewing lava straight for Keng, again. Keng glanced left and right, marking spots as he jumped to the side. The lava landed, the molten liquid instantly eating away the cavern floor and walls. It followed Keng, seemingly knowing where he was going.
'How does this worm even know where I am? Seismic vibrations?' Keng wondered, displacing himself into the first Mark to the worm's right. The worm immediately turned to spew lava at Lily. 'Would it sense off of energy, too?' Keng dashed forward, slashing Hydrosphere at the worm. The worm screeched, lava flying upwards as Lily screamed. The lava flew upwards, hitting the wall behind Lily as lava bits flew past her. She screamed as she forced herself to continue on her run.
"I don't even know what to do!" Lily shouted. "Ahhh, I guess this?" She began to pluck the ukulele strings, music notes bouncing all around her. "At least this room's acoustics are good… Uhhh, how do I slow this worm and silence it?" Her ukulele began to shimmer as the energy around her grew. Music notes buzzed around her as she continued to play. The worm spun around for Keng, who was striking the worm's body. It screeched as lava spilled like a baby puking on itself.
Keng jumped backwards, pulling the energy of the empowered Energy Siphon with him. The wisps fluttered around him, dancing around him as the lava flew straight for him.
'Displacement 2.' Keng blinked form his spot, landing close to the worm. The silver energy swirled around him as Second Sun took form. He had definitely gotten used to turning on and off his aura without thought.
"What do I do? Slow it? Is that going to work?" Lily asked Keng, who was twirling the Hydrosphere short swords.
"Paralyze it!" Keng replied. The worm shrieked as lava splashed on the ground around it. Keng jumped backwards putting Hydrosphere up in an X in front of him. "Resonance!" The wisps fluttered like crazy, circling him. His body began to burn bright as the air around him started to fizzle.
'He's doing that here?!?' Lily thought. She continued to pluck her ukulele. 'A paralyzation effect long enough for Keng to get that out… Ugh, how am I gonna do that?!?' Lily darted to her left, releasing her hold on the ukulele as it started to float, continuing the song. She pulled the flute out of thin air and lifted it up to her lips. She licked her dry lips, about to play when her father's words came to her, again.
"Your instruments are what, Lily?" Fan'r asked. They sat underneath the large tree in the backyard. Fan'r sat across from Lily, who was sitting at the edge of the shade. The sun spots seeped through, occasionally blinding her as she tried to ignore it.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"They're a tool to calm the crowd and attack the enemy." Lily answered. Fan'r shook his head. She had gotten it wrong, again.
"What are your instruments for?" Fan'r rephrased the question. Lily looked at him confused. He had been asking her the same set of questions for the last week and she hadn't gotten it right. Her doubt rose with each passing day and she was starting to become frustrated.
"I don't know. I use them to cast spells." Lily answered. Fan'r shook his head.
"What are they used for? What's the purpose of you using your instruments?"
"They're imbued with magical energy to—"
"No. Again."
"They're used to protect."
"No. Again."
"I don't know!" Lily finally blew up. She leaned backwards into the sunlight and squinted her eyes at the suns. "You won't give me a hint and that's what the instruments are for. They're instruments used to create music and I just so happen am able to use the sound of music to—"
"Sound." Fan'r pointed at her. He watched his daughter begrudgingly lift herself up. Fan'r's back stayed straightened inches from the tree bark as he waited for his daughter to collect herself. "Music is a form of sound. Just like your brothers who use a form of sound to create magic."
"Yeah, that's obvious. We all got our magic from you. What's this all about my instruments then?" Lily asked.
"Your instruments are a clear way of producing sound. They're only the start to your journey with sound, Lily." Fan'r told her.
"I don't understand, Dad. What do you mean they're only the start?" Lily tilted her head in confusion. Fan'r lowered his arm, raising his palm upwards. Sound waves began to move in his hand. Like her brothers, Lily had a keen perception of sounds. Her Mom told her it was due to her Dad's immense 'gifts'.
"There will be a time where you must play the instruments of the world. The wind, the dirt, the grass, the leaves. Your instruments are only the beginning. They'll eventually hold your progress back." Fan'r told her. He sucked in a breath and continued. "When you're in the heat of battle, you'll have to protect your allies while also dealing with the enemy. If you are stopped from playing your instruments, what then?"
Lily lowered her head to think.
"You said they would help me. And now you're saying they will stop me from continuing to grow stronger?" Lily looked at him. She was frustrated and young. Fan'r knew his words wouldn't reach his daughter, but he continued anyways.
"What I said then is true and what I say now is true. You will still be able to use them, but you need to wield sound without them. Sound is best produced by what's around you. The effects you can't create on your instruments, must be created some other way, right?"
Lily gritted her teeth as she released her flute. The ukulele continued to play as she slid to a stop. The bubbling molten rocks sank into the ground thirty feet away from her. She watched the worm throw its mouth back as its mouth began to build with lava.
"You did it on me when I was in your soul world. Even when you're in doubt, you still have all of the powers you are capable of doing. Even using the sound of wind as an attack against me." Keng's voice echoed in her head.
'I did it with wind alone.' Lily thought. She didn't really remember much within. It just felt dark and then it was light. She let her feelings ruminate in her chest as she listened. The lava bubbled as the waters rushed somewhere away from her view. The worm even made noise.
"Rushing water." Lily whispered. The sound grew around her as the worm started to throw its mouth forward. The lava began to billow as the worm pointed straight at Keng. "Enhance it. Paralyze… Paralyze… Paralyze…" Electricity seemed to course through her as the sounds of rushing water grew. The energy billowed around Lily as Keng watched the worm spew lava at him.
"Paralyze!" Lily shouted throwing her hand forward. She watched the notes fly straight for the worm. Keng gritted his teeth, debating if he should run and cancel Resonance or not. The notes flew at the worm, flashing a bright color as its body seized up.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmKeng watched in slow motion as the lava began to spill like puke all over the worm. He still had some lava to deal with.
[Resonance State has been achieved!]
"Resonance: Devouring Sea Dragon!" Keng shouted. Hydrosphere glowed as the form of a sea dragon rushed out of the blade. The waters ate the lava, creating steam as it pushed forward. Keng's jaw locked as he gritted his teeth for impact. The sea dragon pushed itself forward, pushing out of Hydrosphere as it slammed into the worm.
The sea dragon wrapped around, swirling upwards as it slammed downwards at the worm, devouring the worm in water. Keng unlocked his jaw and pulled both blades of Hydrosphere backwards, rushing forwards.
"Energy Siphon. Displacement 3." Keng blinked as Hydrosphere glowed. He rushed at the water-covered worm and jumped. "Resonance: Severed Slash." He slashed the air in front of him in an X and watched as silver energy sliced through the worm and the ground like butter.
