Chapter 148

Joshua trailed behind Lillian as they headed out. Her words had him puzzled. He clearly remembered mentioning

that a chef made the soup, following his grandmother's instructions, yet she insisted he made it himself.

Just as he stepped out of the hospital room, still pondering over this oddity, he caught a glimpse of someone

standing by the door of the room next door. It was like he'd been hit by lightning.

"Allie?" Joshua's voice shook a bit.

Allison turned at the sound, locking eyes with him. Seeing Lillian in a hospital gown next to Joshua made Allison's

brow crease slightly.

Joshua quickly closed the distance between them, his voice filled with urgency. "Allie, what are you doing here?"

She was in a hospital gown too, looking pale. "Are you sick?" he asked, grabbing her hand. "Why didn't you tell

me?"

Allison lowered her gaze, her voice a whisper. "You've been so busy lately. | didn't want to be a burden to you."

A flicker of pain crossed Joshua's eyes. "It's never a burden. You're more important than anything else." Allison

gently pulled her hand back. "I'm okay. Don't you have things to handle? You should go."

She was referring to Lillian. Allison knew Lillian had sunspoken feelings for Joshua, and her hostility was

obvious. Joshua surely sensed it too.

Allison kept reminding herself that Lillian was Joshua's sister, and it was only natural for a brother to check on his

sick sister. She shouldn't be petty or jealous. But still, her heart felt a pang of jealousy.

Thinking of Joshua finding tin his hectic schedule to visit Lillian and even bringing her soup stirred a

bitterness she couldn't shake off.

Joshua placed his hands on Allison's shoulders. "Allie, you're not well. I'm staying here with you."

He turned to Lillian and said, "The nurse is back, so tell her to take you downstairs to soak up ssun."

Without waiting for Lillian's response, Joshua took Allison's hand and led her back into the room. The door closed,

leaving just the two of them.

"Allie, when did you fall ill?"

"Just a couple of days ago."

"What happened?"

"It's just a mild flu, nothing serious."

Joshua, still holding Allison's hand, sat down on the hospital bed. "Next time, letknow immediately, okay?"

Allison looked down, biting her lip. "I didn't want to interrupt your work."

Joshua always had endless patience with her. "I've told you, it wouldn't. You're always my number one priority."

He paused, his eyes warm and full of affection. "Besides, | work hard to earn money for my future wife.df | can't

even be there for you, what's the point?"

"Hmph." Allison pouted. "We're not even married yet, and you're already callingyour wife?"

Joshua chuckled, his voice full of delight. "You'll be my wife sooner or later, so why not start now?"

Thinking about Lillian's earlier comment, Allison felt a lump in her throat. "Really? Then why don't you make soup

for me?"

Joshua caught on quickly and

patiently explained, "It's not what she

said. Grandmother called earlier, askingto check on Lillian. | didn't want to, but she apologized for what

happened at the family dinner and askedto give her sface by visiting Lillian."

"The soup was prepared by

someone Grandmother hired and et

handed over toat the hospital entrance. | didn't make it myself."

Allison stayed silent.

"Are you jealous?" His voice was laced with amusement. "Allie's jealous over me."
