Chapter 259
The garden was alive with the sweet scent of magnolia blossoms, while a chilly breeze carried a flurry of
snowflakes. They landed softly on Allison's hair, disappearing almost as quickly as they arrived. She stood there,
teetering in the wind. Her flu wasn't quite gone, and the cold air made her head throb again.
When she heard Joshua speak, she tucked away the sadness that lingered in her eyes and met his gaze. "Just
remember to pick them next time, okay?"
Joshua felt a lump in his throat. Allison's voice was so soft, carried by the wind, her suppressed sobs fragile
enough to break anyone's heart. "I get it. When you're in love, it's real. And when it's over, it's really over."

A sudden shiver ran down Joshua's spine, spreading quickly through his body. Allison's eyes held a calm
acceptance, a peace tinged with sadness. "I admit, it was tough at first. You promised you'd always be there for
me. | couldn't wrap my head around how quickly things changed. | tried to make excuses for you, tried to
understand your reasons, but you said | was just fooling myself. Now | know, who can really predict love?"
Joshua felt a sharp stab in his heart, a flicker of pain in his eyes. "Promises only mean something when you're in
love," Allison said, her voice so soft that the wind whisked it away.
Joshua listened to her, watched her sad, lonely face, and a fear spread through him that he couldn't control. He
was scared. Scared that once the issue with Chris was sorted, they'd never get back to where they were. He
couldn't picture a future without Allison.
Allison watched Joshua through the swirling snow. After a moment, she forced a smile, trying to sound cheerful.
"Joshua, | wish you all the happiness."

of steps forward. He couldn't stop himself from calling out, "Allison..."
She paused but quickly started walking again. She didn't look back. Not even once. Joshua halted after those two

Allison's pain would be pointless. First he had to deal with the whole Chris mess before he could think about
being with Allison again.
Back at his private villa, the place felt cold and empty. Joshua sat on the sofa, feeling hollow. The sun dipped
below the horizon, leaving the last traces of daylight casting a lonely shadow on his face. He sat there, as stiff as
a statue. As darkness crept in and the room dimmed, Joshua eventually lowered his gaze to the watch on his
wrist. After what seemed like forever, he carefully took it off and placed it in its box. Closing the lid, he felt a
wave of tears welling up. The feeling was new to him-sudden, overwhelming, leaving him at a loss.
A tear fell onto the metal box with a soft tick. The darkness concealed his
reddened eyes, but the moonlight highlighted his solitary, desolate form.
On the sixth day of the new year, the Fisher family had visitors.
