Chapter 209

In the past few days, Allison had been sticking to Joshua's advice, keeping a low profile by staying at hand

working remotely.

Joshua didn't waste any tin identifying the mastermind behind Blake's actions. The man was Wesley, a

notorious figure in Oak Lake who operated on both sides of the law. He was practically a local big shot, with high-

level connections offering him protection.

Wesley was the puppet master behind numerous companies, with frontmen acting as official representatives, but

they were just fall guys with no real ties to him. On the surface, these businesses looked legit, but behind the

scenes, they were knee-deep in illegal activities.

Joshua shrugged off his coat and hung it up. "My sources dug up sintel that a few days back, Chris returned

to the country, and Wesley wasted no tin meeting with him. Looks like Wesley is planning to use Chris as a

safety net.

"Chris has a huge presence in South America, with a ton of businesses under his belt. Wesley's trying to latch

onto him to break into international dealings. Meanwhile, Chris, lacking influence here, is on the hunt for a

partner. They're a pair of misfits that seem to have hit it off, probably already scheming against me."

Allison knit her brows, "What's your plan?"

"Relax, Allie. I've got a strategy in place. Chris won't be able to stir up much trouble here."

"Alright." But Allison couldn't shake off the worry gnawing at her about Joshua's predicament.

"Have you noticed any strange visitors lately?" Joshua asked.

He had a team of bodyguards stationed outside the villa around the clock to keep Allison safe. If there were any

shady characters, his team would report instantly, but he needed to hear it straight from Allison for peace of

mind.

Allison shook her head, "Nope."

"Good. Be wary of strangers."

"1 will."

In the dimly lit hotel suite, a man was caught up in his own fantasy, murmuring, "Allison, Allison..."

"Shawn."

"Smack!" Out of nowhere, Shawn slapped Kate across the face.

"Shut up! I told you, no talking in bed!"

As long as she stayed quiet, he could pretend she was Allison.

Kate bit her lip, holding back tears, feeling completely hurt.

The couple-themed suite bed was sprinkled with rose petals, the pink lighting setting a mood of intense intimacy.

With the lights dimmed, Kate's face was hard to make out, and Shawn was lost in his illusion that she was

Allison.

Lately, Kate had been hopelessly mimicking Allison. Her build was quite similar, and they shared a slight

resemblance.

Shawn had once admitted that when he first got together with Allison, he saw a bit of Kate in her.

Kate had also mentioned when she

first met Allison how much they

looked alike. At the time, her comment was meant to provoke Allison, to make her realize she was just a stand-

in.

But now, the tables had turned.

Kate willingly embraced the role of Allison's stand-in, copying her style, her makeup, her hairstyle, even wearing

her favorite perfume.

It turned out that Shawn's love for Allison wasn't as rock-solid as he claimed, or maybe it just showed that some

men could separate physical desire from love.

He swore he couldn't live without Allison, yet here he was, easily swayed by Kate's allure.

Even though he was calling out another woman's name, Kate didn't mind anymore.

As long as she could stay by Shawn's side, she could swallow the humiliation.

Over at Windswept House, Joy

called, buzzing with excitement, "Ms. Allison, Peyton's getting out hospital tomorrow. Want to come

"l can't, I'm stuck at hfor now."

"Is everything alright?"
