After the harrowing ordeal, Carol felt her nerves still jittery as she returned to her apartment.
She glanced down at her clothes, smeared with blood that was nearly dry, the metallic stench still lingering in her nostrils.
Quickly, she showered, then headed downstairs to the local grocery store to stock up on sfood.
Last time, Felix hadn't been keen on spaghetti, so she decided to skip that and make soup instead.
Following an online recipe step by step, she prepared a hearty bowl of chicken and vegetable soup.
Her first attempt was too watery, so with patience, she started over until she achieved the perfect consistency. Tasting it, she
accidentally scalded her finger on the hot edge of the pot.
But the pain seemed distant as she packed the porridge carefully and rushed back to the hospital.
The back and forth ate up three hours, and by the tshe finished, it was already 6.30 in the morning.
As Carol entered Felix's room with food, she was puzzled not to find him there.
Just as she was about to ask a nearby doctor, she saw Felix standing by the door.
"Where did you go? The doctor said you shouldn't be moving around yet."
The gash on his head from the rock was terrifying, and she still shuddered at the thought of it.
"I'm okay, just went to the restroom," he replied.
Carol set the insulated container down, her fingers adorned with several adhesive bandages.

Felix looked at the soup but didn't move.
"lI don't really feel like eating right now, Carol. I'm still worried about those guys," he confessed.
Carol cupped his face, considering whether to reveal her true identity, but his next words stopped her cold.
"I'm just glad you're not swealthy heiress. Otherwise, I'd worry we couldn't go on like this."
The confession she had been about to make lodged in her throat.
"Why? Wouldn't it be better if | were?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
Felix leaned against the bed, eyes closed. "Then I'd feel out of my depth. No future in it, so why delay the inevitable?"
Carol sensed a chill in his words and felt a tremor in her hand. She forced a smile, "I'm also glad I'm not. And don't worry about
those guys; I've already called my relative."
Stirring the soup, she encouraged again, "Felix, please eat a little."
Felix took her hand, a rare look of gentleness crossing his face.
"I really don't want to," he said, pulling her close for an embrace.
"All that matters is you're safe," he whispered.
Carol's heart melted. She was about to say something when her father's call cthrough—likely the assistant had leaked
information.
She couldn't take the call there, and she knew her father's anger would be severe.
"Felix, | need to sort something out. I'll cback to check on you at noon."
"Okay."
Their fingertips touched in a silent promise as she left.
Carol curved her mouth, tilted her head and kissed him on the lips, leaving immediately.
Once the door closed behind her, Felix's expression turned indifferent. He touched the bandage on his forehead, wincing slightly.
He picked up the container and headed upstairs.
Listina was awake, tears welling up at the sight of his bandaged head.
"Felix, what happened?"
"Just a little accident. Don't worry. Are you hungry?"
Listina had only spoken a few words before dozing off again, but now she was indeed hungry.
Opening the container, Felix saw a lopsided heart made from green veggies.
Listina blushed at the sight, a small smile playing on her lips.
Without a word, Felix stirred the soup and served her a bowl, blowing on each spoonful before offering it to her.
She hesitated, then frowned slightly.
"Is it not good?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"No, it's delicious. It's just that you usually add a bit of egg. This tit's only chicken and veggies."
Felix sighed, "If you don't like it, | can toss it and get you something else from a restaurant.”
"No need for the fuss, Felix. This is fine," Listina assured him.
Seeing her frail profile, Felix sighed internally. Her illness had already cost him a lot, forcing him to juggle multiple jobs.
Had it not been for her care, he would have joined a reputable company long ago. But he couldn't leave her alone, so he quit and
started doing odd jobs.
Listina felt touched, her eyes reddened with emotion.
"Felix, | don't want to keep treating my illness."
Lying in bed for so long, she couldn't fathom how much she had cost him.
