Chapter 1766
Charlie floored the gas, and by the time he arrived at Bright Commercial Center, it was already dusk.
He walked in to find the living room empty, the bedroom door locked tight.
“Emily; Charlie knocked, “Open up.”
There was no answer.
“Emily, you always hide when there’s trouble. When will you ever change?” Charlie leaned against the wall, rubbing
his forehead, “Open the door, let’s talk this out.”
“Emily, I wasn’t clear-minded that night, I didn’t remember it was you, but you were the one who drugged me, you
can’t blame me.”
“Emily, are you really planning to deny me my rights as Kya’s father?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSuddenly, the front door swung open, and Estelle walked in, furrowing her brows, “Charlie?”
Charlie walked over, “Estelle.”
“What are you doing here?” Estelle asked.
“I found out Kya is my daughter.” Charlie’s voice was joyful yet tinged with frustration, “Emily’s hiding from me.
She won’t open the door no matter what I say.”
A look of surprise flashed across Estelle’s face, “How did you find out?”
Charlie briefly recounted how Noreen tried to scam him out of money by using Kya.
Estelle hadn’t expected Noreen to return. It seemed fate had a hand in this.
She handed Charlie a bottle of water, “Charlie, I knew about Kya from the start. I’m sorry for keeping it from you”
Charlie sat on the couch, looking at Estelle in puzzlement, “Why keep it a secret?”
As Estelle sat across from him, she thought back to the events of three years ago, her expression somber, “Emily
didn’t intentionally trick you. She was pushed into a corner by her mother and Noreen. Fifty thousand dollars, to
Emily back then, it was impossible.”
“Emily agreed to Noreen’s terms but didn’t want her to succeed. Later, after you cut ties with Emily because of this
incident, she worked multiple jobs to pay back Noreen. It was only when she fainted from exhaustion and was taken
to the hospital that she found out she was pregnant.”
Charlie’s brows furrowed tightly. Thinking about Emily’s circumstances back then, his joy turned into heartache.
“When she decided to keep the baby, she planned to tell you about it. That day, at the 9th Mansion, Emily gathered
all her courage to approach you, but you brought your fiancée along. You didn’t want to hear anything she had to
say.”
Charlie suddenly looked up, recalling that day. He had thought about that night countless times during the two years
Emily was away from J City, wondering what Emily wanted to tell him as she waited there.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBut he never imagined what she wanted to tell him was that she was carrying his child.
Regret and pain surged within him. “l, I really didn’t know.” He said, covering his forehead and closing his eyes.
Otherwise, how could he have ignored her that day.
Because he didn’t stop for her that day, didn’t give her a chance to speak, he missed out on three whole years with
Emily and Kya.
He felt as if he had been struck by a sucker punch, a pain that was hard to shake off.
How could this happen?
“Charlie, Estelle began slowly, “What’s done is done. Don’t blame yourself. You were innocent at the time too.
Emily doesn’t hold it against you, she always felt she owed you. Emily really had a tough time these past few years.
Don’t blame her for not accepting you. She fears that your feelings for her aren’t strong, that her family would be a
burden to you. She’s afraid that if you’re only acting on impulse, once you leave, she won’t even have Kya
anymore.”
Charlie felt a heavy burden on his heart, his voice hoarse, “I understand, I know what kind of impression I made on
her from the start. I understand her worries.”
