Phil didn't hesitate any longer and poured the potion down his throat. Isaac reached out to stop him, but it was futile. She heard
Philip speak up at this moment.
"Professor, | appreciate all the care you've given over the years, but what you did to Phil is pretty vile. Then again, | guess I'm one
to talk since I'm just as despicable. | wouldn't have gotten this president's role if Phil hadn't warmed your bed. You must have really
liked Phil, huh?"
Isaac's body stiffened. She couldn't bring herself to look at Phil. It was as if her deepest secret had been laid bare, and she felt
utterly exposed.
Even in her current state, her first thought was hoping Phil wouldn't look at her now. She felt embarrassed and ugly.
Over the years, she had tried every trick in the book to maintain her skin, so she could look the way she did now.
Head bowed, she remained silent, only now realizing that Philip knew everything, saw everything - as if he was looking on her
trouble with indifference.
"You have a genuine fondness for Phil, but he's clueless. He doesn't grasp human emotions, let alone your pitiful affection. You

for him. Professor, you must be pretty cozy with someone up top, otherwise, how could | have gotten this president's position? The
poison was fed to you by Phil himself. It must be agonizing."
And agonizing it was. Philip knew how to drive a person to the brink. He had Phil administer the poison, and Phil's unhesitating
compliance was a sharp sting to Isaac.
She had fought hard to protect Phil from becoming a perpetual lab rat, given his exceptional abilities. No one knew how much she
had maneuvered behind the scenes.
"Professor, it's a shame, really. Before, you pined for Augus, but he wouldn't give you the tof day. Now, you long for Phil, but in
his eyes, you're no different from a stranger. How tragic."
"So what?" Isaac was in pain all over; head still bowed, she didn’t look at anyone.
"What's wrong with that? Why am | tragic? | loved Augus, and | nearly killed the person he loved. | wanted Phil, and | got him into
bed, tand again. Where's the tragedy? | got what | wanted. Of course, | knew Phil didn't care for me; he's just a fool."
Philip didn’t expect her response at all, pausing for a few seconds before furrowing his brow at her.
She remained head down, even now, worried about how she appeared in Phil's mind. Yet she was painfully aware that, no matter
her image, Phil would never remember her.
She chuckled bitterly, her shoulders shaking, also shaking from the poison Phil had poured into her and kept coughing up blood.
"I'm not pathetic. The real tragedy is you. You don't understand feelings, have never loved anyone, nor did you protect your only
kin. You used to be my lapdog, and now you think you're the master? You have no clue what you want in this life. Just when
everything's within reach, you're ready to destroy it all. You've always been selfish, never considering Phil. But he's filled with
thoughts of his only kin. You think I'm pitiful? Pity yourself, pity Phil."
Isaac knew she was dying. The poison fed to her was no benign substance; it would ensure an undignified death.
With her remaining time, she said all she needed to. She never looked at Phil but rasped, "There's something I've never said
before, Phil. | slept with you because | liked you."
With that, her eyes closed, and she fell to the ground. But death didn't cimmediately; she struggled before that. She didn't
allow herself making any sounds; in front of the one she loved, pleading for help or writhing in pain loudly would only embarrass
her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmShe preferred to endure the pain.
Phil had been listening to their exchange, yet not quite understanding. So he asked, "Philip, what does it mean to like someone?"
After he spoke, the room fell silent except for the occasional gasp from Isaac. Phil didn't look at Isaac but walked over to Philip.
"What is liking?" He asked so earnestly, yet he never gave Isaac even a glance.
Philip didn't answer, as if struck by sunseen force. He suddenly let out a laugh, which grew louder before his expression
turned dark again.
"It's the cheapest, most pointless emotion. Only fools get caught up in it. You don't need to understand."
