Felix took a deep breath and planted a soft kiss on her cheek.
"The lasagna's still in the oven. I'll finish up. You just chill and catch up on your show, and no scratching."
She felt a tingling sensation in her heart, "Okay."
He rose and returned to the kitchen, finalizing dinner for the two of them.
Later that evening, as they nestled into the couch watching a reality TV show, Carol was itching like crazy. She reached up to
scratch her neck, but Felix caught her hand and pressed it down.
She pouted playfully. When he released her hand, she pretended to scratch again. He pressed it down once more.
After five or six rounds of this cat-and-mouse game, even a fool would realize she was doing it on purpose. Felix didn't say a word;
a little teasing was harmless.
After the show, he helped her with her bath. Her face, neck, and back were covered in small, itchy bumps. The medication had
been taken, but its effects hadn't kicked in yet.
Carol wrapped her arms around his waist, playfully splashing water on him, and then tried to hug his neck but he dodged her.
"You've got the breath of a durian."
Her face flushed, and she immediately grabbed the toothbrush to freshen up, forgetting about her injured hand. The pain turned

Felix massaged his temples, lips pressed tightly together, and helped her squeeze out the toothpaste.
In bed, Carol resumed her act, scratching her neck once again. Felix caught her hand and this time, he didn't let go.
She finally relaxed and let out a gentle laugh. Felix wasn't asleep; he watched the shadows dance across the room and listened to
her laughter, a smile curling on his lips.
Carol felt warm inside, experiencing a feeling she hadn't known before. She was falling for Felix even more, and with each day they
spent together, her affection only grew. She knew that once Listina's operation was over, it was tto think about breaking the
news to Abner.
But she was sure Abner wouldn't approve, and Felix might not accept her true identity. She had to start laying the groundwork now.
She nuzzled into his chest, "Felix, back when you worked at the BlueSky Bar, did you ever see any of those high-society girls fall for
a guy from the wrong side of the tracks? And did they ever find happiness together?"
"Never. The one | knew got caught by her family, ended up with a broken arm, and was shipped off overseas. Never saw him
again."
Carol cursed inwardly and quickly shifted the conversation.
"Ah, just curious. It's not realistic, you know. But the story you told is rare. Most wealthy families have decent values."
Felix knew what she was getting at and hugged her a bit tighter.
"Let's get ssleep."
But Carol couldn't sleep; she was just beginning to probe, and she felt blocked at every turn.
"Felix, seriously, you're such a great guy. If | were a rich girl, I'd give up everything to be with you."
As she finished her sentence, she instinctively intertwined her fingers with his. This time, however, he pulled away and simply said,
"Sleep now."
Carol felt a pang of disappointment, thinking he didn't believe in such fairy tales because he had witnessed the harsh reality.
Days went by, and the doctor had indeed arrived.
Carol braced for Felix to question her about the money at the hospital, but he never did. He was silent the whole time.
Listina refused surgery, fearing the risks despite its potential for success. Carol, learning from past mistakes, kept her distance
from the hospital.
Felix becincreasingly busy, trying to calm Listina down, sometimes staying out all night. Carol's hand had healed, but the late
nights without him left her tossing and turning in bed.
Even though he still managed to prepare breakfast every morning, she worried about him, knowing he must be losing sleep over
Listina and squeeze tto cback to prepare food.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmShe was torn, contemplating revealing her identity to him. But even after Listina's successful surgery, she never found the right
moment. For an entire month, she barely saw him.
Inquiring with the doctor, she learned the operation went exceedingly well, and Listina would likely wake up within a week.
"Ms. Miller, | can confidently leave the follow-up care to the hospital staff. These two lovebirds are lucky."
Lovebirds? Carol thought there had been a misunderstanding and quickly clarified, "That's my boyfriend, and the patient is his
cousin. Thank you for everything, though."
The doctor seemed surprised, recalling how Felix had stayed by Listina's side when she was reluctant to accept the surgery,
comforting and occasionally kissing her.
