Mike chuckled. “You're not that dumb after all.”
“You're experimenting on human beings?” Austin's voice broke from the shock. He had guessed so but still found it hard to believe.
‘No one in their right mind would conduct experiments on living humans in the modern era. International organizations would
condemn this inhumane cragainst humanity.
‘Nothing would ever be tried out on living humans in the nof medical discovery or innovation. Just who the f*ck are these
people? | didn't even realize it after working with them for so long.”
Mike didn't respond but instead stared at him coldly. His eyes behind the glasses were unfathomable, and one could not guess

“What are you looking at? Have | said anything wrong? If you guys are experimenting on human beings, then you're animals! No,
you're worse than animals! You... you...”
Austin wanted to continue his tirade but found that he could not. His throat felt like it was being rolled around in hot oil, and he
could not stop it. His heart pumped so fast that it seemed about to leap out of his chest.
In all the years he had been a doctor, he had never felt something so strange and awful. More accurately, he had never met a
patient with such an illness.
His suffering and struggle went on. The pain cand went repeatedly for a long tbefore it eventually died down.
He had sweated all over and had no energy even to speak. As if he had already died, he stared lethargically and wide-eyed at the
ceiling, unable to say a single word.
Having completed his task, Mike stopped writing and pushed his glasses back up his nose. “Your meal is on the table. Eat later.”
He then went out.
Austin lay still, not thinking about anything, as if he were no longer alive.
Having left the room, Mike took a few steps and pressed the elevator button. The elevator went down to Basement Level 3, and he

seen.
However, he did not go in and turned around at a corner to enter a room.
“Sir,” he called.
The small man jumped off the chair. “What took you so long?”
“It took him a long tto respond to the drug, so | waited for a while,” Mike said, handing over the notebook.
Taking it, the man read a few pages impatiently and frowned. “This is all you got?”
