Chapter 223

The call ended abruptly.

"Stop flattering yourself."

Those words lingered in Allison's mind like an unwelcecho. Her heart felt barren, the warmth and affection

Joshua once lavished upon her now slipping away like sand through her fingers.

Outside, snowflakes danced thicker and faster, the icy northern wind howling through the branches. Allison found

herself staring blankly at the swirling snow beyond the window.

Her phone lay silent for a moment before it started buzzing incessantly again. Tears still marked Allison's cheeks,

and the relentless ringtone only added to her fatigue.

The caller was Javier.

"Allie, the Fisher family cby today to call off the engagement."

Her heart was already numb with pain, and she could barely muster a quiet acknowledgment. Javier's voice was

hesitant, almost reluctant, "Did you see the rumors about Joshua and that actress?"

Allison remained silent, her voice refusing to emerge.

Javier continued, "Tomorrow, I'll set up a press conference to officially announce the end of the engagement with

the Fisher family. This time, it's all on them, Allie. There's no shin walking away from this. You're amazing,

and there are plenty of great guys out there for you."

Allison still couldn't find the words. She hadn't expected the Fisher family to move so quickly-Joshua had just

suggested breaking up the night before, and now they were already ending the engagement.

Were they really in such a hurry?

The thought of that sultry voice she'd heard on the phone, and the idea that Joshua might be eager to clear the

way for Megan, made Allison's chest ache with a suffocating heaviness.

"Allie, take care of yourself. After the press conference tomorrow, I'll send someone to bring you home."

Once the press conference wrapped up, the Owens and Carter families would be done for good, and Chris would

hopefully leave the Owens family alone. Javier thought about this as he offered Allison a few more comforting

words, urging her to take care of herself.

Allison gave vague, uninterested replies.

In the dimly lit club lounge, Shawn sat on a sofa, his face hidden in the

shadows, his expression

unreadable. While others drank chatted, and flirted, Shawn felt

completely detached, the lively scene around him seeming irrelevant. He only wanted to sit alone in the corner,

lost in thought.

Allison had disappeared from his life recently. After he got out of the hospital, he learned she had moved, her

apartment next door now empty and quiet. He had no idea where she had gone, and his calls went unanswered.

It was as if Allison had vanished from his world overnight.

He spent stwallowing in despair, numbing himself with alcohol. Once, while heavily drunk, he thought

he saw Allison cback. She wore the dress he had bought her when they were dating, and she smiled softly

at him, "Shawn."

Overcwith joy, he held her tightly, both laughing and crying. Allison gently caressed his face, her eyes full of

concern, "Don't drink so much; it's bad for you. Lettake you to rest."

He placed his hand over hers, nuzzling into her palm with longing, tears falling down his cheeks, "Allie, I'm so

sorry. Will you cback?"

Allison's voice was soft and soothing, "I'm here, aren't I?"

With tears in his eyes, Shawn asked, “I swear I'll only love you, be good to you. Can we start over?"

Her gaze was warm and tender, "Yes, | won't leave again."

"That's wonderful," he murmured, "I thought... I'd never get another chance..." Overwhelmed, he couldn't hold

back his sobs, crying out of relief and regret for past mistakes. It was so good. His Allie was back.

Allison was gentle and comforting, wiping away his tears, leaning in to kiss him. Desire stirred, and the

atmosphere turned increasingly heated. That night, he made love to her over and over. They surrendered to

passion, lost in a blissful oblivion.
