Tflew by, and within a couple of days, a helicopter dispatched by Abner's people was buzzing over Fishing Village. The
villagers, who had only seen such marvels on TV, swarmed excitedly around the landing site.
Three choppers in all had arrived, and the leader began showing around a picture of Abner, asking if anyone had seen him. It
wasn't long before the trail led to Tobias.
Tobias' eyes sparkled with recognition. "That's Abner, my brother from another mother! He's at my place. Con, I'll show you!"
He led the way, cheeks flushed with excitement. Helicopters! Three of them! Just like in the movies! Who on earth was Abner, to
arrive in such style?
A group of about eight men followed Tobias to his home, and their brows furrowed at the modest living conditions. Abner emerged
to a chorus of concern.
"Boss, you alright?"
"Mr. Abner, you had us worried sick."
"We've got the traitor locked up, just waiting for you to give the word."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTheir genuine worry for Abner was palpable. After a quick check to confirm he was unharmed, they were ready to leave.
Abner was set to depart immediately but paused when Tobias asked, "Handsome, are you going to leave?"
He turned to his men. "Head to the nearest town, draw sextra cash."
Two of his men took off again in their helicopters.
Abner ruffled Tobias" hair. "I'll stick around a couple more days."
Tobias felt a pang of melancholy but knew deep down that Abner belonged to a different world.
He bowed his head, returning to the stove to prepare dinner.
Abner's crew started pitching tents in the yard to settle in for their stay. Tobias felt slightly embarrassed; his pantry was hardly
stocked for guests. The harvest had been meager, and his dad hadn't brought much fish hfrom his last trip to sea. They were
waiting for him to return from town that very night.
Jackson, Tobias' dad, had gone to town for groceries but hadn't returned by eight o'clock. Tobias becconcerned; his dad was
usually back by now.
He asked the men camping in the yard, "Hey guys, any of you got a cell? | need to call my dad."
The leader promptly handed over his phone. Tobias dialed Jackson's number, but there was no answer.
Worried, Tobias grabbed a flashlight and was about to head out when Abner, seeing his distress, offered to help, sending his men to
join the search.
The village was silent at night, and the search party combed the road between Fishing Villiage and the town several times to no
avail.
As dawn was breaking, Tobias sat down on the ground, overwhelmed with anxiety, and began to cry.
Abner had no choice but to deploy his helicopters in the search, but even after three hours, there was no sign of Jackson.
Frowning, Abner headed to the Temple family estate.
In the Temple's vegetable garden, memorial papers lay scattered, dampened by the morning mist and dissolving into the mud.
Fabian had been buried the previous day, not far from the family's estate.
Standing in the yard, Abner heard the mournful sound of a bugle playing in the distance - a funeral service for Phoebe.
He had wanted to investigate the body for any clues, but the wake was crowded with family members keeping vigil, making it
impossible for outsiders to get close.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWith Jackson now missing, the village had lost two residents in quick succession, three including Fabian.
If Phoebe's death was connected to Queena, what about Fabian? And what about Jackson's disappearance?
Phoebe's body was still in her coffin, set to be interred by noon.
Abner's brow furrowed as he approached the Temple's locked door.
At this hour, Queena was likely with Phoebe's family.
Without hesitation, he ordered his men to break the lock.
