Chapter 149

That afternoon, John hauled over the CEO's laptop, along with all the contracts, reports, and project proposals

they'd need in the next few days, straight into Allison's hospital room. He even set up a desk and chair for

Joshua.

Even though Allison had hired a nurse, Joshua was adamant about being there for her in person.

There wasn't much for him to do-nurses handled the IVs, a cook took care of meals, and the aide was around for

cleaning and serving tea. But Joshua, despite his packed schedule, always found something to keep busy with.

Allison offhandedly mentioned how he made soup for Lillian. Even though it wasn't actually his doing, Allison got

a bit miffed, so Joshua promised to whip up ssoup for her the next morning to cheer her up.

When the cook brought the meal, Joshua personally set it up on the small table and fed Allison, spoonful by

spoonful.

Allison gave a playful smile. “You know, I'm not a kid. | can eat on my own."

"Nope, not with that IV in your hand,” he replied.

After the meal, when it was tfor her meds, Joshua poured her swater and made sure she took them.

Even when Allison fancied sfruit, Joshua insisted on slicing it for her.

Allison chuckled, glancing at the stack of papers on his desk. “Aren't you busy?"

"No matter how busy I am, | can't have you feel neglected," he said with a wink.

The nurse aide nearby beamed. "Ms. Allison, your husband truly adores you." Allison's cheeks flushed, her ears

turning red, but she didn't deny it.

Once the aide left, Joshua glanced up from his desk, eyes warm, “So, admitting I'm your husband now?"

Allison winked back, "Didn't you say I'd end up your wife sooner or later? I'm not running away, and | couldn't

even if | tried, so | might as well admit it.”

A grin tugged at his lips. "Now that's more like it.”

Thanks to Joshua's attentive care, Allison was soon back on her feet and discharged from the hospital.

Joshua finally wrapped up a tough

project, giving him sfree time. He planned to take Allison on a getaway to unwind. Last time, when he took

Allie to watch the meteor shower, Lillian's interruption had put a damper on things. Plus, Allie had faced some

family at a gathering afterward. Joshua felt bad and wanted this trip to bring them closer.

He asked for Allison's input, and it turned out a few of her cases had just wrapped up or were waiting for

hearings, so she had a few days to spare. She was all in for the trip.

Given her tight schedule, they

decided to stay local. Their

destination? A charming little town nestled at the foot of a snowy mountain in the northwest-one of Allison's

dream spots she'd been meaning to visit for years but hadn't found the time.

Shawn got a call from his friend Colt right after a meeting.

"Colt, what's up?" Shawn asked, heading to his office with the phone pressed to his ear.

Colt replied, "Bro, guess who | just ran into?"

"Who?" Shawn asked, not in the mood for guessing games.

Colt sounded pumped, "Con, guess!"

Shawn, a bit impatient, said, “I'm not guessing. I'm swamped. If it's nothing urgent, I'm hanging up."

Back in the day, Shawn and Colt were two peas in a pod-living it up, carefree, and spending their family's money

without a second thought.

But after the Reynolds Group hit a

rough patch, Shawn had to pull back, focus on the business, and hunt for investments left and right. Finding out

about Allison's wealthy background made him kick himself for his past choices.
