Chapter 154
"Can you lean down a bit?" Allison pouted, "I can't reach."
Joshua obliged, lowering his head to meet Allison's lips, offering them up for a kiss. The usually proud and
unyielding man had never bowed his head for anyone before. Only Allison could make him do so willingly.
Allison wrapped her arms around Joshua's neck and moved in for a kiss. With people bustling all around them,
she was too shy to make it a deep one, so she gave him a quick peck and started to pull away.
Suddenly, Joshua cupped the back of her head, pulling her in for a deeper kiss. Allison realized his next move
and wriggled free, her face turning a bright shade of red. She coughed, trying to cover her embarrassment.
"Ahem, ahem."
"There are too many people around; let's save it for later," she suggested.
Joshua, clearly in a good mood, flashed her a warm smile. "Alright."

Allison turned her head away, still blushing. But then, her expression froze, the smile slipping from her lips.
A sharp wind swept through, and snow began to fall from the sky. Standing at the inn's entrance was Shawn,
watching her through the swirling snowflakes. Joshua noticed him, too, and the warmth in his eyes turned to ice.
Joshua took Allison's hand and started walking toward Shawn. Shawn stood still at the doorway, watching the
couple approach, hand in hand. Snowflakes settled on his khaki coat, only to melt away.
It was as if everything had paused and tslowed down on that winter afternoon. Memories surfaced in his
mind. Allison had once joyfully held his arm and asked him to take her to a quaint village. She was dreaming of
snowy mountains and charming inns. What had he said back then? He couldn't recall. All he remembered was his
excuse to refuse her and the smile fading from her face. Her disappointment was clear.
He'd known all along but didn't want to comfort her or give in. He thought it seemed unnecessary because they
were just a fling. Now he was here, but she was gone.
Shawn's lips tightened, his heart ached, and his chest was heavy, almost suffocating.

Seems like we're always bumping

Shawn's jaw tensed. He ignored Joshua, and his eyes pleaded as they met Allison's. "Allie, I've cfor our

Allison's expression was icy. "I don't recall making any plans with you. What date?"

"Better late than never doesn't really work here," Allison replied evenly, her
tone polite but her words cutting. "Pretending to care is even worse.’
"Allie..." Regret and anguish filled Shawn's eyes. "Can't you giveanother chance? | can make things right."
Joshua laughed, disdain dripping from his voice. "And why would she?"
Allison's gaze was cold. "Shawn, your persistence only makesdislike you more."
Reduced to nothing, Shawn's voice trembled. "What would it take for you to look back at me?"
Allison met his eyes, her words deliberate and final. "That's never going to happen."
