Chapter 1743
Chad didn’t dare to argue. He just hung his head and mumbled, “I just had a few too many beers and vented to
Abbot. I didn’t think he’d go spreading rumors.”
Ron spoke up, “Mr. James sent Gavin to look into this. I can’t protect you even if I want to, Chad. Just write your
resignation letter.”
If it was just the firm dealing with this, a warning or a fine would have sufficed. But with Gavin sitting right there in
the office, mentioning that Charlie’s reputation was at stake, this couldn’t be shrugged off.
Chad’s eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Ron, “Mr. Ron, that’s a bit harsh! I didn’t say all that. They’re just
making things up!”
“But now Gavin wants an explanation. What can I do?” Ron frowned, “There’s no turning back now. This should

Chad was devastated. After so many years at Paragon Pixel Design, he’d finally made it to senior designer, only to
be fired over some idle gossip. How could he accept it?
Regardless of his pleas, Ron was unmoved. He even fired Chad’s assistant along with him.
After firing Chad, Ron called a meeting in the design department, “On Friday night, I am the one who asked Emily to
look after Mr. James at a dinner. Cedric and I waited for her to leave the hotel after that. Cedric can vouch for me.
The rumors are malicious lies and the culprits have paid the price. If I hear anyone discussing this behind my back,
don’t blame me for being ruthless and kicking you out of the firm!”
Everyone listened quietly, realizing Chad had been fired. Those who’d gossiped earlier were now scared.
Edwina winked at Emily, a smug grin on her face.
“We’re all colleaques here, working together for the firm. We should be united and focus on doing our jobs, not
spreading gossip. It not only hurts others but also reflects poorly on you. Such low behavior is beneath the title of
designer.”
Ron gave a long speech, then publicly comforted Emily before returning to his office.
“Mr. Gavin, the matter has been resolved!”
Ron reported the outcome to Gavin, “Emily was wronged. And I’ll make sure she’s compensated.”
“Mr. Ron, you sure know how to get things done!” Gavin complimented casually, standing up, “I should get going
now. Mr. James is waiting for me”
“Sure, I won’t keep you then,” Ron replied with a smile plastered on his face.
Gavin headed outside. As he was waiting for the elevator, Emily approached. Ron wisely stepped aside.
“Thank you for making the trip just for this thing,” Emily said softly.
“Don’t thank me. You know who sent me here!” Gavin replied with a grin, raising an eyebrow.

“No amount of thanks from me can compare to a personal call from you; Gavin said earnestly, “Emily, Mr.
James has never been so invested in a woman before.”
Eyes flicking, Emily looked down, not saying a word.
“The elevator’s here. I’ve got to go. If there’s anything, call Mr. James or me. You’re Mr. James’ designated
designer, it’s our duty to protect you,’ Gavin said, smiling.
Emily pressed her lips, “Goodbye, Mr. Gavin!”
“Goodbye!” Gavin waved, “Get back to work!”
“Okay.”
Emily watched as Gavin got on the elevator. Only when the doors closed did she return.
Sitting at her desk, Emily couldn’t help but recall the words Charlie had said to her that night, his deep eyes filled
with pain.
His entranced yet painful expression was etched into her mind. Even in her dreams, she couldn’t escape those
persistent eyes.
Emily covered her face with her hands, feeling torn of ambivalence.
