Chapter 255
This was a new experience for Nydia, being held by a man in such a way. She blushed and struggled in
Cedric’s arms.
Her legs felt weak but she managed to place her hands against his chest, trying to push him away.
“Oh? Only my little brother gets to hold you? Do you have a crush on him?” Cedric’s dark eyes traced
the contours of Nydia’s lovely face.
The flush creeping up, her forehead glistening with a slight sheen of sweat, the enticing blush of her
cheeks, all combined to present an image of Innocence and allure that made him want to tease her.
Emeric’s family was known for their exceptional genes. Each of his wives had their own unique beauty.
But the one who stood out the most was Myra.
And Nydia had inherited her mother’s stunning beauty, her skin glowing with youthful vitality.
Cedric was a normal man. His heart fluttered at the sight of a beautiful woman.
“No, that’s not it.” Nydia’s face turned even redder.
“Then let me take you back to rest.” His hand around her slender waist didn’t loosen its grip.
‘No, Mr. Cedric. I can manage on my own.”
“You can barely stand. Don’t push yourself.”
Cedric leaned in closer, his face near hers, close enough to kiss. If it weren’t for Nydia’s hands on his
chest, their bodies would have been pressed together. “When we were kids, it wasn’t just Jason who
saw you. You don’t need to be so formal with me. Just call me Cedric.”
“Miss Nydia!”
A worried shout snapped Nydia back to reality.
If Jason hadn’t arrived when he did, Cedric might have taken advantage of the situation. He was so
close to stealing a kiss! His little brother was always ruining things!
Cedric quickly composed his face into a mask of Innocence and helped Nydia steady herself. His cold
gaze settled on Jason.
“Miss Nydia, why are you with my brother?” Jason’s voice wavered, his eyes filled with concern..
He had seen Nydia in Cedric’s arms, their bodies pressed against each other. From his angle, it looked
like Cedric was about to kiss her and she wasn’t resisting.
He felt a lump in his throat, as if it was stuffed with cotton.
Nydia’s heart fluttered. She rubbed her eyes.
“Miss Nydia, answer me!” Jason was frantic, quickly stepping forward.
Cedric’s gaze darkened as he stepped in front of a pale–faced Nydia, “Miss Nydia got drunk and nearly
fell. I happened to be there and helped her. Is there a problem?”
“Did you really just want to help her?” Jason gritted his teeth.
Remembering Cedric’s lustful gaze when he looked at Nydia, his heart clenched.
“What are you implying? You’re making it sound like I’m a beast in gentleman’s clothing.”
Cedric laughed mockingly, as if deeply wronged, “I’m a lawyer. I know the law. This is Miss Nydia’s
home, and the Ashbourne family is here. What could I possibly do? Unlike you, you’re already
Chairman Emeric’s godson, and Miss Evadne’s favorite. You can do whatever you want. I’ll take care of
Miss Nydia, you go serve your young mistress.”
Having said that, Cedric turned back and looked at Nydia with deep affection.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJason was so angry he couldn’t even call his brother. His eyes were bloodshot, his fingers clenched.
“Cedric.”
Seeing the two brothers about to argue in front of her, Nydia could only weakly call Cedric, “I’m fine
now, I’ve sobered up. Let’s go to the front hall
“Alright, I’ll go with you.”
Just as they were about to leave, Jason couldn’t stand it anymore. His eyes red, he rushed over and
grabbed Nydia’s delicate wrist.
“Ah.” Nydia felt as if her wrist was being crushed by his grip. She winced in pain.
“Miss Nydia, come with me.”
Jason pulled her to his side, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, forcing her to follow him.
Nydia was upset: She always kept her head down in front of him, tears glistening in her eyes.
She didn’t want to go with him, but she couldn’t deceive her heart that wanted to be with him.
What should she do?
She still liked Jason so much.
Cedric didn’t go after them, He wouldn’t do anything that would damage his reputation for a woman.
Looking at the backs of Jason and Nydia, a perfect match, and remembering Jason’s red eyes when he
fought for her, Cedric suddenly realized something. A sinister smile played on his lips, “If you can be
Chairman Emeric’s godson, why can’t I be President Ashbourne’s son–in–law?”
Jason took Nydia back to her room and closed the door firmly behind them..
“Ugh, I feel really sick” Nydia fell back onto the couch, her chest rising and falling with her labored
breaths.
She had sobered up a little, but the commotion had made her head spin again.
Jason had been holding back his anger, but seeing her discomfort, he felt it dissipate.
“Why did you drink so much? You know you can’t handle alcohol”
Jason sighed and shook his head. He quickly poured a glass of water and handed it to her, “Miss
Nydia, sit up and drink some water.”
1 don’t want to I don’t feel like drinking”
Nydia turned her body away, her voice filled with resentment, “Just go. I want to rest.”
“But you can’t sleep here. You’ll catch a cold”
“I don’t need your concern. Go take care of my sister!” Nydia curled up, shouting at him in a fit of pique.
Jason froze, a dull pain throbbing in his chest.
Then, he picked Nydia up and carried her to the bedroom without another word.
“Um. Jason, put me down!” Nydia’s heart was thumping wildly.
Her legs dangled freely, and her fluffy slippers fell to the floor, revealing a pair of delicate adorable little
feet.
Upon hearing the noise, Jason instinctively looked down,
The sight of Nydia’s pale dainty feet hit him like a blow, making him feel as if he was committing a sin.
He hurriedly averted his gaze, his mouth dry, heart pounding erratically. Jason gently laid Nydia on the
bed, tucking her in comfortably.
“Miss Nydia. Good night.”
Nydia, in a drunken daze, grabbed Jason’s hand tightly. She summoned a strange strength from within,
pulling Jason off balance and causing him to fall on top of her!
At that moment, his chest was against her soft bosom. Their noses touched.
His lips were kissing her soft tender ones.
“Um.” Nydia, with her eyes half–closed and under the weight of Jason, curled her toes in
embarrassment.
Their lips met, and Jason widened his eyes shockingly. His body trembled, and his blood rushed like a
raging tide.
It was so sweet.
Just like tasting a sweet delicacy.
Nydia slowly lost consciousness, her arms wrapped around Jason’s neck, deepening the kiss.
Outside the window, the night was soft and soothing. The crescent moon seemed to be smiling slyly at
them.
The dinner ended on an uneasy note, thanks to Cedric.
The Dempsey family had come in three cars. On the way back, Dave said coldly, “Jason, you ride with
your mother. I need to speak with Cedric.”
Cedric grimaced and followed his father into the car.
Jason rode with his mother in the back seat, and Ivan sat in the passenger seat.
Under the car’s interior light, Mrs. Dempsey noticed Jason’s flushed cheeks, vacant eyes, and rapid
breathing.
“Jason, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Do you have a fever?” Mrs. Dempsey was always
worried about her youngest son.
“Huh? Mom, what did you say?” Jason, still in a daze, had a vacant look in his eyes.
It seemed like he still hadn’t recovered from the kiss earlier in the night.
“Jason, why is your face so red?”
Ivan looked at him through the rearview mirror, teasing, “Is it because you kissed your first love? I
remember my face was just as red the first time I kissed mine.”
“Ivan, don’t talk nonsense.”
Jason coughed lightly, his face reddening even more. “Mom, I’m fine, don’t worry. And tomorrow
morning, I’ll pick up Miss Nydia and head back to Elmsworth. My holiday is over, and it’s time for me to
get back to work.”
Mrs. Dempsey remembered her beloved son humbly cleaning Evadne’s feet in front of everyone. It
made her uncomfortable. “Jason, why did you leave a promising job as President‘ Ashbourne’s
secretary to work for Miss Evadne? The Ashbourne family fortune will still go to the eldest son, won’t
it?”
“Mom, haven’t you been keeping up with the news? Miss Evadne is quite the celebrity in Elmsworth.
She’s been given the nickname Vest Billionaire‘. I think she’s as competent as President Ashbourne.”
Ivan couldn’t help but chime in.
“All because her father is Emeric. She can do whatever she wants without any restraints!” Mrs.
Dempsey was a bit resentful.
“Mom, Miss Evadne treats me very well. I’m happy and satisfied working for her.”
Jason grabbed Mrs. Dempsey’s hand, his gaze intense and passionate. “The most important thing is,
she needs me. No matter how hard it gets, I’ll stay by her side. Unless she doesn’t want me anymore.”
Mrs. Dempsey was taken aback, feeling as if her son had abandoned her for the woman he loved.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIvan could hardly believe his brother’s words, which sounded almost like a declaration of love for
Evadne.
“Son, do you think Evadne reciprocates your feelings?”
Mrs. Dempsey believed that her son had been bewitched by Evadne’s beauty. She felt an urgent need
to save him from this “fire pit.” “You are our pride and joy, Jason! Look at what you’ve been doing since
you’ve been with Evadne! Even If our family owes the Ashbournes, Evadne can’t disrespect you like
this!”
Seeing that his mother was on the verge of tears, Jason hugged her.
“Mom, you’re overthinking it. Miss Evadne is a really good person. She’s never asked anything of me.
Everything I’ve done for her, I’ve done willingly.”
Meanwhile, in another car, the atmosphere was no less tense.
“From now on, don’t mess with the Ashbournes!” Dave scolded sternly. “I’ve taught you not to forget
your roots, and not to be ungrateful! Besides, money isn’t everything, You’re already a billionaire. What
more do you want? Why are you trying to get involved with the Abernathy Group and make trouble for
the Ashbournes?”
“What did I do wrong? It’s the Ashbournes who are overbearing and aggressive!”
Cedric, still bitter about the humiliation he had suffered that evening, gritted his teeth in anger. “Evadne
must have tattled to Emeric. He’s trying to take over my law firm by buying into Pinnacle Ventures!
won’t let that girl win. I won’t sit and wait for disaster. I’ll make sure Evadne stumbles and falls!”
“You’re still not seeing reason!”
Dave’s face turned red with fury, and he slapped Cedric, “I’m your father, and everything I say is for
your own good! Do you think the Ashbournes are like the Abernathys, all smiles on the surface but
each with their own twisted agenda? That you can stir up trouble within their ranks? No one knows
better than me how united and close–knit the Ashbourne family is! If you provoke the Ashbournes, all
you’ll get is ruin and a one–way ticket to disaster!”
Cedric still felt defiant, thinking that his father was just fear–mongering.
“Don’t get us and your two brothers in trouble!”
After resolving his internal conflict, Jason returned to his work with Evadne.
Although his first love had ended in such a melancholic and helpless way, it helped him clear up a
matter that had been bothering him for years.
However, there was one thing he couldn’t get out of his mind.
It was that night when Nydia, in her drunken confusion, had imprinted a deep kiss on his lips…
“Jason? Jason? The pan is burning!”
Evadne shouted, pulling Jason back from his deep thoughts. He realized that the frying pan in front of
him was emitting black smoke!
“Oh no!”
Jason hastily turned off the heat and threw the burnt frying pan into the sink.
“What’s wrong with you? You’ve been so distracted these past few days, has a banshee taken over
you?”
Evadne hurried over, her first concern was to check on Jason, ensuring he wasn’t injured.
“Sorry, Miss Evadne. I guess I just didn’t get enough rest. I’ll make you another one.”
Jason’s heart was racing. He was about to clean the pan when Evadne stopped him, “No need, we’re
running out of time. Let’s just eat out at a restaurant. By the way, take me to Misty Mountain Park this
afternoon. I need to meet with Professor Leo.“.
