Chapter 522
With her right hand injured, she was left to use her left hand Nathan had been peeling the shrimp for her, placing
them directly into her bowl, where she’d eat them with a

lan took a seat just as Carlene arrived. Her face fell instantly upon seeing Maja. She had a hunch that lan had
chosen this restaurant specifically because Maja was here. Otherwise, given his spending habits, he would never be
caught dead in such a place!
Despite her displeasure, Carlene couldn’t voice her objections. She could only sit across from lan.
At that moment, the waiter came over with menus.
“What would you like to eat?” the waiter asked.
Glancing at Maja’s table, which was only about two meters away, lan said, “The same as them.”
Upon hearing lan’s decision, Carlene could no longer keep her dissatisfaction to herself. “lan, I’d like to try
something else,” she said, forcing a smile.
Hearing Carlene’s voice, Maja turned her head and finally noticed them. Her eyebrows furrowed.

lan, holding the menu, noticed Maja looking their way. He stiffened slightly but didn’t turn to look at her, playing it
off as a coincidence.
Carlene thought lan hadn’t heard her, so she repeated, “Let’s get something else, I don’t want that combo.”
But lan just put down the menu, seemingly entranced by Maja’s table.
He seemed aloof, as if he didn’t hear what Carlene was saying.
A minute later, the waiter came back with an apologetic look.
“I’m sorry, but due to a staff error, this table is actually reserved. The guests will be arriving shortly, and we don’t
have any other tables available at the moment. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience. We’d like to offer you a
voucher for your next visit, if that’s okay.”
The restaurant wasn’t fancy, but it was quite popular.
Upon hearing this, Carlene’s face darkened further. Already pissed, she finally had an opportunity to vent her
frustrations.
“What do you mean? Do you think we’re short on cash? This crappy restaurant is the last place I’d want to eat.”
Carlene was seething. The night had been one disappointment after another, with a little designer overshadowing
her at every turn, and now they were being asked to leave.
The waiter apologized again before suggesting, “If you don’t mind, you could share a table with another group.”
Carlene obviously minded. She didn’t want to squeeze in with strangers.
But then lan spoke up.
“We don’t mind. We’ll just join the table next door. Just add two more chairs.”
The waiter nodded and said, “I’ll go and ask them.”
“No need; we’re friends.”
After saying this, lan picked up his chair and sat down next to Maja.
Maja’s face turned sour instantly, and the shrimp in her bowl suddenly seemed less appetizing.
What the hell was lan doing?
Now, Carlene was left sitting alone at the reserved table:
If she caused a scene in front of lan now, it would only make things more awkward.

Carlene took a deep breath, suppressing her anger, and moved her chair next to Nathan’s.
The table was rectangular, enough for four people, but it felt less comfortable than when just two people were

Originally, Maja and Nathan were sitting across from each other; now there was an extra person on each side.
Maja felt uneasy and called the waiter over.
“Excuse me, we don’t want to share our table with them.”
“But he said they’re your friends. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. The food will be out soon; could we perhaps
discuss it then?”
The waiter looked stressed, obviously flustered by the unexpected situation.
lan looked at Maja; seeing her visibly upset gave him a perverse sense of satisfaction.
Maja had nothing to say. This was lan’s mess; she didn’t need to give the waiter a hard time.
She didn’t say anything else, and she ignored lan and Carlene.
lan felt even better, but then came across a problem. He had no idea how to use the disposable utensils in front of
him.
“Penny.”
He called Maja, motioning for her to teach him.
