Chapter 625
Charlie leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window, looking up at the person who just entered the room. A look of surprise flashed in his eyes as he turned his gaze to Emily.
The tall and curvy woman leaning on Charlie looked back, her face full of annoyance. “Who the hell barges in without knocking? You look like a total idiot!”
Emily’s face turned beet red, and she quickly lowered her head to apologize, stammering a bit. “I’m so sorry, I did knock! I thought you were Mr. James’s assistant, I didn’t know Mr. James had come back from a meeting. I’m really so sorry!”
She turned to leave right away.
She really didn’t know Charlie was in the office. That assistant had just told her he was in a meeting.
“Wait a minute!”
Just before Emily could reach the door, Charlie suddenly spoke up. “Did you bring something for me? Bring it here then!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtCharlie pushed the woman in front of him aside, smiling gently. “Give me a moment, alright?”
“Hurry back!” the woman pouted playfully.
Charlie walked up to his desk, watching as Emily slowly turned back, not daring to look directly at him, her face flushed and embarrassed.
She handed him the documents on the table and said, “Here it is. I’ll get back to work now.”
“Alright, off you go!” Charlie said.
Emily turned around and practically ran out of the room.
The woman on the couch applied some lipstick, got up, walked over to Charlie, and hugged him from behind. “Ugh, people like that are so annoying. You should just fire her!”
Charlie glanced at the documents Emily brought him and laughed, “are you trying to run my company’s affairs before we’re even together?”
The woman’s eyes flicked, and she cooed, “We’re already so close, what’s the difference? So, how do we make our relationship official? How about tonight…?”
She sat on Charlie’s lap, one hand hooked around his neck, her red lips seductive. “Shall we make it official this evening?”
Charlie’s face was handsome, but his eyes were cold. “Forget it, I’m kind of fed up with this!”
The woman froze, her seductive smile faltering. “What do you mean?”
Charlie pushed her away, disgusted and cold. “Your perfume is really off putting, makes me feel nauseous!”
He tossed a card onto the table. “This is for today, now get out!”
The woman turned pale, “Charlie, are you insulting me?”
Charlie glanced at her coldly, not speaking, but his icy demeanor sent chills down her spine.
The woman sniffed, “Fine, I’ll leave, but don’t ever come looking for me again!”
She stormed out, but after a few steps, she turned back to snatch up the card on the table, glared furiously at Charlie, and sobbed as she ran away.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmCharlie looked down at the documents in his hands, only to realize he hadn’t comprehended a single word.
He felt inexplicably irritable and anxious. He got up and walked out, coldly asking his assistant, “Who let Emily come in?”
The assistant, Enid, froze. Seeing Charlie’s angry face, she blurted out, “It was me!”
Charlie’s face turned ashen. “Why didn’t you inform me beforehand? Pack your things and get out, now!”
Enid was stunned and wanted to explain something, but Charlie had already turned around, slammed the office door shut.
Emily, still in a daze, returned to her desk and sat down, not moving for a while.
By the time people started leaving for lunch, Emily was the only one left in the office.
She got up and went to the bathroom. She splashed cold water on her face, then vigorously scrubbed and rinsed the corners of her mouth, where Charlie had kissed her that night.
It was a long time before she stood up and looked at her swollen lips in the mirror, feeling the pain.
Her face was covered with water, and her eyes seemed to fill with tears. It suddenly dawned on her that it wasn’t the pain in her lips, but the ache in her heart that bothered her.
