Chapter 562
The words “we” formed an impassable chasm between Avery and Evadne and Thaddeus, a
gap that seemed as vast as the Grand Canyon itself, one he knew he could never bridge.
Yet, even so, Avery’s gaze towards Evadne was still filled with longing and affection.
His obsessive love had turned him into a shameless madman.
“Evadne, you’ve got me all wrong. But since you doubt me, I’m willing to cooperate fully.”
With that, Avery bent down to gently take his mother’s hand in his and caress it softly,
“Mom, I’m sorry, looks like I can’t take that road trip with you after all.”
“It’s okay, honey, I’m alright.”
Mrs. Chambers‘ worried eyes turned towards Evadne, her voice urgent and tearful,
“Evadne, please don’t be mad at Ave! If he’s upset you, I apologize on his behalf!”
Evadne felt a tightness in her chest, “Mrs. Chambers, please don’t say that.”
Though Avery was unrepentant and cunning, Mrs. Chambers was a pitiable woman, and
moreover, she was gravely ill. Evadne did not wish to have a heated confrontation with
Avery in her presence.
After all, this woman who had been abandoned by her husband and exiled for fifteen long
years, had only her son Avery as her beacon of hope.
She didn’t want to extinguish the flame that kept Mrs. Chambers clinging to life right in
front of her.
“When you were kids, you were the best of friends. You used to come over to play with
Ave all the time, and he was so fond of you.”
“Mom, please stop,” Avery interjected gently, his eyes filled with helplessness.
Thaddeus watched the tender scene between mother and son, his eyes drooping heavily
as a sharp pang of jealousy gripped his heart.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtYes, he was utterly envious.
Thaddeus couldn’t understand why Avery, who had such a precious mother by his side,
someone who loved him so dearly, still chose to walk down a dark path. Why was his heart
so filled with shadows?
What he carelessly trampled upon was what Thaddeus could only dream of having. The
more he thought about it, the less forgivable he found Avery!
“Evadne, I’m begging you, no matter what, don’t stay mad at Ave. And please, don’t
ignore him, will you?” Mrs. Chambers‘ speech became slurred as her illness flared up.
“Harvey, get the medicine.” Avery, full of concern, immediately ordered.
“Right away, Mr. Chambers!”
“Evadne, no matter what suspicions you have about me, whatever harsh words you say, I
won’t blame you. Because you and my mother, you’re both the people I care about the
most.”
Avery looked at her pleadingly, his voice hoarse with a trace of hurt, “But what if things
don’t go your way, if you’ve wronged me. Evadne, how will you make it up to me?”
Evadne’s brows furrowed tightly, a strange sense of unease took hold of her.
Why was he so calm?
Was he so confident because he was fearless, or did he have an ace up his sleeve?
Suddenly, urgent calls from her brothers broke the tension, “Evadne!”
Followed by Thaddeus‘ friend Jareth, “Thad!”
The couple turned, “Cassius, Aaron!”
Right then, Avery’s lips curled into an almost imperceptible sneer.
Cassius‘ gaze was sharp, filled with hidden rage as he glared at the deceitful man.
Aaron’s expression was dark, his voice low, “Just now, a helicopter took off from
Elmsworth’s Misty Mountain Park. As it was about to clear Elmsworth and cross into Skyrim
airspace, it exploded!”

“Exploded?” Evadne and Thaddeus‘ eyes widened in shock.
“Yes, residents within a ten–mile radius heard the massive blast,” Aaron took a deep
breath, “That helicopter was obliterated on the spot. No survivors probably!”
Thaddeus felt his heart drop, his eagle–like gaze swiftly turning towards Avery.
They had just uncovered Eden’s whereabouts and were closing in when Snakey Avery
interfered, followed by the helicopter explosion!
All the pieces seemed to fall into Avery’s plan.
“No survivors, can we confirm the owner of the helicopter? Can we identify how many
people were on board, and their identities?” Evadne asked frantically, her gaze intense.
Aaron turned away, whispering close to Evadne, “I’ve already sent people to check the
helicopter’s details and requested surveillance footage from the route and nearby areas.
We should have answers soon.”
“I think, it could only be Eden.”
Thaddeus‘ face was as cold as frost, his voice hoarse with suppressed anger, “Avery’s
playing mind games with us, a classic bait and switch, and now a diversion! He must have
known we’d track his purchase of the private jet and his plan to use it to escape with
Eden. His sudden appearance at the airport was meant to draw our focus, to cover for
Eden. In fact, from the start, he never intended to let Eden leave Elmsworth on that
plane!”
“Damn it! This son of a bitch is a real bastard!” Jareth cursed loudly, a sentiment Avery
was surely delighted to hear.
“No, it’s not that.”
Evadne closed her eyes, rage burning within her, “He never planned for Eden to leave
Elmsworth alive! If I’m not mistaken, that private jet was meant to be Eden’s hearse. We
just happened to find out, and since Eden’s location was exposed, that’s why he had

The room fell into a suffocating silence.
This time, they had to admit-
For every clever move they made, Avery’s schemes were a step ahead.
“Captain Ashbourne, if you don’t need me for questioning, may I leave now?” Avery
adjusted his glasses, a cold smile playing on his lips, “I think you all might want to stop
wasting time on me and start figuring out how to handle the mess that’s coming.”
The internet was abuzz with news of the plane explosion tonight. “Captain Ashbourne,
aren’t you going to call HQ to manage the public’s reaction?” someone urged, their voice
laced with concern.
Aaron clenched his jaw so tightly it creaked in protest. The venomous nature of Avery was
becoming too rampant to ignore.
Avery cast a meaningful glance at Evadne before turning on his heel, gracefully pushing
his mother’s wheelchair toward the boarding ramp.
Just as their group embarked on the plane, Aaron’s phone buzzed with a message from a
colleague.
“We’re pretty certain now. The ones who boarded that helicopter were indeed Eden and
his cronies. Street cams caught their movements, and HQ has dispatched additional
teams. Our guys are scouring the crash site for any remnants of the aircraft. We might
have more updates later on.”
Before Aaron could finish, Evadne whirled around-
F
Thaddeus reached out to grab her, but he was a step too late. “Evadne! Where are you
going?”
“Evadne! Come back!”
But Evadne didn’t look back, her figure sprinting towards Avery’s private jet like a bat out
of hell.
