Sarah followed Tamara to the study after lunch to report on work while Edilli and Shane called Xavier away.

Lily planned to wait til Edith took her attemoon nap and then find an excuse to leave. Until then, she went to the

sunroom in the garden to pass the time.

With the slight pouring in and the room being at a comfortable temperature, she slipped on her down jacket,

ready to leave at any moment, her palms slightly sweating. Her phone rang-Maryanne was calling. "What time

are we going to the hospital?"

"I'll head over soon, around 2:30 p.m.," Lily replied, checking the time.

"I'll pass by your place and pick you up," Maryanne said with a chuckle. "I'll be there soon, let's hang out for a

bit."

Lily hesitated. She wasn't sure how to tell her that she was at the Fulton Manor. Knowing Maryanne's

temperament, she'd probably get upset if she found out.

She stared at the bright sunlight outside, trying to find the right words, but nothing came.

Maryanne saw right through her. "You're not at home?"

Lily replied, "Mm"

"Ar the Fulton Manor?" Maryanne guessed with surprising accuracy.

"Grandma doesn't know about the divorce yet. Her blood pressure's high, so she askedto bring some

Maryanne responded with understanding laughter, "Got It But tell me, what happened this time?"

Ever since Lily mentioned the divorce, it felt like a disaster whenever she saw Xavier or went to the Fulton Manor.

"It's nothing special, just that Xavier brought Sarah hfor dinner."

The sunlight was harsh, so Lily raised her hand to shield her face, her fingers casting a shifting shadow as she

moved.

pocket, tucked her hands inside her jacket, and lifted her gaze.

Xavier's tall, confident figure stood before her. He was hard to ignore in his black shirt, with finely sculpted

features and a strong, handspresence.

When he saw her red eyes, his expression shifted "Mrs. Fulton, why are you crying?"

"You're mistaken," Lily said, lowering her gaze to hide the redness she couldn't control.

"Is that so?" Xavier gently lifted her chin, tilting her face to meet his gaze.

Her lips, full and seductive, puffed out slightly as he pinched them gently. He studied her beautiful eyes, filled

with a hint of grievance and sadness. It was because of him.

He felt a strange sense of satisfaction, but their unsettled tension overshadowed it. He couldn't feel happy about
