Philip's grip tightened even more. Initially, he considered accepting it on the spot.
The prestige of a chairman was worth a nation's fortune. With unrestricted access to the research base's pharmaceuticals, there
wasn't a goal he couldn't achieve. Wasn't this what he had been chasing all along?
But hesitation crept into his heart, causing him to pause for a few seconds. Ten seconds later, he lifted his eyes gently to meet
Isaac's gaze.
"Professor, | got it."
A smile curled at the corners of Isaac's lips. She knew it; Philip was always the type to go all in. After all, it was just a matter of
family. Phil had always had such a low profile that his presence was hardly worth acknowledging.
Isaac patted Philip's shoulder reassuringly, "Go on with your work."
Philip turned away, a shadow of discontent on his face. His gaze fell on lan, who was passing by without a glance in his direction.
The protective suits they wore were so bulky, and with the goggles, it was impossible to see his eyes. Yet Philip's stare lingered on
lan for a moment before slowly withdrawing.
lan moved on, only to bump into someone heading his way.
It was a face identical to Philip's, and this was the first tlan had seen the two brothers together. He recalled his twith Philip
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtin Greenfield, oblivious to any switch between them.
The resemblance was uncanny, like a copy-paste in human form.
However, Phil's expression was one of simplicity, not noticing lan but instead focusing on Philip in the distance and calling out
cheerfully, "Philip!"
Philip stood rooted, feeling a surge of annoyance at the sight of that face. The research base had no need for a blank slate. When
would this man grow up?
"Philip, what do you think about this?" Phil approached, holding something in his hand. Upon closer inspection, Philip found it was
an insect.
Such creatures were rare at the facility, where the focus was on human subjects, not animals. Philip's face contorted with anger,
snatching the bug and crushing it under his foot.
"At twenty-seven, what are you doing playing with bugs? Do you think you're still a kid?"
Phil's smile collapsed, replaced by a cautious demeanor.
Philip only felt frustrated; he took a deep breath to calm himself, "From now on, every moment of every day, you play me."
In the next second, Phil's expression shifted to one of warmth and sharpness. His ability to mimic was so precise that Philip felt as if
he were looking into a mirror.
At the stime, a sense of loss washed over him. He opened his mouth to speak but said nothing. After all, this was his own
demand.
lan returned to the core lab to find Sarah maintained the posture she had before he left, still engrossed in her work, standing at the
bench performing various experiments.
As he approached, she motioned for him to pass her a test tube.
"The pile of drugs on your left is toxic. Just a whiff could knock you out for days, so be careful." She said in her ever-detached tone,
"The ones on your right could cause hallucinations. Don't mess with any of them."
lan noted the key information - there were drugs here that could induce comas and hallucinations. He committed their
appearances to memory and continued to assist her silently.
A flicker of depth crossed her eyes, like ripples on the surface of the ocean, concealing unknown depths of emotion. Neither spoke.
Engulfed in her research, Sarah would lose track of time, forgoing meals and water. It wasn't until bedtthat she finally rubbed
her temples and waved him off, "Go and rest."
With that, she just turned and left.
Her room was a spacious suite. After shedding her lab coat and taking a shower, she slipped into her pajamas and downed a few
pills from a bottle she picked up.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIn less than ten minutes, she was asleep; once again, she had the dream, one filled with images she cherished. Her face softened
in sleep.
"Boys should carry the heavier burdens while girls take the lighter ones."
"Maja, be good. Mommy's here. Don't be afraid."
"Remember this thing; it might help you one day."
The sleeping woman's lips curved into a smile, the sharpness of her being slowly fading away.
