Chapter 565 Dillon had always planned on leaving Casper and starting fresh once he got back from Africa. But when things went sideways in Casper, his plans went out the window. "Nah," he replied, trying to sound casual.
"You should find someone special, too," she said, giving his shoulder a friendly pat. There was a bit of weight to her words. "Don't aim too high. Steer clear of older women who might cling to you. Look for a sweet, down-to- earth girl and settle down. It's a good life." She was talking about herself when she mentioned the older women. Dillon picked up on the subtext. His expression softened a bit, "Love's not about age, you know." "Age might not matter, but older women who haven't settled down might latch onto you. Younger gals, they're different-simple and sincere. If you find one, treasure her." Caroline took another swig of her drink, too fast, and ended up coughing. Dillon quickly handed her a tissue. "Told you to take it easy with those drinks." "I'm alright." She dabbed at her lips with the tissue. "Why don't you have a drink, too?" "I think I'll head out," Dillon said, standing up, his demeanor still distant.

Dillon caught her around the waist to steady her. "Watch your step." "I'm fine. You take care on your way back." Caroline, a little tipsy, gave him a warm smile. "And thanks for today. I'll pay back the three hundred thousand soon." "No need," he said.
Caroline paused, surprised. No need to pay back? She didn't want to owe him. "What's that supposed to mean? Dillon, are you really that loaded? It's three hundred thousand we're talking about, not just pocket change." He knew she didn't think much of him. Whether it was three hundred thousand or just three hundred, she'd always make sure everything was squared away. "Whatever." "What do you mean, 'whatever'?" Caroline, not happy with his response, grabbed Dillon's arm. The alcohol made her sway a bit. "What's going on, Dillon?" "Nothing," he replied, his tone as cool as ever.
Caroline hated how detached he was with her. You'd think he respected her, but he never really looked her in the eye. Yet, he always kept this polite distance, like they were strangers. en "What's the deal with your 'nothing'?" she pressed, holding onto his shirt, wanting a straight answer. "Do you have a problem with me? I know you don't think much ofanymore. I'm not young or pretty now, but do you have to make it so obvious? It hurts." Dillon: ...??? He didn't think much of her? Clearly, it was the other way around.
"You're drunk, go rest," he said, trying to guide her inside.
She resisted, staying put. "Explain yourself." "You need sleep," he insisted. Not wanting to argue over something so trivial, he scooped her up.

Caroline gasped as he lifted her, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck "What are you his necke m doing? I don't need you to look after me." "You're not a kid. Quit making a scene," he said, carrying her upstairs. She squirmed in his hold. "Who do you think you are, Dillon, to tellwhat to do?"
He carried her into the bedroom and laid her on the bed with a firm but bed with a gentle motion motion. "I get it, I'm not worth much,
Caroline. You don't have to keep reminding me. Yeah, I'm not good never was. I'm the toad, you're the swan. n: We're not meant for each other. I enough for you. Ought never dreamed of anything happening between us, so don't worry."
