Chapter 123 My Girlfriend
Zhang Baiyan did not look surprised at all. He just quietly watched as Mu Xiaomu walked towards them
from afar and went straight into Mu Zhi’s arms, and then asked her.
“She calls you mom. Could she be… Our child?”
Zhang Baiyan hesitated before he spoke. And when he managed to get the words out, they were filled
with doubt.
Mu Zhi looked and removed Mu Xiaomu from her embrace. She slowly walked to the TV cabinet, took
out the snacks hidden there and handed them to Xiaomu. While she did have something important to
tell him, it came second to making sure Mu Xiaomu was fed.
“Xiaomu, take your snacks and go back to your room.”
Mu Zhi glanced at Zhang Baiyan before she gave the order.
Mu Xiaomu was as obedient as always, she gave Zhang Baiyan a quick glance before quickly returning
to her bedroom with snacks in hand.
Finally, Mu Zhi could take a breath and readied herself for the conversation that was about to take
place.
“Mr. Zhang, I won’t be able to confirm if you are the man just by your surname alone.”
“Then how do you think we should do this?”
Zhang Baiyan raised his eyebrows at her, his expression somehow doubtful yet confident.
“Then let’s exchange some more information to get to know each other a bit more.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMu Zhi’s heart was pounding as she said this. Understandably so as she was no lawyer, nor was she a
negotiator. She did not know the first place to start this conversation. And with Zhang Baiyan here in
front of her, she did not know what to say.
One of the main reasons was because it was obvious that Zhang Baiyan was trying to pressure her. He
was calmer than her and from a well-to-do family. This made her unpredictable.
The other reason was a more pragmatic one. She could not remember a single thing that happened
that night. She would not be able to tell who that man was even if he stood before her.
“Sure.”
He quickly agreed. His eyes fixed upon Mu Zhi. They were sincere yet filled with gentleness.
However, it only served to suffocate her.
Just when Mu Zhi was at a loss as to what to do, the doorbell rang.
Who could it be at the time of the night?
Mu Zhi stood and opened the door cautiously only to find Lu Junnian standing in her doorway. He
looked at Mu Zhi sternly. Without even saying hello or welcomed in, he pushed passed Mu Zhi and
entered the room.
His wary gaze settled on Zhang Baiyan.
“Why are you here this late?”
Mu Zhi was suspicious of his sudden appearance.
But Lu Junnian coldly reproached her, “If I hadn’t come, you would have been taken in by him.”
He reprimanded her but… He was full of tenderness.
Mu Zhi watched Lu Junnian warily as he quickly made his way to the couch, sat down next to Zhang
Baiyan, and introduced himself unsmilingly.
“I am Lu Junnian.”
Lu Junnian rarely acted this way. This was the first time Mu Zhi realized that Lu Junnian could be this
cold.
It turns out that Lu Jinye was not the only who could emit such an impregnable aura. Lu Junnian could
as well!
Zhang Baiyan subconsciously adjusted the frames of his glasses before he smiled and asked Lu
Junnian, “Mr. Lu, what can I do for you?”
“Unfortunately for you, I was on the phone with my girlfriend when you arrived. She forgot to hang up,
so I heard everything.”
“If you want to exchange information, I can do that for my girlfriend.”
Mu Zhi’s ears turned hot when she heard Lu Junnian casually refer to her as his girlfriend.
However, she knew Lu Junnian well. Obviously, Lu Junnian was far more reliable than a one-night
stand in this situation.
“Your girlfriend?”
Zhang Baiyan was surprised to hear Lu Junnian call Mu Zhi his girlfriend.
“Yes. She was and is still my girlfriend. If you’re here just to make amends for an accidental encounter
that happened years ago, there’s no need. Please leave.”
Mu Zhi thought that Lu Junnian was here to test him on her behalf.
But instead, Lu Junnian was chasing him away?
Mu Zhi looked at Lu Junnian in surprise.
Zhang Baiyan could no longer take this sitting down. He stood and looked at Lu Junnian in all
seriousness, saying, “I have no need to leave if she’s your girlfriend and not your wife. Also, it wasn’t
an accidental encounter but an exchanging of spirit and flesh!”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAn exchanging of spirit and flesh! The words he used and the strange way he emphasized it was
provocative to anyone listening.
Mu Zhi felt uncomfortable as she listened to the way he described that night.
Lu Junnian turned and set his murderous glare upon Mu Zhi.
But when he spoke to her, it was with his usual warmth.
He handed Mu Zhi his car keys and said, “I heard over the phone that Xiaomu was hungry and you
gave her snacks. It’s not good for children to have too many junk food. I bought some buns and some
pumpkin congee from a nearby congee place on my way here. They sold it as a kid’s set meal which is
why the custard buns are shaped in little animals. I was in a hurry and left them in the car. Could you
go and fetch them for me?”
Mu Zhi was surprised by how considerate Lu Junnian was.
Mu Xiaomu had been frightened by the strange man in her home and kept to her room. However, she
did not eat the snacks that Mu Zhi had given her, instead she lay down quietly behind the door and
carefully listened to the conversation outside.
But she could no longer lay still when she heard of the animal shaped buns. She rushed out and said
impatiently, “Mama, I want some.”
Mu Zhi glanced once more at Lu Junnian. Even though his murderous aura did not let up, he made
sure that Xiaomu had something to eat.
She hesitated, but she followed Mu Xiaomu to fetch the food, nonetheless.
How could Lu Junnian have forgotten the food? He had always been attentive.
It was only an excuse to get Mu Zhi to leave.
The moment Mu Zhi closed the door, Lu Junnian’s expression reverted to its earlier coldness. He
looked at Zhang Baiyan.
“Mr. Zhang, Your introduction tells me that you’re from an affluent family. Why then are you stealing
someone else’s woman?”
