Chapter 1018
Maja nestled next to him, her body still filled with tension.
Not until the gentle sound of his breathing reached her ears did she realize that lan had fallen asleep.
His arms were wrapped tightly around her, his chin resting on her shoulder, sleeping soundly.
Maja gazed out at the view from the window, the sunlight bathing the scenery outside, a pang of tenderness
flooding her heart.
lan was a difficult man, his temper not the best, prone to irritation.
He was cold to strangers, but he had a way of melting her heart.
Especially when he let his guard down, it was heart–wrenching.
Maja fell silent, closing her eyes quietly.
She spent the previous night wide awake, worried about the marks on her body. Now, feeling his presence, she
found comfort.
They lay intertwined on the couch, drifting off to sleep.
Zoey walked into the office at some point, noticing Maja’s absence. She figured she must be resting, especially

Zoey placed the documents she was holding on the desk, ready to open the door and call Maja.
Since it was already two hours past, they had to process the afternoon’s paperwork.
But through a slight crack in the door, she noticed a man holding a woman tightly in his arms.
A thin blanket covered the two. Maja seemed petite in his ‘presence as if wholly enveloped in him.
Zoey swallowed the words she was about to say, wisely closed the door, and left the office.
When someone came looking for Maja in the afternoon, Zoey would tell them, “Mr. Pennyfeather is feeling unwell.
Let’s discuss this tomorrow.” So Maja slept peacefully until eight at night.
She woke up when most of the top–floor employees had left.
But lan was still asleep, his arms still holding her tightly.
She felt incredibly at ease, wishing he would hold her forever.
The sky outside was now dark, the neon lights illuminating the city.
The room was dark, with just enough light from outside to see each other’s expressions.
She nudged him a few times and called his name, but lan pulled her back, starting to undress her in the dark.
After a good sleep, it was time to eat.
Maja was helpless, so she let him be.
lan was full of energy. They made love twice in the resting room before he carried her into the office, placing her on
the desk.
Their bodies were warm, lan’s voice was raspy, “We haven’t tried this place yet.”
Maja had no chance to reply before they were at it again.
It wasn’t until four in the morning that he finally dressed her, turning on the lights in the room.
Maja stiffened, her fingers trembling as she fastened the last button.
The bright light revealed their just–finished love–making. Ian had been eager, leaving few marks, but he would
surely notice the ones on her body.
Maja was buttoning her clothes, but her nervousness made it difficult.
Ian walked over, helped her button up the last button, then noticed a teardrop on his hand.
He looked at her confusedly.
“What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable? Or did I hurt you?”
Maja shook her head, revealing large marks on her neck.
lan teaned in, examining the marks.

His fingertips lightly traced the marks, then he lowered his head and kissed them.
“I won’t leave any next time.”
Maja looked at him in disbelief, but his expression was serious.
For a moment, she thought lan was blind.
How could he not know that he left the marks?
But then, she felt a pang of sadness. Perhaps in matters of the heart, he was just a clueless fool.
Maybe he really thought he had made those marks.
Maja breathed a sigh of relief.
lan was already pulling her up. Seeing her wobbly legs, he quickly caught her.
She nestled in his arms, hearing him say, “Tyler said you stayed at a hotel for two nights?”
She stiffened, not good at lying, especially not about this.
His voice was casual as he lifted her into the passenger seat of his car.
“I occasionally stay at hotels in Greenfield, too. I don’t know what the big deal is.”
Maja said nothing; he had given her the perfect excuse.
