Chapter 107
Marilla dozed off peacefully in Jareth’s arms, her hand clutching his shirt, her eyelashes fluttering like a
celestial being that just came to earth. Jareth lowered his gaze onto her flushed face, the memory of
that chaotic yet innocent kiss causing a whirlwind of emotions within him.
But he was a seasoned man, and he quickly regained his composure.
When he turned his gaze back to Glynnis, his eyes were as sharp as a hawk’s.
“Miss Glynnis, you sure you want to leave now? You’ll miss all the fun,” he teased.
“I need to use the restroom,” Glynnis stammered, sweat trickling down her forehead and her heart
pounding like a drum.
“You can go after we finish here.”
Jareth held Marilla even closer, making his way towards Evadne and Thaddeus.
As he pa**ed by Glynnis, she was stunned to see red blotches all over the elegant neck peeking out
from his shirt collar.
Glynnis stiffened, her mind in a complete mess!
If Jareth wasn’t drugged, then where did these conspicuous “blobs” come from?
Right then, Marilla seemed to have a nightmare, whimpering in Jareth’s arms.
Glynnis’s heart pounded faster, her vision going dark.
Could it be Marilla was the one who got drugged? Did Marilla and Jareth do something?!
What a disaster! That silly girl got the upper hand!
“Marilla!” Evadne and Thaddeus exclaimed in unison.
“What happened to Marilla?!” Hamiltion hadn’t seen Marilla all night and was worried sick to see her in
Jareth’s arms.
Frederic and Elspeth were equally startled, their hearts pounding.
“Mr. Hamiltion, Thad, don’t worry. Marilla is fine. I have lots of experience,” Jareth rea**ured them,
taking a deep breath.
“Experience?” Thaddeus frowned, muttering. “Jareth, if you used your ‘experience’ on Marilla, I won’t
let you off the h ook!”
“Oh, come on, you’re treating me like I’m the big bad wolf here,” Jareth coughed awkwardly, his eyes
flickering.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEvadne noticed the red marks on his neck; her eyes darkened, but she remained silent.
“What happened? Tell us!” Frederic demanded anxiously.
Taking a deep breath, Jareth said coldly, “Marilla was drugged. I found her in the shrubs in the
backyard, and the drug had already taken effect. It was urgent. I made her drink lots of water and gave
her some antidote. She’s stable now and will be fine after a good sleep.”
Everyone was stunned!
Elspeth and Acacia turned pale as sheets!
“What? Marilla too?” Hamiltion trembled, barely able to stand.
“Calm down! Mr. Murray! Help Mr. Hamiltion!” Frederic and Mr. Murray rushed to a**ist Hamiltion.
“Mr. Hamiltion!” Evadne also came forward, concerned about his health.
Emeric sneered, feeling jealous when Evadne was so caring towards someone else.
“The situation is clear now.”
Evadne’s piercing gaze darted between Glynnis and Acacia.
“Only Mr. Thaddeus and Mr. Jareth were with Cas sius then, and Cas sius was the only one who got
drugged at the table. However, another person, Marilla, who was absent from the banquet the whole
night, also got drugged. Obviously, the drink Marilla had was supposed to be served with Cas sius’s.
But Marilla mistakenly took it, which has led to
the current situation.”
Thaddeus and Jareth both looked at Evadne with admiration.
Her quick thinking and clear reasoning had brought them a step closer to the truth!
“So, who was the drink supposed to be for? Mr. Thaddeus? Surely, the Abernathy family wouldn’t drug
their own at their banquet?”
With one casual sentence, Evadne turned everyone’s attention onto Jareth!
Jareth pursed his lips, his eyes suddenly turning icy cold.
He despised these dirty tricks most, and he didn’t expect someone to dare use them against him at Mr.
Hamiltion’s birthday banquet!
This was too much!
“First, arrest the involved maid.” Thaddeus’ enraged eyes were as sharp as a knife, “Bring her here,
and I will interrogate her. Tonight, nobody leaves until we clear up this mess for Miss Evadne.”
Evadne was taken aback, looking incredulously at Thaddeus’ resolute profile.
He turned to look at her, their eyes met, and a wave of emotion surged within them both.
“Thaddeus! What do you mean by this? Are you imprisoning us? Are we suspects?” Elspeth, fearing
that things might get out of hand, vehemently objected.
“Elspeth, you’re overreacting. I just need your cooperation to root out the traitor in our family.”
Thaddeus’ eyes were profound, even more intimidating than Frederic, the head of the family. “If you
have nothing to hide, you shouldn’t have any objections, right?”
“Right!” Hamiltion calmed down and said angrily. “Such a disgraceful incident happened. The
Abernathy family can’t tolerate it! We must get to the bottom of this! We owe it to Marilla and Mr. Cas
sius!”
Glynnis was so nervous her teeth were chattering, and Elspeth was speechless at this rebuttal.

Chapter 107
Right then, Gordon came in with two black-clad bodyguards, dragging the maid.
With a flick of his hand, the maid stumbled and fell right in front of everyone.
“Thank Go d you were quick on your feet, boss. I got the crew to pull up the surveillance footage and
locked down the front and back doors. We caught this lady trying to sneak out through the doggy door
in the backyard. Just like that, we got her red-handed!”
Evadne was taken aback.
When did this guy realize something was off? His response was lightning-fast!
“Heh, she’s ratting herself out!” Jareth shot the maid a stern look, his eyes icy. “You want to prove your
innocence? Do good people run away?”
“We need to interrogate her.” Thaddeus said, his gaze as cold as a glacier. “I want the mastermind
behind all this.”
“Mr. Thaddeus, I had an emergency at home and needed to leave, but all the doors were locked. I had
no choice but to crawl out the back garden. I really didn’t do anything. I have no idea what’s going on!”
The maid stammered.
“I remember you were the one who brought us the drinks,” Jareth pointed out.
“And you were the one who told me to go take care of Cas sius in his room.” Evadne said coldly.
“Mr. Thaddeus, I’ve checked the surveillance footage. From the pantry to the banquet hall, no one
interacted with her, which means aside from her, no one else touched your drinks,” Gordon added,
piling on the suspicion.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“But that doesn’t prove that I drugged your drinks!” The maid broke out in a cold sweat, struggling
desperately.
“Oh? That’s strange.” Evadne tilted her head and blinked. “We didn’t say what happened, so how did
you know we suspect someone spi king the drinks?”
Everyone’s gaze turned complex, their suspicions aimed at the maid like sharp arrows.
“I overheard when I first got here.” The maid’s face turned as red as a beet.
“You have very sharp ears, don’t you?” Gordon sneered, pulling up the surveillance footage on his
phone and handing it to Thaddeus. “Mr. Thaddeus, as you instructed, I checked all of this woman’s
movements on the surveillance. She didn’t drug the drinks.”
The maid let out a sigh of relief, as did Glynnis.
“But, I found this.”
Thaddeus took the phone, and Evadne leaned in curiously to see.
Thaddeus instinctively leaned towards her. Suddenly.
Their foreheads bumped together. Both of them looked up at the same time. Evadne was startled by
Thaddeus’ intense gaze and looked down.
Thaddeus felt a flutter in his heart, and his pulse quickened.
The screen clearly showed the maid looking around nervously by the trash bin in the backyard before
tossing away a vial.
“She intentionally avoided the cameras on the street, but there was one hidden by the dense foliage in
the backyard that she overlooked. It captured her discarding evidence.”
Gordon snickered, “Talk about a hole in the net!”
“No, that’s not it! I only threw away my own medicine, just regular painkillers! Not any kind of sleeping
pills!” The maid desperately defended herself, backed into a corner.
“Did you bring the evidence?” Thaddeus asked co olly, ignoring her.
“Yes, sir!”
Gordon pulled a couple of vials from his pocket, carefully sealed them in a plastic bag, and handed
them over.
Thaddeus shook the bag slightly. “There’s still residue in these vials. Take them to the hospital for
testing right away. If it’s not painkillers, take this woman to the police station immediately for serious
processing!”
Seeing that there’s no way out, the maid cried and knelt before Thaddeus.
“Mr. Thaddeus! Please forgive me! I didn’t want to drug you.I was forced.” She suddenly turned around
and pointed at Glynnis. “It was Glynnis! Glynnis made me do it!”
