Leo was clearly struggling to wrap his head around this.

Olivia snickered with a mocking grin.

“Forgot already, did ya? You got hammered the night you came home, and we, well, had sex. If I’m

carrying a boy, your family’s in for a world of hurt.”

Leo did remember that night, and now he was in a real pickle. If he divorced Olivia, the chances of him

finding a wife again were slim to none, let alone someone willing to bear his children. He could very

well end up childless. Now that Olivia was knocked up, at least his parents would have

grandchild to comfort them.

Maja was fuming seeing the three of them humming and hawing.

“Are you really okay with her sticking around?”

Truth be told, Leo had already busted Olivia with a side piece. Who knew if the baby she was carrying

was even his.

Although Leo himself was no saint, with the house about to be bulldozed and 50 grand in his pocket,

Just then, Olivia started to lay into Maja, pointing her finger at her and cursing

“I don’t know why this good-for-nothing suddenly wants to divorce me, but it’s clear as day you’re

stirring the pot, you home-wrecker! Your own house is a mess and yet you stick your nose into ours.

Buzz off! We don’t want you here!”

Olivia picked up a glass of water and tossed it at Maja

Caught off guard, Maja got drenched. Neither Daly nor Susan dared to look at her, and Leo just kept

his mouth shut. But Maja didn’t lose her temper. She simply grabbed her bag and said calmly. “Sorry

for the intrusion.”

They were family after all, but after all she had done, she had not received a word of thanks. She felt

very aggrieved.

Susan knew they had gone too far and wanted to go after Maja, but Olivia’s threat stopped her. “If any

of you go after that hussy, I’m getting art. abortion tonight!”

That was enough to scare everyone into staying put

Maja walked out of the alley alone, her eyes swollen red, clutching her purse tightly. She was hard-

pressed to convey her sense of injustice. She felt as though she was a soulless being.

Maja bought a bouquet of flowers, didn’t go back to her hotel, but went straight to her mother’s grave.

The cemetery was a two-hour drive away Maja drove there alone, guided by the light of her phone,

carefully climbing the hill

Once she reached the grave, she seemed to find some solace. She bowed her head and placed the

flowers on the grave.

It was raining outside, and she felt cold. But maybe because she was already cold inside, she didn’t

notice it the whole way there.

Maja couldn’t remember how long her mother had been gone, but since Cristina married her father, she

was the only one who visited her

mother’s grave.

She rarely cried, but now her coat was soaked through, and her lips were trembling from the cold.

“Mom, I’m really confused. I don’t understand why I always mess things up. I feel like I’m always the

one left behind.”

“If you were still here, no one would say I’m a child without a mother’s love.”

Maja knelt before the grave, silently crying, and speaking her mind.

The last time she visited, Daly was with her and she couldn’t say much. This time, she was like a

vulnerable child, pouring her heart out to the one she missed

Maja stood up, wiped her cheeks, and said, “Mom, there’s a lot waiting for me back in Greenfield. I’ll

come back next time.”

She rearranged the flowers, wrapped her soaked coat around her, and started to descend the hill. But

once she got in her car, she realized it wouldn’t start, and she couldn’t get back

Maja curled up, found a comfortable position, and drifted off to sleep.

lan had brushed his teeth, put on loose pajamas, and was wrapping up the last of his paperwork.

Fannie kept knocking on the door.

ian frowned slightly, hearing her say, “lan, you seem a bit down tonight. Need me to keep you

company?”

lan put down his paperwork, walked over to the door, and swung it open

Fannie looped her arm through his, grinning, “Are you really feeling down?”
