Chapter 219
In the evening, Allison got a call from her best friend, Sabrina. “Hey babe, New Year's Eve is coming up fast. Got
any plans?"
Allison glanced at her phone's calendar-it was already December 28th.
"Not really," she replied, her voice a bit raspy from all the crying earlier. Sabrina noticed right away. "Babe,
what's going on? You sound a little rough." "I'm okay, just caught a bit of a cold."
"Oh, alright then," Sabrina said, not questioning her further. "So, what's the plan for New Year's? Are you
spending it with Joshua, or hanging out with Olivia and me?"
Just hearing Joshua's nmade Allison's eyes well up again. “Joshua and I...”
"What about you two?"
The room was brightly lit, and snowflakes danced quietly outside the window.

Allison sat on her bed, phone in hand, staring at her toes. "We... we had a bit of a disagreement..."
She didn't want to say they'd broken up. In her mind, it was just a bump in the road.
Sabrina chimed in, "Oh, just a spat? No biggie. Every couple fights once in a while. For New Year's, I'll have my
brother invite Joshua out. We'll meet up, and you two can get salone time. Trust me, a hug and a kiss can fix
anything."
Sabrina paused, then cheekily added, "And if that doesn't do the trick, well, you know what to do just take it to
the next level!"
Sabrina was always so bold, never one to hold back. Allison knew her friend's carefree spirit well, but still, her
cheeks turned pink at Sabrina's suggestive comments.
"Don't get so embarrassed, Allie. I'm telling you, men love things simple and straightforward. Talking it out
doesn't always work with them."
Allison sat through another ten minutes of Sabrina's unfiltered relationship advice before hanging up, her mind
swirling with all sorts of images. She realized she probably shouldn't have brought up Joshua with Sabrina.
That night, sleep eluded Allison. She tossed and turned, unable to settle down.
She decided to replay everything that had happened recently in her mind, and concluded that Joshua's talk of
breaking up was probably to protect her family from Chris.
Allison was hopeful that once
In
Joshua sorted things out with Chris, they'd patch things up. She figured she could pretend nothing happened, act
cool in public, but stay in touch with him privately.
She really wanted to hear Joshua's voice, to talk to him. She missed him so much.
However, it was already two-thirty in the morning. She decided against calling him. Joshua had been so busy and
tired. She didn't want to interrupt his rest.

She'd call him tomorrow instead.
With that in mind, Allison sent Sabrina a text.
[Sabrina, let's skip inviting Joshua for New Year's. Things are a bit complicated right now. I'll fill you in next time
we meet. It's just not the right tfor us to see each other.]
The next morning, bright and early, Joshua told Ray about the breakup. Ray gathered sfancy gifts and, with
Ben and Rose, headed to the hospital to apologize to Javier.
In Javier's hospital room, the Owens family staff neatly arranged the lavish gifts, health supplements, and fruit
before quietly stepping out.
Javier's bed was surrounded by family. Except for Grandma Emily, who was nursing a cold, everyone from the
Owens family was there.
Ray spoke up first. "Javier, | heard about your injury and cback from Oak
Lake just to see you. Wishing you a speedy recovery."
Ray was a big deal in the capital, the kind of guy even the top officials in Oak Lake had to show respect.
