Chapter 189
A shadow flickered in Timothy's eyes-cold, impenetrable.
No wonder Jessica had said she refused to attend anything related to him, even if it involved his family.
His voice was low and unyielding as it cut through the stagnant air. "The Gilded Whisper Estates is my private
property. From now on, you'd better not show up uninvited. Sallie, take Grandpa home."
Without another word, Timothy rose from his seat and strode toward the master bedroom.
"Timothy!" Sallie called after him, hoping to stop him, but he didn't break his stride, disappearing behind the
bedroom door.
Phelps gave Sallie a subtle shake of his head, signaling her to let it go. He stayed to chat with Henry for a few
minutes before quietly taking his leave from the Gilded Whisper Estates.
Sallie was still fuming. "Grandpa, did you see the way Timothy spoke to you? Absolutely infuriating."
But Phelps just chuckled. "It doesn't matter. Didn't you notice? He actually cares about Jessica. If he's willing to
stand up for her, what's there forto be angry about? I'm glad, honestly."
Meanwhile, Jessica was at a real estate agency.

Living alone, she didn't have high expectations. It didn't take her long to purchase
a cozy, move-in-ready apartment-nothing fancy, just over a million.
She could move in immediately.
She'd spent the entire night turning over her arrangement with Timothy in her mind, going over the seven
conditions she'd insisted on. None of them required her to stay at his house.
She'd assumed that once Timothy agreed to her terms, she could endure another month at the Gilded Whisper
Estates, living quietly under the sroof. The truth was, she couldn't stand it even one more day.
As soon as the money was in her hands, her first instinct was to leave him behind.
Now that she had the money, there was nothing he could do to force her back.
Later, she'd stop by the Lawson Group to collect the notarized receipt-once that was done, she'd never set foot
in the Gilded Whisper Estates again.
Still, she felt uneasy leaving such a large sum of cash at home, so she grabbed the lockbox and headed for Ines's
stufirst.
Ines greeted her with a delighted smile, pulling her straight into the office.
"Jessica, | have good news! Director Smith is coming to town the day after tomorrow. He reached out to me-he
wants to meet you."
Jessica's eyelids fluttered. She set down the cash box and quickly signed, "Didn't | already turn down his offer
last time?"
Ines laughed. "You turneddown, but | never said no to Mr. Smith. Listen, he's got a role he's been searching
everywhere to fill. He's a perfectionist, impossible to please, but after seeing your work, he's convinced you're
the one. He wants you to audition."
Jessica hesitated, unsure how to respond.
She only had six months left. There was no way she could commit to an international project. Movies like that
weren't wrapped up in half a year.
Her hands moved quickly as she signed, a pang of regret in her chest. "Ines, the truth is, | have something very
important to take care of in six months. I'll need to be away for a while. That's why | didn't dare accept before |
can't leave things unfinished."
Ines's eyes grew wide. "That's why you turneddown?"
Jessica nodded.
"Oh, you silly thing! Why didn't you just tell me? The role in Director Smith's film is important, but not big. If
things go smoothly, you could finish in three months-six at the most. And if you work with Director Smith this
time, there'll be so many more opportunities in the future. He's in town to handle sbusiness and scout out

Ines's expectations were always so high, Jessica couldn't bear to refuse her again.
Besides, a little spark of hope flared inside her. If this could be her last project, her swan song, it would be the
perfect way to thank Ines for believing in her.
She nodded her agreement.
Just then, Sheila arrived for her first day at Ines's studio. The assistant pointed her toward Ines's office, and as
she approached, she overheard the tail end of Ines's conversation with Jessica.
Sheila's expression soured.
She'd worked with Director Smith before-she'd even tried out for a part in his new film, but hadn't made the cut.
Jessica was Ines's favorite.
If Jessica landed Director Smith's approval now, Sheila would always be second- best in the animation world,
forever in Jessica's shadow.
Her fists clenched.
Jessica had already stolen the man she loved; she couldn't stand by and watch her take her career too.
Sheila stepped out of the studio, pulled out her phone, and dialed Timothy's number.
