Chapter 1741
“She’d be practically a senior designer with all that care!”
Edwina Edgar Bishop rushed forward, fuming, “Lara, have your designs been finished? You’re just chatting away
here. You want to get chewed out by the deputy director?”
“And you lot!” She turned to the others, “Are you designers or old gossipers, ready for a showdown with the town’s
coffee klatch?”
Lara and the others were ready to retort, but when they saw Emily, they remembered Director Ron’s instructions to
look after her. Not daring to speak, they left with sheepish expressions.
“When it comes to design, they’re all as dumb as a box of rocks, but gossiping is their forte!” Edwina turned back to
Emily, “Just ignore them!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEmily was still confused, “What happened?”
Edwina frowned, “Don’t get mad, but there’s a rumor going around the office that on Friday night, you took
advantage of Mr. James’ drunkenness, knocked on his door, and didn’t come out all night. I for one don’t believe it!”
“Finding out who spread the rumor shouldn’t be too hard. Think about it, there were only a few people at the hotel
that night. You must have an idea who it was, right?” Edwina queried.
Emily nodded, “Yes!”
Manuel was least likely, and Ron wouldn’t gossip with the designers. The most probable was Chad. They two were
rivals after all, and ever since she had been involved in the design of the James Building, Chad had been sour.
But whether the rumor was spread by Chad or his assistant was unclear.
If she confronted Chad, he would undoubtedly deny it.
“What are you planning to do?” Edwina asked.
Emily went to get a glass of water, “Let them talk! I know I’m innocent”
Edwina nodded, “It’s true that you can’t do much about rumors. Nobody would admit to spreading them and the
more you care, the happier they are to talk. It’s frustrating, but ignoring them is the best approach.”
“Right!” Emily nodded, “Let’s get back to work!”
The James Group As Gavin exited the elevator, he received a call from Paragon Pixel Design, “Hello, Mr. Gavin, this
is Cedric, the deputy director of Paragon Pixel Design.”
Gavin greeted him with a smile, “Hello, what can I do for you?”
“Well, there seems to be some misunderstanding about Emily escorting Mr. James upstairs on Friday night.
There’s been a lot of negative chatter at the office about Emily, and I’m hoping someone from your company could
clear the air. She’s new to the industry, and it would be a shame if her career was tarnished over a
misunderstanding,’ Cedric’s voice was stern, “I once had a student whose career was ruined like this. I don’t want

Gavin’s smile faded, “I can’t believe such thing happened.”
“I can see that you also admire Emily’s work and wouldn’t want her reputation tarnished.”
Gavin replied blandly, “Mr. Cedric, rest assured. We will handle this.”
“That’s a relief!” Cedric’s voice was heavy, “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome!”
Gavin hung up, furrowed his brows, and headed for the CEO’s office.
Upon entering, Gavin placed the documents in his hand in front of Charlie, “I’ve reviewed the merger case and it
needs your final signature. Also, I didn’t find any issues with the cooperation plan with InnovateHub Inc., but you
should have a look.”
Charlie was engrossed in the document, barely looking up at Gavin, and uttered lukewarmly, “I’ll check it.”
Gavin didn’t leave, saying in a deep voice, “Another thing, Cedric from Paragon Pixel Design just called. Seems like
Emily is in some trouble!”
Charlie looked up abruptly, “What happened to her?”
