Chapter 423
The fire in the room had been put out, and Maja was curled up in a corner, her bonds untied and the
gag removed from her mouth.
Just moments ago, a lick of flame threatened to engulf her, but she was yanked away just in time.
When the bag over her head was taken off, she saw the cleaner, who was supposed to be at the office.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, are you okay?”
The cleaner seemed genuinely concerned, her face full of worry.
Maja thought the woman seemed familiar, but before she could think further, Neil’s voice rang out, and
the woman bolted away in terror.
Neil saw Maja huddled in the corner. She was unharmed, but her clothes were dirty and her hair was
filled with dust.
The acrid smell of burnt wood filled the room.
Neil tasted blood in his mouth and quickly began barking orders to the people around him.
“Help her up.”
Two bodyguards were about to step forward, but Maja had already gotten up on her own.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe could tell that Neil was on his last legs.
“Dad.”
Before she could even finish her sentence, Neil coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed.
He should’ve fallen when lan said those words, but he wasn’t sure if Maja was safe.
Now that Maja was safe, Neil couldn’t hold on any longer. I
“Dad!”
Fear flashed through Maja’s eyes as she rushed to his side.
Neil’s eyes were filled with confusion as he tightly gripped her hand.
“Divorce, don’t suffer.” he trembled.
Maja’s face was still smeared with dust as she quickly turned to the bodyguards.
“Quick! Get him to the hospital!”
The bodyguards immediately came over and helped Neil into the car.
But Neil’s hand was still tightly holding onto Maja’s, not letting go.
Tears welled up in Maja’s eyes as she followed them into the car.
At the hospital, the doctors rushed Neil into the resuscitation room.
Maja’s hand was still held tightly by him, leaving red marks.
After the resuscitation was over, she quickly asked the doctor.
“How is he?”
The doctor removed his face mask.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, Mr. Pennyfeather probably only has three months left to live.”
From six months, it was now down to three.
Maja was speechless, her lips tightly closed as she sat powerlessly by the side.
Neil had already been put on a ventilator.
The doctor was tidying up the medicine in the room and added, “We advised Mr. Pennyfeather not to
leave the hospital before, but he insisted. Now his condition has indeed worsened. He needs to watch
his mood; his illness will keep him in pain, and he won’t be able to sleep.”
After the doctor left, Maja saw the obvious marks on her hand.
She was silent for a long time, looking at the dark night outside and murmuring, Dad, don’t worry, I’ll
divorce lan.”
Neil’s hand finally loosened slowly, as if, even in his unconscious state, he couldn’t accept lan.
Maja didn’t say anything and let the Pennyfeather family’s nurse come in to take care of him.
“What did Mr. Raymond say to my dad?” she asked the bodyguard next to her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe bodyguard hesitated a little.
Maja laughed lightly, saying, “It’s okay; just tell me.”
“Mr. Raymond said he’s wanted a divorce for a long time. If the Pennyfeather family had any guts, they
would’ve made their stance clear to Holden Raymond by now. He also said he knows your character
better than Mr. Pennyfeather.”
Maja understood why Neil was so determined about the divorce when she heard this.
The bodyguard stood by and said, “Mr. Pennyfeather still wants to go home when he wakes up. He
says he doesn’t like the smell of the hospital’s disinfectant, and he knows he doesn’t have much time
left.”
Mája felt a heavy pressure on her chest.
Actually, when lan rushed into the fire and shielded Carlene in his arms, she did feel a moment of
surprise from afar. Because he used to appear just like a hero to save her.
But Maja quickly regained her composure.
She understood that as long as she didn’t like him, she wouldn’t get hurt.
Carlene was lan’s true love, the one he always thought about. It was only natural that he would save
Carlene.
But no matter what, he shouldn’t have said those words in front of seriously ill Neil.
