Chapter 197 Tampered with Mr. Davis's Medication After a long silence, Nathan spoke up, "Maybe neither of them lied. The one who lied... could be Mr. Davis himself." Penelope was startled. "Mr. Davis?" she said, stunned.
Nathan rationalized, "If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Davis probably approached Kelvin with the idea of giving Anthony half the shares to support his half-brother. But obviously, Kelvin wouldn't have liked that. Mr. Davis knew his son's nature that it would take tto negotiate, not something that could be settled quickly.
"So, Mr. Davis planned to lay his cards on the table with Kelvin, share his thoughts, and then negotiate. However, that evening, Anthony's girlfriend turned up pregnant at the Davis family estate, causing Mr. Davis to becirate. In his anger, he blurted out that he wouldn't give him any shares, which must have left Anthony disgruntled.
"In wealthy families, lineage is paramount, but they don't just accept any child a woman claim is theirs. That night, the Davis family was likely all present, dealing with Anthony's scandal, and Mr. Davis's statement made Anthony feel humiliated and hopeless.
"And then the next day..." Nathan's face grew somber. "The car accident happened. Mr. Davis was critically injured, and in the emergency treatment by Mr. Cooper, a medication error occurred, hastening Mr. Davis's death." The silence filled the private room after her words.
After a moment, Penelope spoke up, "Is there any chance that even the car accident was a conspiracy?" Nathan shook his head, and said, "That's unlikely." "Why not?" she asked.
Nathan explained, "How many people could orchestrate a car accident right under Kelvin's nose and deceive his eyes? After Mr. Davis' death, Kelvin must have had his people thoroughly investigate and confirm it was an accident before they pinned all the blon Mr. Cooper." Penelope picked up where Nathan left off, "So, the accident was an unforeseen disaster. And Lily and Anthony, seeing it as an opportunity, ruthlessly decided to go all in and switched Mr. Davis' medication, leading to... his death." Nathan concluded, "It's very likely that the truth is just as you've described." "But..." Penelope closed her eyes, her voice drained, "there's no evidence." How could they find evidence now? Mr. Davis had been dead for over two years, and whatever traces there might have been had grown cold; the hospital staff had long since changed.
"We won't find evidence, Penelope. If Anthony had left any trail, Kelvin would have discovered it by now," Nathan pointed out.

"There will be a way," Nathan reassured her. "If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it. Don't lose heart, Penelope." Penelope hung her head low, saying, "I just... if even Kelvin couldn't find evidence, what chance do we have..." Nathan added, "He didn't suspect Anthony nor anticipate that they would have the audacity to do such things- one to kill a husband and the other to harm a father. We, meanwhile, zeroed in on both of them early on." Penelope sighed and nodded, "Let's just hope we find a lead." "I'll keep probing Anthony, and I'll contact you with any clues," Nathan assured.
Penelope mentioned, "Nathan, I've been thinking-this is a big deal, and Anthony is surely cautious. Getting him to spill anything is next to impossible. I'm going to think hard over the next few days about how to get evidence." Nathan said, "I've been contemplating it too." The truth was within reach, and the suspects were identified.
But the agony was due to a lack of proof.
Leaving the private room, Penelope felt a wave of hopelessness.
However, a new thought quickly dispelled her gloom-there was progress, not mere groping in the dark.
As she stepped out of the coffee cafe and was about to hail a cab, Jack suddenly appeared, "Mrs. Davis, letgive you a ride back to the office." She started with fright, "You, you..." "I'm always around," Jack said.
Penelope clasped her chest, gazing at Jack in stunned silence.
This must be someone Kelvin arranged. So, my meeting with Nathan today won't stay under wraps.
"You've been following me? Lingered outside?" Penelope inquired, "Never left?" Planning your weekend reading? Ensure you're on novi L5sfor uninterrupted enjoyment. Jack, who seemed like an emotionless robot, replied, "Mrs. Davis, you need not worry. My only responsibility is ensuring your safety; I do not pry into your privacy." Penelope breathed a sigh of relief.
After a moment's thought, she tentatively asked, "Can you keep it a secret from Kelvin that I met with someone?" Jack shook his head, and said, "I cannot." "You're my bodyguard; you should obey me," Penelope asserted. "As long as I'm safe, there's no need to report everything to Kelvin." Jack answered, "Mr. Davis has instructedto report all matters." This guy is so stubborn.
"Are you sure you want to side with Kelvin? Won't stand by me?" Penelope prodded, "I'll have to find a way to save..." She clapped her hand over her mouth.
Her escape plan now had to account for Jack's safety as well.
The last thing Penelope wanted was for Jack's life to be ruined because she decided to leave.
"So, Mrs. Davis means that you still intend to escape," Jack concluded.
"I never said that!" she denied.
Jack looked at her. "Mrs. Davis, just follow your heart, don't worry about me," he assured.
"Aren't you afraid of the consequences?" Penelope asked.
Jack replied, "Punishment comes from failure to do what's right; it's something I should accept."

Penelope headed to the car. "Fine, takeback to the office," she yielded.
En route, she casually inquired about Jack's personal history.
She discovered... Jack had a rough life.
Orphaned at a young age and raised by his Grandmother until she passed away, he drifted to L.A. all alone.
He had lived under a bridge, rummaged through dumpsters, and hauled bricks on construction sites until his tall build and strong physique landed him a spot on the Davis family security team, finally providing him food, shelter, and sustenance. Jack's plight reminded Penelope of her struggles. She felt a surge of empathy.
Life was already a full-on battle for someone like him; how could she contribute to his punishment? Penelope also understood that Kelvin deliberately chose someone with a tragic background to evoke her sympathy.
He always knew how to leverage her soft side.
As she exited the vehicle, Penelope asked, "If one day I away right of your used to is would you resent me?" "No, Mrs. Davis," he answered, "If I'm punished, it's because of my neglect and has nothing to do with you." All right, Penelope thought, on the day I made my escape, I might as well knock out or drug Jack to keep him completely out of the way.
She returned to her office and had just settled in when Lily's call cthrough.
Hesitating for a few seconds, Penelope answered, "Hello?" "Penelope, I'm at the coffee shop across from your company," Lily informed. "Do you dare meet me?" "Are you trying to provoke me?" Penelope wondered.
