Chapter 118
"It was a defamation case, and we were the plaintiffs," Allison said, taking a sip of her drink. "Joshua, you
wouldn't believe how tough it was to gather evidence for this one. The client initially handed over such
incomplete evidence, and | spent over a month piecing it all together with them."
"Over a month? Wasn't that right before our engagement?" Joshua asked, placing a peeled shrimp into Allison's
bowl. "That sounds exhausting."
"Yeah, it was just before we got engaged," Allison replied, dipping the shrimp into ssauce. "It was tiring,
sure, but once we got the winning verdict, it was all worth it."
With a smile, Allison pulled out her phone. "Oh, and my client even senta plaque. Here, take a look."
Allison eagerly flipped through her photo gallery, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she showed off the
plaque. "It's the first ta client has sentsomething like this."
She beamed like a kid who'd just been given a gold star in kindergarten. Her bright eyes were waiting for some
praise.
Joshua looked at her with tender affection, his voice gentle and doting. "My star lawyer is really something."
"Hehe," Allison giggled, blinking playfully, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Just doing my thing."
Shawn felt a tight knot form in his chest, and his back stiffening a bit.

He'd always thought their relationship was just a business deal, nothing more. He figured if he straightened up,
he'd have a shot at winning Allison back.
Now, he realized how wrong he was.
They were the picture of a couple head over heels in love!
Back in Havenbrook, Allison would sometimes share work stories with him.
He used to think they were not worth his attention.
He'd tell her that all her hard work earned her so little and couldn't even cover a night out with his friends.
Little did he know, she cfrom a wealthy family and worked just to experience life and find her own worth!
When Allison talked about her work with Joshua, her eyes lit up with excitement, like she was a sparkling gem.
She's totally transformed into someone new.
Sadly, that gem wasn't his anymore.
Shawn watched Allison and Joshua's easy laughter and closeness. He was eaten up with jealousy.
Those moments should have been shared with him!
Her joys and sorrows should have been his to share.
Suddenly, he regretted following them here.
He'd meant to throw a wrench in things and mess with Joshua's head to break them up.
However, in the end, he was the one who ended up rattled!
Watching the woman he loved flaunt her affection for someone else was like a punch to the gut, leaving him
feeling bitter and jealous.
The server brought out the food.
Jayden picked up his fork, ready to dig in.
Shawn, sitting across from him, suddenly stood up with a jolt.
The chair screeched against the tiled floor, grabbing everyone's attention in the restaurant.
Shawn got up and walked out without a backward glance.
Even from behind, it was clear how angry he was.
Eventually, Shawn couldn't handle it anymore.
Jayden sighed, took a bite, and muttered to himself, "More forthen. I've been starving all afternoon..."
Back in his car, Shawn lit a cigarette.

As the city lights flickered to life, the neon signs outside the car window danced and dazzled.
Inside, smoke curled around him.
Shawn's mind drifted back to when he and Allison used to eat together, and she would always sit across from
him.
Back then, he hadn't thought much of it.
Today, he saw her sitting beside another guy.
The table was small, and sitting on the sside made it a bit cramped.
still, she chose to sit beside him.
He even noticed Allison's leg casually resting on Joshua's lap.
It was such an intimate gesture, something she'd never shared with him before.
Shawn replayed these memories over and over until the cigarette burned down to his fingers, jolting him back to
reality with its sting.
He took out his phone and sent a message.
Shawn: [I agree to work with you.]
