They staggered and tumbled, their lips found each other in a clumsy ballet until they reached the edge of the couch.
Carol couldn't bring herself to look at his expression, "Felix."
Before she could finish, he grabbed a shirt from nearby and threw it over her head.
The next moment, Carol felt a sharp pain.
But it was a pain laced with sweetness, her cheeks on fire.
She and Felix had made love.
Her hands found his neck, and she didn’t want to remove the shirt over her head; the darkness amplified every sensation.
"Felix."
Her body trembled, her hands blindly searching until they were caught and intertwined with his, his palms as hot as if they were
harboring flames.
After an hour of passionate chaos, he withdrew.
Carol removed the shirt from her face to discover the room was pitch black.
"Did the power go out?"
"No."
He had turned off the lights.
Carol's voice was soft, almost melting. She was about to take a sip of water when he pushed her back into the embrace of the sofa.
"We're not done yet."
He began to kiss her ear, driving her wild with desire.
They continued until the break of dawn, and by then, she had no strength left, curling up in his arms and falling asleep.
Felix lay awake, gazing at the ceiling before he released her and wrapped himself in a towel, stepping out to the balcony for a

He smoked a lot this time, one cigarette after another.
Around seven in the morning, Nathan sent a text.
[Did it work?]
[Yeah.]
[The meds are good, right? The doc said that stuff could get you going for a pig, but damn, did you really need to drink that much?
She's a lady of class. Was it really that hard to swallow your pride?]
Felix felt an inexplicable irritation, stubbing out his cigarette and replying without hesitation.
[If you like her that much, you can try too.]
His words were callous, but Carol was never really on his mind.
[You think | don’t want to? But she doesn’t fancy my face. Damn, | envy you. Was she a virgin?]
[Not sure.]
After sending those two words, he stared blankly at the dark screen.
In truth, he knew Carol had been a virgin.
But he strangely didn’t want to admit it, because he had always thought she was frivolous, with plenty of exes, probably well-
versed in the ways of the bedroom.
But she wasn't.
He lit another cigarette, the restlessness inside him growing.
When Carol woke, Felix was already gone.
There was breakfast on the table inside, but she felt the remnants of their night still within her. Felix hadn't bathed her, and he
wasn't there.
As a woman, she felt a wave of petulance rose within her; she felt abandoned.
She barely managed to dress herself in the clothes scattered on the floor and realized she was coming down with a cold. He hadn't
even covered her with a blanket; was it carelessness, or had he just not noticed?
Carol's vision swayed as she made excuses for him in her mind.
She didn’t touch the breakfast. Not seeing him around, she guessed he was avoiding her. After all, she was the one who had been
insistent on coming over last night, trying to test her chances with him.
She supposed Felix knew he had been trapped by the medication when he texted her that morning, asking her not to cover,
probably to protect her.
He wasn't the type to sleep with just any woman, but in his eyes, she must have seemed too easy.
He hadn't even beckoned her, and she had eagerly approached him.
Carol felt as if her heart had been pricked, her complexion pale, her steps unsteady due to the fever.
As she reached the ground floor, she saw Felix sitting quietly at the entrance of the building.
Bathed in sunlight, he sat there, lost in thought.
Tears welled up in Carol's eyes, quickly wiped away as she slowly approached him.
"Felix, what are you thinking about?"
She thought he had left, but there he was, waiting.
Felix looked up at her, serious, "I was afraid you wouldn't want to seewhen you woke up."
Her earlier upset instantly healed, a smile curved her lips, "Why would you think that?"
"Carol, I'm giving you a week to think about whether you really likeor not."
After saying that, he stood up and walked past her, ready to leave.
The blood that had just been boiling in Carol ran cold with his words.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmShe hadn't noticed she was being trapped by this man.
First, he was absent, making her overthink, then he appeared downstairs, offering her a brief sweetness, and finally, he delivered a
covert blow.
Her mood had been a rollercoaster with every word he said.
After being tossed around all night, he now wanted her to go back and think it over.
Think about what?
In his eyes, was she really that desperate?
Angered, she wanted to confront him, but seeing all the cigarette butts on the ground, she cup with excuses for him.
Perhaps he was panicked too, choosing to escape downstairs to sit.
Maybe he was also in turmoil, hence leaving the choice to her.
And he hadn't said he wouldn't take responsibility, had he?
With that thought, she felt much better.
