Chapter 315 "Hello?" "Ms. Lloyd, this is the police. I'm in your hospital room. Where are you?" The voice on the other end was deep, with a hint of impatience.

Sylvia glanced at the clock. It was late, and she couldn't blthe officer for being annoyed-he'd cout on a call and couldn't even find her.

"Sorry, I'll be right there." "Hurry up." She hung up, and in that moment shoved her coat into Rupert's arms.

"Uncle Rupert, I have to go." She didn't dare meet his eyes. She just turned and bolted.

Rupert watched her disappear. His phone buzzed in his pocket; after a glance at the screen, his expression turned even colder.

He left the stairwell, too.

Hospital room.

Sylvia pushed open the door, expecting to find just a waiting police officer.

But not only was the officer there, there was Fanny, propped up in a wheelchair, arms and legs bundled in casts and bandages.

Fanny looked like she'd been through a meat grinder, but her cheeks were flush and her eyes glittered with a smug kind of triumph.

Sylvia froze.

Before she could ask what happened, the door behind her swung open again. Tristan entered, stiff-backed and stern, followed by Rupert and Bridget.

Bridget, spotting Fanny in the wheelchair, rushed forward and dropped to her knees in front of her, all trembling sincerity.

"Fanny! Oh my God, what happened? How did this happen to you?" Fanny, who just a moment ago had looked so pleased with herself, began to sob the instant Rupert and Tristan entered. "It-it was Sylvia," she whimpered. "She did this to me!" Bridget's tears fell in twin streams down her cheeks. She stared at Sylvia like she was skind of monster. "Sylvia, you've always been a handful, but how could you do something like this to Fanny? Do you even know who she is?" She stood up and moved to Tristan's side, dropping her proud head in a rare show of humility. "Tristan, Fanny's my best friend. Please, you've got to get justice for her if you don't... how am I supposed to face her father?" As her words hung in the air, Tristan's face grew hard as stone, anger coloring his features a frosty blue. "You're out of line! Why are you still standing there? Apologize right now!" The room felt like it was closing in, the air thick and heavy.

Sylvia's chest ached. In this big hospital room, there wasn't even space for her to get a word in.

Bailey and Rupert stood off to the side, faces blank, as if none of this concerned them at all.

Sylvia let out a bitter laugh. "Why should I apologize? Don't forget-I'm the one who called the police." Right then, the lead officer stepped forward and spread a document out in front of Sylvia.

It was a case withdrawal form.

She stared. "What's this supposed to mean? I never said I wanted to drop the case."

The officer flipped a page, annoyed, jabbing at a line with his finger. "Ms. Lloyd, we've already spoken to MS! Lance. She says she was just having En a bit too much to drink, joking around with you, and you pushed her into the pool as a prank. Here's her medical report."

"We checked the security cameras around the old pool house. Nothing suspicious. But Ms. XLance has Witnesses Backing up her story: you had skind of mental break and pushed her in." "Here's your psych evaluation from the hospital-witnesses and documents, all right here." "But Ms. Lance doesn't want to press charges, so dropping this is in your best interest." With that, the officer shoved a pen into Sylvia's hand before she could protest.

It didn't seem to matter what she said or did she was being forced to drop it.

Tristan stood with his hands behind his back, snorting in disgust. "How disgraceful!"

Sylvia's hand shook as she gripped the pen. Everyone in the roo e in the room looked like wolves, baring their teeth, ready to tear her apart.
