Chapter 141
Seeing the new bed and desk, Emily immediately asked, “Did you just buy these?”
“No!” Estelle quickly replied, fearing she would spend more money, “They were already here, probably
bought by the landlord but never used.”
Emily breathed a sigh of relief, sat on the bed, and said, “I’d rather stay in a hotel than have you spend
more money on me.”
Looking around, she asked, “Didn’t you say you only rented one room? Will the landlord give you a
hard time if I stay here?”
“No, I already talked to the landlord, and he said it’s fine!”
“Great!”
Emily stood up, smiling, “I’ll treat you to dinner tonight.”
And she quickly added, “No more refusals!”
Estelle raised her eyebrows, “Fine, it’s on you!”
They found a clean restaurant to eat at. During dinner, Emily found out that Estelle cooked for herself,
and she cheerfully told her, “I’ll cook for you for the next few days. I’m not bad in the kitchen!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEstelle knew Emily was great at making desserts, but now she learned she could cook too, so she
laughed, “Thank heavens! We don’t have to eat something yucky together anymore.”
Emily was surprised for a moment, but then she burst into laughter.
For the next few days, the two lived together, making their lives a bit more lively and helping Estelle
shake off her gloom.
Emily made sure to leave early and return late each day, so as not to disrupt Estelle’s daytime work. In
the evenings, Estelle would go to the supermarket, purchase ingredients, and patiently wait for Emily to
come home so they could cook together.
Emily brought a dessert for Estelle every time she returned, who would eat it while watching movies,
waiting for Emily to make dinner.
Occasionally, she would help Emily with prepping and washing the veggies, but Emily thought she was
too slow and would push her
away.
Luckily, their meals consisted of quick and easy recipes, allowing Emily to prepare them in no time at
all.
Estelle thought Emily was being modest; her cooking skills weren’t just good, they were exceptional,
not worse than any hotel chef.
Emily explained that her father used to be a chef, working his way up to head chef at a five–star hotel.
Her mother married him because of his culinary skills.
Sadly, her father later became a drug addict, which caused him to lose everything and become a
completely different person.
Estelle’s expression turned concerned as she asked, “Do you want me to assist you in finding your
father? I know some people who might be able to help.”
Emily shook her head, a somber look on her face. “He won’t change. If he were to return, it would only
bring more harm to our family. My mother is better off without him.”
Speaking in a low, heavy voice, she added, “As long as he’s alive, that’s sufficient.”
Hearing Emily’s mix of love and hate, Estelle’s heart clenched, not knowing how to comfort her.
Emily quickly lifted her head, tears in her eyes but still smiling optimistically, “Let’s not talk about him
anymore. I’ll go wash the dishes.”
Estelle stood up with a light smile and suggested, “Let’s do it together!”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmOn Saturday, Estelle went to the Lamont family’s house. In Henson’s room, he was playing with Legos.
Seeing her, he quickly stood up and went to his desk to start the lesson.
Estelle took out a set of papers from her bag and asked, “I bought these for you. Do you like them?”
Henson responded sarcastically, “Oh, you’re making it sound like you’re giving me a birthday present!”
Estelle turned her head, a hint of curiosity in her voice, “Is it your birthday?”
“No, I’m just saying your tone is that of giving me a gift. Do you think I would like it?” Henson pouted.
Estelle spread the papers out, smiling, “You’re in the review stage of your studies now I found this set
of papers focuses on specific topics, so we can find anything you might have missed or need to
improve on!”
Henson responded with a lack of enthusiasm, saying, “What will you be doing while I work on these?
Your role as a tutor is fading away, so be cautious that my uncle may decide to let you go”
that
Estelle paused, handing out the papers, and glared at Henson, “You better appreciate this while it lasts.
I’ll only be coming a couple more times, and after that, you won’t see me again even if you want to!”
Henson looked startled and quickly turned to her, “What do you mean? Are you resigning?”
