Dylan froze in place, certain images flashing through his mind. His cheeks flushed with an unnatural tint as he awkwardly pushed
her away.
Clearing his throat, he realized he wasn't alone; a few pairs of eyes were fixed on him amidst the surrounding clamor.
"What's the deal now?"
Walter, seeing the girl's charming looks and impressive moves - not to mention her forwardness - felt a twinge of envy.
"Dylan, buddy, you've got sluck. You take a nap and wake up to find we're about to wrap this up."
Dylan rubbed his temples, about to speak, when the girl's hand slowly snaked around his back, locking him in place.
He stiffened, sidestepping away, but she mirrored his every move. His head pounded with a dull ache. Ignoring her for the
moment, he turned to lan.
"What's our play now?"
lan's gaze drifted to Sarah, who had been daydreaming since she first saw Dylan. She snapped back to reality.
"The chaos is probably Philip's doing. He must've figured out we infiltrated the place. This whole stunt is likely just to flush you out.
We can't get that badge off him now; he's gone into hiding, probably bunkered down in the control room - the most fortified part of
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtthe entire compound. If he doesn't open the door willingly, there's no way to breach it from the outside. He's watching the whole
show from there, hoping those test subjects will take us out. And if they don't, he's got the whole pharmacy at his disposal."
lan wasn't surprised, probably had his cover blown with Philip. A guy like Philip, always on high alert, would've known instantly
about the infiltration.
But lan hadn't anticipated Philip would be mad enough to want to destroy everything here. Mad and vicious.
Getting Philip's badge was now out of the question. As lan was about to ask something, Philip's voice boomed through the hall.
"Gotcha."
There was a hint of amusement in that voice. Philip's lips curled into an excited smile as he watched the screens in front of him.
His voice echoed everywhere. A minute later, images of lan and his group were broadcasted on the largest screen.
That screen, once used by the high-ups to monitor the central hall, now showed real-tsurveillance of lan and his team.
lan looked up, and swept a glance at the screen. The cameras here were all hidden; there was no way to find them out. He
would've destroyed if he had known their locations.
Philip's voice sounded again at this very moment.
"Let's continue our gof hide and seek. Kill these people, and I'll call off the test subjects. If you want to survive, better get to
it."
Phil joined in, chuckling foolishly, "Philip, this seems like fun."
It was like those survival games he used to play, where only a few could make it out alive. Instantly, lan and his team beclive
targets, and just then, the ground trembled beneath them.
He turned to Sarah, his voice steady, "We can't take on all these researchers. Even a battle of attrition would break us. Let's use
the explosives."
Sarah looked up at the ceiling, her voice raspy, "Using explosives could trigger a quake. We might not be lucky enough to survive."
"Doctor, we have to take a chance. If we don't, we're all dead."
There were numerous researchers in the base, and with their faces plastered on the big screen, the panicked crowd would believe
Philip's words and attack them in desperation.
With so many toxins at hand, there was no telling what the desperate crowd might use. The best plan was to retreat to the core
lab, scatter the explosives, and set them off. If an earthquake did hit, the doors would be compromised.
As they made their way back, attackers converged on them from all directions, but Walter and the girl held them off.
But just as they were about to enter the core lab, Walter was sent flying with a punch. It was Number 8, who, like all the other
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmsubjects except the girl, had inhaled a rage-inducing gas and could no longer recognize friend from foe, attacking everything in
sight.
He couldn't even recognize Sarah and lunged at her. lan quickly pulled Sarah behind him, taking a punch to the chest that nearly
made him spit out blood.
"Inside, now!"
He shoved everyone into the core lab, staying outside to face the raging weapon alone.
