Chapter 1611
Norah’s heart was a mix of emotions, and whenever she thought of him, she couldn’t help but let a small smile
grace her lips. She unlocked her phone, eager to see his response.
However, Xavier didn’t respond.
A wave of disappointment washed over Norah.
She clutched her phone, wondering if he had stepped away for a smoke, or got caught up in a poker with Zachary
and the gang, hence, missing her message.
She put her phone down, and after a minute, couldn’t resist picking it back up. He still hadn’t respond.
Feeling a bit annoyed, Norah decided to keep her phone away from her, convincing herself not to wait.
She went to get a glass of water, downed half of it, and rushed back to check her phone, only to find no response.
With a heavy heart and a sense of loss, Norah was about to put her phone down when it vibrated with an incoming
call from Xavier.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIn an instant, her heart raced with excitement. Her disappointment and sadness faded, replaced by excitement and
joy. Her hand holding her phone trembled slightly.
She walked to the balcony, unlocked her phone, and pretended to sound composed, “Hello?”
Xavier’s voice was as indifferent as ever, “Are you out drinking?”
Norah tried to hide her grin, “Yeah, just catching up with some classmates.”
“When will you be done? Is anyone coming to pick you up?” Xavier asked.
“I’m not sure when it’ll be over. My parents are out, and Jonathan isn’t home either. I’ll just take a cab home, Norah
replied, barely holding back her laughter.
There was a pause on the other end. Norah could hear Xavier shuffling around, and then he said, “I’ll come pick
you up. Send me your location.”
A wave of indescribable joy swept over Norah. She bit her lip to contain her smile and remained silent.
Xavier hesitated, “Norah?”-
“I was just messing with you!” Norah burst into laughter, the sound growing louder, “Don’t you have Jonathan’s
WhatsApp? It was a Facebook post he shared. I thought it was a nice picture, so I forwarded it to you.”
After her confession, Xavier didn’t say anything for a while.
Seeing that he wasn’t responding, Norah suddenly felt anxious, “Are you mad? I was just kidding, honestly, just
trying to lighten the mood!”
“No,” Xavier replied nonchalantly, “I’m hanging up.”
“Wait!” Norah interjected, nervously biting her lip, “Are you really upset? If I bothered you, I promise not to make
such jokes in the future.”
“I’m not upset. I’m going to sleep. You should go to bed early too, Xavier’s voice retained his characteristic
huskiness, but sounded somewhat distant, “You’re lying. You don’t usually go to sleep this early, Norah retorted with
a soft sigh. After a moment of silence, she added, “Why didn’t you respond to my earlier message?”
“What message?”
“I said I miss you.”
Norah looked up at the moon outside, her eyes filled with tenderness and her voice grew even softer.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmXavier took a deep breath, “Norah, I don’t think we’re well-suited for each other.”
“I’m not discussing whether we’re right for each other right now. I just want to know do you miss me?” Norah
asked, her voice trembling slightly with
nervousness.
Xavier didn’t say anything.
With the cool night breeze gently touching on her face, Norah chuckled, “I already know your answer. It’s okay.
Whether or not you miss me won’t change the fact that I miss you. Anyway, I’m going to bed now. I’ll bring you
guys breakfast from Star Cafe on Saturday morning.”
“Okay,” Xavier responded in a low tone.
Norah ended the call and leaned against the railing, gazing up at the moon.
Atrace of bitterness lingered in her heart, but it didn’t upset her too much due to her habitual resilience.
Instead, she felt a slight joy from the bitterness, the kind of satisfaction one experienced upon hearing the voice of
someone they deeply care for. The fact that he called and even offered to pick her up suggested that he wasn’t
entirely indifferent towards her, right?
As Norah replayed every word Xavier said and comforted herself, a smile slowly spread across her face. Suddenly,
she missed him more than ever.
