Evander was defenseless against Floretta’s begging.
Helplessly, he quirked his lips and watched as Angeline continued to pack up her things. He called out to her just as
the latter came out of the room carrying some boxes.
“Although the scandal has passed, the reporters won’t let you go so easily. I reckon you should continue to stay
here. We have plenty of room at the Golding residence anyway.”
“Mr. Golding, thank you for your concern, but the director has made arrangements for me to stay at a hotel nearby
the film set. It’s quite safe there.” Angeline smiled faintly, her tone distant.
Evander wrinkled his brows imperceptibly. “All right. I won’t stop you if that’s what you’ve decided.”
Stealing a glance at the anxious Floretta, Angeline pulled Evander to the side.
“Mr. Golding, I know you’re usually busy with work, but Floretta is already six years old, yet the only person she
comes in contact with regularly is Francesca. She needs companions her age. Why not send her to a kindergarten?”
Her words caused Evander’s face to darken.
Angeline hurriedly added, “I know you’re worried about the ruckus that will ensue if Floretta’s identity is revealed.
However, you can’t keep her caged forever.”
“Mind your own business.” Having said that, Evander shoved his hand into his pocket and went downstairs.
Pouting, Angeline stared after his retreating figure. If it wasn’t for Floretta’s sake, I wouldn’t even bother saying this
to you!
Just then, she felt a weight on her leg. Floretta had latched onto her leg and refused to let go.
“Angel, won’t you stay? Daddy already agreed to it. You promised to teach me how to make a pretty dress for my
doll. Are you going to break that promise?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAngeline caressed Floretta’s head softly and felt her heart aching as she looked at the girl’s red-rimmed eyes.
She squatted down and took out an exquisite handmade doll with an embroidered purple orchid on its head from
her bag.
“Floretta, I know you want for nothing. I made this doll myself. I hope you’ll be like the doll and be happy always.”
“Wow!” Floretta exclaimed as she set aside the toy she had been holding and accepted the doll. Her eyes were
filled with surprise. “Angel, you’re amazing! You can do anything!”
She then turned around and immediately ran downstairs to show off her new doll to Francesca, who was currently
tidying up the living room.
Francesca watched the excited little girl a little helplessly. “Be careful not to trip! The floor is slippery.”
Not heeding her words, Floretta jumped higher and stepped onto a wet patch. Her foot slipped before her entire
body tipped forward.
Just then, Evander managed to grab Floretta’s arm. With a heave of his shoulders, he cradled Floretta in his arms.
Ignoring Evander’s expression, Floretta smiled brilliantly as she showed off her doll. “Daddy, look at my cute doll!
What shall I name it?”
“It’s ugly.”
Evander’s face was filled with distaste. He had no idea why the little girl was so overjoyed. She has a pile of dolls
gathering dust in a corner that I’ve never seen her play with. What’s so special about this one?
“Silly Daddy, you don’t get it!” Floretta yelled. She scrambled out of his arms and silently went to the couch.
Angeline had seen the entire scene play out from the second floor. Although she smiled warmly, she could not help
the twinge of worry that surged in her heart.
Floretta immediately grew attached to the doll because she doesn’t have a sense of security. Moreover, she doesn’t
get to play with other kids her age. Thus, she’ll grow attached to anyone who shows her the slightest bit of
affection. It’s good for a child to be innocent, but it’s not good for them to be so unguarded.
Angeline’s right eyelid started twitching at the thought, and a sense of foreboding rose. I hope I’m overthinking it.
As it was getting late, Angeline could only steel her heart and bid Floretta goodbye.
She exited the Golding residence to see the driver Nancy had sent waiting at the entrance.
The driver briskly got out of the car and opened the door for Angeline.
Soon, the car started, and they drove out of the mansion and headed toward the location of the film set.
Just then, the phone in Angeline’s bag rang. She took it out and saw that the caller was Jonathan.
After a moment of thought, she answered the call. “Hello?”
“Did you see Joseline’s man when you visited Willowbank?” Jonathan’s wicked voice sounded from the other end of
the line. He had probably just woken up, for his voice was lazy.
“How did you know?” Angeline was surprised.
Though, I guess it won’t be out of character for Jonathan to send someone to investigate.
“What do you plan to do about it?” Jonathan asked.
Angeline’s eyes darkened at his words. Her hand, which had been resting on her thigh, clenched into a fist.
“Do you actually need my opinion on this? I’m assuming you already have something in mind since you’re calling
me.”
She could hear Jonathan’s laughter from the phone. “You’re a smart one,” he said.
Following that, his tone shifted, and his low voice carried an eerie coldness.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Don’t you think it’s more exciting if we let Joseline give birth, only for Hanson to find out later that the woman he
tolerated for months had given birth to someone else’s child?”
That’s an understatement. It won’t just be exciting; someone may even get killed! Hanson absolutely hates traitors.
Angeline’s heart thudded heavily. Gulping, she asked, “What if the child in Joseline’s belly belongs to Hanson?”
“That’s not possible.” Jonathan’s tone was confident. After saying that, he hung up the phone.
Angeline’s face had gone pale, and a sheen of sweat had formed on the hand that was holding the phone.
She was well aware of Jonathan’s methods. Each and every step was precise and meticulous. It was as if everything
happened according to his plan.
How deep is his hatred of Hanson to do such a thing?
Ding dong!
Suddenly, the message tone sounded from Angeline’s phone.
Angeline realized that her hand was trembling as she tapped on the message from Jonathan.
His text message read: Since you helped me, I have a present for you. I’m sure you’ll find it useful.
Following that, she received several photos from Jonathan that showed a scantily clad woman in a bar. She was
serving a group of older men.
Zooming in, Angeline spotted several bigshots from the film industry.
In one of the photos, an older man had his pudgy hand stretched out toward the woman, who was none other than
Denise!
Angeline’s eyes grew cold as she took in the details in the photo. Smiling contemptuously, she forwarded the
pictures to Nancy.
There were countless women who crawled into the higher-up’s beds in the entertainment industry, and the person
who held evidence of such affairs wielded the power to influence things.
Soon, Angeline arrived at the film set for The Journey. The director and his assistant, who were waiting for her at
the entrance of the hotel, brought her to the prepared room upon her arrival.
