Angeline kept the related documents aside and told all the employees, apart from the ones from the IT
department, to go home.
After all, they needed to rest to work efficiently.
By two in the early morning, the driver was waiting for Angeline and Nancy in the garage. Once they had gotten
into the car, the driver started driving toward Angeline’s house.
A tense silence filled the car when they were on the way there.
Angeline looked dog-tired after a busy night’s work. However, she could tell that Nancy wasn’t happy. Arching a
brow, Angeline held Nancy’s hand and asked, “Are you mad at me?”
“Yes! I’m so mad at you.” Nancy glared at Angeline and grumbled, “With your current popularity in the
entertainment industry, you can get into all sorts of good deals. Yet, you ended up choosing to clean up someone’s
mess. Even Mr. Yiurk had failed to fix the problem. Do you really think you’re up for it?”
“Frankly, I’m not sure.” Angeline looked out the window emotionally and uttered in a somber tone, “The
relationships between my family members are too complicated, and I won’t be able to explain them to you.
However, Forrester Group was everything to my mother. I absolutely can’t let someone call it anything but that.”
Nancy realized how much Angeline had on her shoulders and heaved a sigh heartbrokenly. “Be that as it may,
you’re not happy. Are you willing to sacrifice your bright future in the entertainment industry for that?”
Angeline lowered her head and laughed bitterly to herself. “Didn’t I enter the entertainment industry so that I could
strengthen myself and regain the shares that belong to me?”
Nancy didn’t know what to say in response when she saw how determined Angeline was. That’s right. The moment I
got her to sign the contract, she told me what she was truly after. However, she had been so carefree over the
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtyears, and she had never mentioned her past anymore. I thought she had already moved on, but she never did. All
her hard work was preparations for taking back her shares and her child.
With that in mind, Nancy felt bad for Angeline, who had to persevere and tolerate others over the past few years.
Nancy then reached out her arm and put it over Angeline’s shoulders.
“Okay. Do what you have to do. If you ever wish to come back, I’ll surely make you great again,” Nancy consoled.
Angeline felt a tinge of warmth in her heart when she heard those words. All these years, Nancy has been my ally
and my friend. Nothing’s ever going to separate us.
While they were conversing, they arrived at Angeline’s house. Upon bidding them farewell, Angeline walked back
home.
Since she was already home, she could finally relax. Feeling exhausted, she unlocked her door with her key.
Before switching on the lights in the living room, she saw that her bedroom lights were on, and she could faintly see
the lights shining through the crack of the door. What’s going on? Before I left, I made sure I switched off all the
lights.
Baffled, Angeline walked toward the bedroom. As soon as she pushed the bedroom door open, she saw a tall man
lying in her bed.
“Ah!” she shouted in fear. After that, she quickly picked up a bat she kept near the entrance and shielded herself
with it.
Shortly after, the man in her bed woke up and sat up straight. With a grim look on his face, he asked, “Angeline, you
still know your way home, huh?”
“E-Evander?” Angeline recognized him, and she was even more shocked to see him there compared to if she were
to see thieves. The bat in her hands fell to the ground, and she kept staring at him in disbelief. “When did you arrive
here? No… How did you get in?”
Evander wore the house slippers and ambled toward her with his hands in his pockets. While looking down at her,
he said, “Next time, don’t simply give away your spare keys.”
Angeline froze momentarily before realizing what was going on. Seeing that his eyes were filled with helplessness,
she explained, “I gave the keys to Floretta in case of emergency. What kind of father are you? Why did you go
through your daughter’s stuff?”
Evander snorted in response. “Don’t you remember how much that little girl wants us to get together?”
When Floretta got the keys, she gave them to Evander almost immediately. Evander took the keys from her as if it
was the right thing to do.
Upon hearing that, Angeline held her forehead and felt a gush of regret. I shouldn’t have given the keys to that girl.
“Still… Why did you come and find me all of a sudden?” Angeline asked curiously.
“I heard how capable you are.” Evander walked up to her while staring at her with his sharp gaze. In an indifferent
tone, he voiced, “Not only did your collaboration with Hanson work out fine, but you’ve also decided to clean up the
mess in Forrester Group. Am I right?”
Angeline was stunned when she heard that. “Did you spy on me?”
“I didn’t have to.”
Angeline merely twitched her lips helplessly in response. Evander is too good at collecting information. It hasn’t
even been five hours, and yet, he has already found out about everything I’ve done tonight.
As the thought crossed her mind, Angeline felt a chill running down her spine. Only then did she realize how scary
Evander was.
Suddenly, Evander grabbed her arm and pressed her against the wall. With his tense gaze, he asked, “Angeline,
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmstop beating around the bush. Why did you see your ex-fiancé? Are you trying to get back together with him?”
Undeniably, those words were harsh. Angeline couldn’t help but frown because he was hurting her arm.
“Have you missed me so dearly, Evander?” she asked.
Evander flashed a grin before whipping out his phone from his pocket and showing her something on his phone.
“Aren’t you going to explain yourself?” he asked.
Angeline was infuriated when she saw the photo he showed her.
The photo showed the scene where Hanson was giving her a packed meal. However, the photographer had an
ulterior motive, so he took the photo at an angle that made it look like Hanson was hugging Angeline.
“This is so unethical! How is this necessary?” she roared.
Angeline was so angry that she wanted to snatch the phone from Evander to take a closer look at the photo. In
response, he suddenly retreated.
Angeline lost her balance and fell into Evander’s embrace.
While squeezing Angeline’s chin, Evander stared at her sullenly and mocked, “Are you feeling guilty?”
“Why should I? The photo is making something out of nothing. I was merely at work…”
“Why should I trust you?”
The more she tried to explain herself, the angrier Evander became. Hence, the words that came out of his mouth
were getting harsher. “You’re a celebrity! Why are you discrediting yourself? Not only are you working with your ex-
fiancé, but you’ve also been photographed being intimate with him! The photos are now on the internet!”
Angeline couldn’t utter a word in response.
“Angeline, I’ve underestimated your resilience. I thought you would’ve already learned your lesson after going
through what happened at the bar.”
