Chapter 712
On Christmas Eve, Maja found out that lan was coming home, so she rushed to the mall to buy a Christmas wreath,
ready to go back to Greenfield Gardens.
lan hadn’t contacted her the whole week, and she was busy with her company’s recruitment stuff.
With the graduation season coming up, a bunch of fresh grads were about to join the workforce, so she had to get
the HR department ready to hire newbies. Besides, she had already paid a year’s rent and now she had to start
thinking about some basic renovations.
She had been swamped all week, almost forgetting about the upcoming Christmas.
It wasn’t until Jeff called to tell her that lan was coming home tonight that she rushed to the mall to buy a Christmas
wreath.
Just after she got home and finished decorating with the Christmas wreath, the sound of a car engine came from
outside the yard.
Maja sat on the couch, looking at the meal prepared by the housemaid, then shut down her laptop.
lan got out of the car, looked around, and found that Greenfield Gardens was the same as always.
On his way home, he saw Christmas trees in every yard. He imagined that there should have been a few here too,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtdecorated with Christmas lights. He had been abroad for years, so he never had a real Christmas.
To be exact, he had never had one before.
When he heard the news of Eric’s accident, it was just before Christmas, so every time when Christmas came
around, Edith and Selena would cry their eyes out, making the whole family lose the festive mood.
And when his brother was still around, everyone’s attention was on him. Ian was in the military then and celebrating
there just meant everyone having a big meal together, without having to catch bandits at the border.
He didn’t have any special feelings about Christmas but seeing other people’s festive mood on his way home, he
found Greenfield Gardens to be chillingly quiet.
He was particularly upset at the moment as if a fire was about to ignite from the bottom of his heart.
He entered the door code, pushed the door open, and saw Maja just about to come out.
She was wearing a cotton house dress, and a smile appeared on her face at the sight of lan.
“Mr. Raymond, you’re back.”
lan glanced at the dinner on the table. She hadn’t touched it. Was she waiting for him to come back and eat
together?
He was supposed to be home an hour earlier, but the doctor had given his wound full treatment, which was the
cause of his delay.
Maja immediately took his coat.
lan’s gaze swept around the room. Except for the Christmas wreath at the door, nothing had changed from when
he left.
He only felt she was perfunctory.
But today was Christmas Eve, and he didn’t want to ruin the day by arguing with her.
Maja also felt a bit guilty, hanging his coat on the coat rack.
lan was exceptionally sensitive. If someone was this careless about their partner on such an occasion, it clearly
meant that they didn’t like them enough to even try. So, he didn’t need to seek any answers now.
The two of them ate in silence.
After dinner, Maja wanted to say something to him, but seeing him take his folder upstairs, she figured he must
have a meeting in his study.
She took her laptop to the bedroom, chatted with Meetman for a bit, then took a bath.
Lying in bed, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
At half–past eleven, she felt someone push open the door of the room and immediately she closed her eyes.
She heard lan’s footsteps moving around the room, then the sound of water in the bathroom.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter an uncertain amount of time, the sound of water stopped, and the bathroom door was opened.
lan didn’t choose to blow–dry his hair here, but went to the guest room, only coming back after his hair was dry.
Maja lay on the other side of the bed, then felt someone sit down beside her.
She couldn’t help wanting to open her eyes, and just as she was about to do so, she felt a light tap in the cheek.
She opened her eyes, looking straight into his.
lan was wearing a silky nightgown, just casually tied in a knot.
“Penny, ten seconds left.”
Maja didn’t respond right away, and it was only after the ten seconds passed that he grabbed her hand, placed it
against his lips, and gently bit down wishing her, “Merry Christmas, let’s go buy Christmas decorations in the
morning. Let bygones be bygones, I won’t hold grudges anymore.”
His voice was deep, then he lifted the blanket and crawled in.
“I want to spend Christmas with you.”
He was never good at sweet talk.
The words in bed always carried a kind of hidden implication to them.
Maja had initially felt guilty about the decorations but seeing him willing to let them go and wanting a fresh start,
she propped herself up without hesitation and kissed his throat.
lan only felt a tingle all over his body, all the unpleasantness was instantly washed away.
The night was as usual, he held her waist, making wild love.
