Chapter 221
Chapter 221
"When have | ever lied to you?" Lily grabbed her glass on the coffee table and went to the kitchen to wash it.
Hazel followed closely behind. "What about that fashion design thing you studied? Which company do you work
for?
"| studied interior design, and | work as a design assistant at Lupler," Lily repeated for the umpteenth tline,
explaining her college major again.
But Hazel wasn't really interested in what Lily had actually studied. "Why should | care about that? What | want
to know is your job has nothing to do with Terence, right?
Lily placed the cleaned glass onto a tray to drain. She fell silent briefly, unsure of how to respond, but Hazel
interrupted her with an angry outburst.
"Does it have something to do with him? Did he arrange your job? Lily, do you have no shame? If you want a job,
can't you just ask Xavier for help?"

In Hazel's mind, a woman should rely on a man to survive. If a man forbade something, a woman should never
do it, and she certainly shouldn't leave her man to ask another one for help. The way she looked at Lily made it
seem like Lily had committed an unforgivable crime. Yet, she never brought up Xavier's affair.
"Do you still want to stay here?" Lily asked, struggling to keep her emotions in check, her voice trembling. "If
you're staying, keep your mouth shut and don't interfere with my business!" With that, she turned and walked
toward the room.
Hazel followed her. "I"
"Even if you're not staying, don't interfere with my life. From now on, whatever happens to me, whether | live or
die, whether it's good or bad-it's none of your business!
Lily suddenly stopped and said slowly, malding sure her words were clear. She thought she had made herself
clear, but Hazel always acted as if she didn't understand. "Are you cutting ties with us? After all these years of
raising you.."
Lily slammed the door of her room, cutting off Hazel's voice.
Catching the hint, Hazel stopped complaining and returned to her room.
1. m. The silence that followed was eerie. It was so quiet that even the faintest sound could be
heard.
The room felt war with the heating turned on despite the cold winter. Lily sat on the carpet by her bed, dressed
in cotton pajamas.
She held a ring in her hand. She had taken it off after her last visit to the exhibition manor. The ring had been
bought with Xavier's money, but she hadn't returned
In Lily's heart, the ring represented exactly what Xavier did. Wearing it felt like facing a mental block that she
couldn't overcome, but she just couldn't bring herself to throw it away.
The reluctance she felt was mixed with many complicated emotions.
Perhaps it was the alcohol talking, but when she first married Xavier, she was hopeful for their future. Every time
she saw him, her heart would flutter again. She could almost smell the peach liqueur lingering in the air.

As she gazed at the clear night sky, she got up and grabbed her laptop to work. Forher, inspiration and emotions
were tightly connected. The surge of inspiration took over, and she couldn't stop herself.
As the night deepened, her thoughts flowed freely as she typed away on her laptop. By the tdawn was
approaching, she had fallen asleep on the floor, still clutching her laptop,
She slept soundly until late moning. Though the room was warm, lying on the floor without a blanket left her
feeling cold when she woke up.
Yesterday, she hadn't told Terence she was going to work. Every tshe mentioned it, something unexpected
would cup.
After several attempts, she stopped bothering him about it. She wasn't trying to give the impression that she
owned the company,
It was Saturday. She rubbed her sore body and took her phone into the bathroom, listening to a voice message
from Magyatine as she washed up.
"Terenece said you're focused on your competition, so I'm not supposed to bother you these days. It's hard for
me, being single but still caught up in this feeling of longing."
