That made Angeline jumped out of her skin and choke on the stew she had just slurped into her mouth. Turning
around to look at Evander, she flashed him a guilty smile.
“You’re back? Why did you enter the kitchen without saying anything? You startled me.”
Evander leaned against the wall with his arms across his chest. A smirk played around his lips.
“This is my house. I am, however, confused to see you here.”
Angeline cleared her throat awkwardly, then said in a servile tone, “I thought you were busy with work, so I didn’t
tell you in advance. Wash your hand. The meal is ready.”
Upon hearing her words, Evander raised his brows. “You made these?”
“That’s right, Mr. Golding.” Before Angeline could respond, Francesca entered the kitchen and beat her to it. “Ms.
Sorelle has been here since afternoon and busying herself until now. She wants to make beef stew for you.”
Evander’s stern expression eased up as he stared at the steaming hot pot on the stove. He gulped as if there were
a lump in his throat.
There was no denying that Angeline’s cooking skills were even more professional than that of five-star chefs.
He had been missing it for a long time because of this reason.
The man had thought that the woman focused only on Forrester Group. He didn’t expect her to have time to come
here and prepare him a meal.
Is she up to something?
“Okay. Be careful!”
Evander gave her a reminder. After that, he turned around and walked out of the kitchen without saying anything
harsh.
Angeline stared at his wide back, clutching the apron nervously and pacing back and forth in a state of panic.
Unable to figure out what Evander was feeling that day, Angeline was afraid that she might get into his bad books.
She wondered how she should bring the matter up in front of him later.
After simmering the beef stew for a while, Angeline turned off the stove and carried the pot to the dining room right
away.

With a bib on, Floretta was holding a Buffalo wing in one hand. When she heard Angeline, she couldn’t help but
think about the stew in the pot again.
“It smells so good. Let Daddy have the first mouth,” she said in a cute voice, flashing a sweet smile at Evander, who
was reading the newspaper at that moment. Two huge dimples appeared on her face.
Obviously, those words were taught by Francesca. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have said that herself.
“Good girl, Floretta.”
Angeline gave the girl a thumbs-up. Following that, she scooped a bowl of stew and cast a glance at Evander.
“Mr. Golding, try this beef stew. It’s good for the digestive system.”
“Thank you.”
Evander took the stew from her and took a sip gracefully. “It tastes good,” he praised unreservedly.
Angeline grinned happily. “I’m glad you enjoyed it. There’s still more in the pot. Please have some more.”
Floretta, who was chowing down the Buffalo wing, drooled at the sight. She tugged at Angeline’s apron with her
greasy hand and mumbled anxiously, “Angel, this is unfair. You only served the stew for Daddy. I-I want it, too.” She
pouted, looking upset.
“You’ll get it, too, little glutton.”
Angeline pinched the girl’s nose, then served her a bowl of stew.
The bitterness Floretta felt earlier was all gone the moment she received the yummy food.
Seeing that Evander had emptied the bowl, Angeline uttered cautiously, “Mr. Golding, let me serve you another
bowl.”
Evander nodded, handed the bowl over, and took a glance at her.
“What’s with the good mood today?”
“It’s all thanks to the breakfast you prepared. That’s so considerate of you. How can I be mad at you?”
“Have you gotten over it? Or is it because you need my help?”
Angeline was rendered speechless.
She couldn’t help but admire Evander’s perceptiveness. It was indeed extraordinary.
He could read her like a book.
She glanced at Francesca who was feeding Floretta and mulled over it for a while. In the end, she just cleared her
throat and smiled at him sheepishly.
“Why don’t we discuss it in detail in your study after you finish eating?”
Evander fell silent and focused on the stew he was relishing. There was not a single hint of sullenness on his
expression, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking.
Seeing that, Angeline could only sit down and eat with them. From time to time, she would study Evander’s
expression while having her meal absent-mindedly.
What are you thinking, Evander?
For some reason, she thought there was no big deal about asking him to become an investor.
After gulping down the stew, Evander slowly drew a piece of tissue to wipe the corners of his mouth. He cast a
glance at the unsettled Angeline and curled his lips into a smirk.
How can you be thinking about becoming the person in charge of a corporation if you can’t even brace yourself in
this situation?
No matter how successful Angeline was in the entertainment industry, it was different from the business world.
There was still a lot for her to learn.
“Pour me a cup of coffee and bring it to the study.”
Hearing that, Angeline was stunned. She watched Evander leave the dining room. It was after quite a while that she
finally regained her senses.
“Sure. Right away.”
Evander’s consent cheered Angeline up. She pressed her lips into a thin line, stifling her laughter.
My hard work didn’t go down the drain! As the old saying goes, cooking food for a man is a great way to win his
affection. Come to think of it, that truly makes sense.
Angeline asked Francesca about the type of coffee he usually drank. After brewing the coffee, she carefully carried

Knock! Knock!
She took a deep breath to compose herself before knocking on the door.
“Come in.”
When Angeline heard the deep voice coming from inside, she pushed open the door. She couldn’t take her eyes off
Evander as soon as her gaze landed on him. He was working diligently at his desk.
A man like him was undoubtedly hard for any woman to resist.
“What are you thinking at the door?”
Evander shot her a glance.
Angeline was so nervous that she swallowed a lump in her throat. She stepped forward and headed in Evander’s
direction.
“Just put it here.” Evander gave her a look, signaling her to put it on the desk.
“All right. The coffee is freshly brewed. It’s still hot. You can drink it in a while.” Angeline spoke with great concern.
After putting down the coffee, she remained in her spot and had no intention of leaving.
“Just tell me what you want. I don’t like people beating around the bush.”
Angeline froze. Her hand clutching the apron stopped moving.
Since he was so direct, Angeline figured she didn’t have to speak in riddles.
“Well, it’s just a trivial matter to you. Just so you know, I took over Forrester Group, which is currently a mess, and
got into a little trouble.”
As Angeline spoke, she held up her fingers, making a gesture to indicate that it was as small as a seed.
Evander couldn’t help but burst out laughing inwardly, impressed by the tricks she had up her sleeves.
He calmly picked up the cup without even looking up as if having small talk with her.
“All this time Forrester Group has been operating under an independent marketing model. Now that it’s at a loss, it’s
nothing but an empty shell at the moment. You want to get an investor to help you bear the expenses.”
Angeline fell silent.
She stared at him incredulously, wondering how he managed to guess everything.
