Chapter 473
Carlene stormed out of the Raymond, Corporation building, so pissed that her chest was heaving with rage.
Was lan into someone else now?
But ever since he got back, there was no new woman around him except Penny.
But he must have seen it last night. Penny was such a tart, even making moves on Samuel in public. God knew what
she’s like behind closed doors. This was definitely not lan’s cup of tea.
A flash of jealousy crossed Carlene’s eyes. Penny or not, she wouldn’t let her off the hook!
Just wait till she dealt with that Maja chick tonight.
She took a deep breath and glanced at the time; it was almost nine.
She quickly headed to the Raymond Mansion; after all, Edith and Selena were waiting there, and they all wanted to
see Maja grovel in apology.
Feeling a bit better about the thought, Carlene arrived at the mansion to find Edith and Selena already waiting.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtPastries lay before them. It looked like they both believed Maja would come to apologize tonight.
Edith, just out of the hospital, was still a bit pale but managed to crack a smile when she heard Carlene had
successfully taken over the Pennyfeather family’s company.
“Good job, Carlene,” she said, patting Carlene’s hand.
A smug glint flashed in Carlene’s eyes. Edith’s favorite was still her, no matter what lan thought.
She glanced at Selena, who was a lot friendlier now, giving her a nod as if to acknowledge her capability.
But Carlene félt the need to dig a little deeper.
“Edith, what do you think would happen if Grandpa Holden knew about this?”
Edith scoffed, sipping her coffee.
“You don’t know lan. If he doesn’t like someone, he wouldn’t pay any attention to them, nor would he let them get
the better of him. Holden forced him into a marriage, and now he’s pushing him to get along with Maja. Ian’s been
sick of it. The more Holden wants them together, the more lan despises Maja. So he wouldn’t let Holden know
about this, knowing it would cause trouble.”
Carlene smirked. “Edith, as long as I have you backing me up, I’ve got nothing to fear.”
Selena even reminded her, “Don’t forget to capture Maja’s disgraceful moment and share it with everyone.”
That way, Maja would be finished in Greenfield circles.
Carlene agreed with a laugh, but before they could enjoy their victory, a contract was delivered.
Carlene frowned. What was this?
She expected Maja herself to come to Raymond Mansion!
The contract was delivered by Samuel’s people.
“Ms. Shepard, this is the contract we signed with Elite Edge Consortium, which will expire next week! If we can’t
provide enough paint on time, the company will face a 2 billion–dollar penalty. Even if we liquidated the company
now, we’d still be short by a billion.”
Carlene was fuming.
“When did this happen?”
“Ms. Shepard, there’s no point in dwelling on that now. The issue is that we need to come up with that money. If we

Carlene was seething with rage. Why was Samuel helping Maja?
She took a deep breath, told herself to stay calm, and called Samuel.
Relaxing in his villa, Samuel found Maja’s move amusing and anticipated Carlene’s call.
“Ms. Shepard.
“Mr. Brown, I don’t understand why you’re helping Maja.”
Raising an eyebrow, Samuel replied, “Ms. Shepard, I don’t care who the CEO of the Pennyfeather family is. They
signed this agreement with me, so whoever’s in charge now must bear the responsibility. I’ve had my eye on
Pennyfeather’s company for a while. You might have heard that I recently bought out the Silver Carnes company.
I’ve got quite an appetite now.”
He swirled his wine glass, suddenly feeling that, compared to Maja, Carlene fell short in many ways, in character
and ability.
Carlene had been chasing Herbert for so long, but he never took her as an apprentice. Whereas Maja, Herbert’s
disciple, never bragged about it.
It showed she didn’t think it was something to boast about.
If Carlene were in her shoes, she’d definitely blow her own trumpet.
