Falling for the Contract Bride

He stood up abruptly and in a flash, his hand was around Zhang Baiyan’s neck. Lu Junnian squeezed,

cutting off Zhang Baiyan’s air supply.

He released him after a while.

“You still have time to leave!” Lu Junnian threatened.

Zhang Baiyan was heaving after Lu Junnian had finally let go of him.

Panic flashed across his eyes.

However, as quickly as it came, it went. He then stood up straight and looked at Lu Junnian seriously.

“You are beyond reason!”

“You’re feeling guilty.”

Lu Junnian glared at him, his disdain even more apparent.

“It’s late. You should hurry home, Mr. Zhang. We won’t be sending you off.”

It was an order and left no room for argument. Zhang Baiyan stood up angrily. He pointed at Lu

Junnian shakingly and said, “You! You’re completely unreasonable!”

However, despite saying that, in the end he still left and closed the door behind him.

Lu Junnian watched as Zhang Baiyan left. He felt a sense of release when Zhang Baiyan was finally

out of sight. He sat down and noticed the Legos nearby. The corner of his mouth tilted upwards.

He didn’t know why but he felt a sense of satisfaction every time he helped Mu Zhi with something.

What a strange feeling.

When he was rushing here, he had heard Mu Xiaomu call Mu Zhi mom. He could then conclude that

Mu Zhi had a child.

He was stunned… The first time he had returned for Mu Zhi, she was like a book with its pages ripped

out and he had to search for the missing pages to find out what happened in the end. But it was like

every page he found contained a plot twist.

Mu Zhi marrying Lu Jinye was a plot twist.

Mu Zhi having a one-night stand was a plot twist!

And now… Mu Zhi was actually a mother.

On his way here, Lu Junnian had struggled with finding out that Mu Zhi had a child. He was surprised

with himself as he thought that he was strong enough to accept all of her.

But… He still found it hard to accept that she had a child.

Which was why he brought them food. It was not an act of consideration but a necessary one to deal

with this man.

A necessary move to provide support for Mu Zhi.

But when Mu Zhi opened the door for him and he could see the barely concealed distraught in her

eyes, his only thought was to protect her!

When he saw Mu Zhi holding Mu Xiaomu’s hand, his love for Mu Zhi extended to Xiaomu and

somehow he found that he could accept her!

Lu Junnian sat on the couch, tapping his fingers on the coffee table as he waited for Mu Zhi to return.

He heard the sound of the code being inserted. Soon followed by the sounds of Mu Zhi and Xiaomu

entering the house.

Mu Zhi entered to see Lu Junnian turning to look at her. It was almost a subconscious move, but she

handed the food to Mu Xiaomu and said softly, “Xiaomu, go eat this in your room. Mommy has

something to discuss with this man.”

“Okay.”

Mu Xiaomu had her mouth full of a custard bun. She was still chewing when she spoke, and her voice

was muffled. She then quietly brought her food and made her way to the bedroom.

Mu Zhi followed Mu Xiaomu into the room and tidied up a bit before leaving Mu Xiaomu in her room.

“You must have a lot of questions.”

Mu Zhi let out a heavy sigh.

Even though she may not know if Zhang Baiyan was truly Xiaomu’s father, but too much had happened

today, and she was filled to the brim.

However, for some reason, she felt a sense of peace, which was rare for her.

She sat opposite Lu Junnian and poured herself a mug of black coffee. She even poured Lu Junnian

one before she calmly faced him.

Lu Junnian watched her unhurried movements. He smiled, though slightly curious.

“How come you’re so calm and happy?”

“A few years ago, I slept with a man only to find myself with child. I thought that the man I had slept

with was you and that I was pregnant with your child. I was ecstatic to have this child.”

Mu Zhi was smiling gently as she recalled what happened.

She was so happy then.

“I had thought that your mother would accept me because of this child. And we could finally marry.”

“But you were gone. You left. And your mother told me that this child could not possibly be yours as

you had stayed in the laboratory all day. My world collapsed.”

“I didn’t know if I should keep the child or get rid of it.”

At this part of the story, Mu Zhi’s face twisted in pain and helplessness.

She had never told this to anyone before.

Even though Jian Xiaoning was the only witness to these, Mu Zhi had never told her how she felt

during that time.

Because she did not want her emotions to affect anyone else.

She had even thought about burying all that pain and embarrassment, and taking them to the grave

with her.

But… She never thought that there would be a day when she would spill all this to someone. And that

person would be Lu Junnian.

“This child was such bad timing. You know about my mother and her expensive medical bills. I was

also blacklisted from the community. I didn’t have the confidence to be able to keep this child alive even

if I were to keep her.”

At this point, she couldn’t keep her tears from falling.

Lu Junnian slowly approached her and stretched out his hand to gently wipe away her tears.

His chest felt tight as he watched her cry.

He reached out and brought her into his arms.
