Chapter 1264
Emily plopped down at her desk, shook off her mood, and returned to the day’s work.
All morning, Charlie James only handed out tasks to Tracy, even stuff that was usually Emily’s turf.
The business proposal Emily had spent ages preparing for Frank? That went to Tracy too.
Around noon, Tracy came out of the boss’s office, buzzing with excitement. She sauntered over to Emily and
announced, “I’ve got a negotiation meeting with Mr. James over lunch, Might be back a bit late. Have all the
documents prepped, will you?”
There was a smug glint in Tracy’s eyes as if she was making it clear to Emily that she still valued the most
She dumped all the other trivial tasks on Emily and focused on prepping for the meeting with Frank

Before twelve, Tracy dressed up beautifully and left with Charlie
By the time Emily finished her tasks, it was almost one. She headed to the staff cafeteria on the twelfth floor for a
bite and then back to her desk to work.
Tracy didn’t come back until almost three b’clock in the afternoon. She handed over some work to Angie from the
finance department, and then they both chatted on the sofa.
Angie gushed. “Mr. James is treating you like a queen these days. He only took you to such an important meeting
with Frank.”
Tracy responded with a smile, T’ve been at Mr. James’s side for years. reckon that’s worth something?”
She shot Emily a look and added, “Some people think they can get favour with Mr. James by cooking him a few
meals and playing nice. It’s laughablet Mr. James has seen his fair share of women. He’s not going to fall for such
cheap tricks.”
Upon hearing this, Angie giggled, “Of course, Mr. James values work competence more!”
After half an hour of chitchat, Angie left, and Tracy returned to her desk. As she passed Emily’s desk, she said
coolly, “From now on, let me handle Mr. James. You just do your job and keep out of Mr James’s office.”
Emily kept her cool, T’ll do what I need to do. You don’t need to remind me
Tracy scoffed, “As long as you get it:
She paused, then turned back to add, “I don’t mean you any harm. You’ve been quite impressive since you joined.
I’m keeping you away from Mr. James for your sake. Don’t mistake his kindness for liking you. Many young and
pretty assistants have made that mistake before, and they all got canned!”

She continued, her voice icy. Tm not fighting you because I like Mr. James. I’m not that stupid, and I hope you’re
not. Even if Mr. James is a lady’s man, hed only fancy someone like Waters, who’s beautiful and from a good family.
As for you, just do your job, keep your head down, and you might actually stay here longer
Emily kept her poker face, “Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Satisfied with Emily’s compliance, Tracy strutted back to her workspace in her high heels.
Emily, gripping her pen, took a deep breath and got back to work.
For the next couple of days, Charlie didn’t ask Emily to do anything for him. Whether it was meetings, parties, or
negotiations, Tracy was his plus one.
Charlie didn’t even exchange words with her
At lunchtime, they didn’t eat together. Emily didn’t have to cook anymore. She ate at the staff cafeteria every day
and then got back to her desk. Work seemed simpler.
On her way home in the evening. Emily sat on the bus, watching the bustling passersby, her mind drifting back to
that night when Charlie held her tightly in his arms, kissing her passionately, and the way he looked at her in the
dark before he left.
