Chapter 198 - Not Lecia
"What?" Tristan furrowed his brows.
Looks like my words have once again bamboozled him; he simply cannot wrap his head around what I just said.
People would laugh and spit in my face if told that this was the guy I was having an intellectual conversation with just seconds ago.
Is he suffering from dissociative personality disorder or what?
Rather than the mentally unstable members of the New Dawn Guild, he's the one who needs my therapy the most.
F.
"What?" I asked in return.
Let's first determine what this wanker is actually confused about.
"What do you mean you expected it?"
Ah, so that's what he could not understand. The words themselves were self-explanatory though.
Or is it that even though he understood the meaning of every individual word, he cannot quite grasp the meaning of the sentence formed through them, probably because he doesn't want to.
"I mean what the words say. The moment you called me delusional and said that I could not possibly take on the Organisation alone, I knew that it was nothing more than a sales pitch on why I should go and protect someone you care about. Turns out, it was your daughter."
The Hero kills the Villain then joins hands with his/her/its daughter to defeat the ultimate villain.
Over time, as they fight for their life side by side and leave their lives in each other's hands despite not wanting to, they- to their chagrin- learn that the other is not as bad as they thought them to be.
Slowly yet surely, the trust between them continues deepening while their mutual hatred dissipates.
Then in a sudden desperate situation that came out of nowhere, one of them puts their life on the line for the other even though doing so had no tactical value to it (and they could probably have escaped together).
Of course, plot armour saves their asses and through this supreme act of selflessness, they finally realise their love for each other and get together, swearing to devote their lives to each other.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtQuite cute, if I do say so myself, but it's still cliché.
Not to mention that the chances of this happening in real life are very low, especially when we consider my personality.
More probably than not, Arlan, Tristan's daughter, would just stab me in the throat 67 times in my sleep.
…
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Isn't that a good way to go, actually?
I mean, the New Dawn Guild members would surely kill Arlan for doing that to me, but I won't be around to care because, you know, I'll be dead.
"You… knew?" Tristan looked at me in what seemed to be horror.
Is it really that unbelievable?
"Anyone with the ability to read between the lines would be able to do so. You should work on your manipulating skills. Remember, not everyone is as easy as Lecia."
Not to mention that in Lecia's case, she was much more emotionally unstable than usual due to my so-called betrayal.
Though in my defence, I'd say that it was her fault that she believed in me.
Anyway, back then, I was slightly interested in what she would do to make me pay, but given how dumb she was, I decided to stop her because the paltry amusement her revenge attempts would have provided me would simply not have been worth the trouble.
Though according to my calculations, even if I managed to stop her from turning into an enemy, she should still hate me.
Not enough to go to any length to exact vengeance on me, of course, but if my body was burning in front of her and she had a bucket of water by her feet, she would accidentally trip and spill it.
Wow.
Lecia is an asshole, isn't she?
"I wasn't trying to manipulate you."
"Right. You just wished for me to protect your daughter. However, you felt extremely sorry for making me do it for free, so you decided that her knowledge of the Organisation was a fair price for her protection."
Yup, makes perfect sense.
That is, to someone who needs that information and is desperate to end that Organisation.
"Yes, it is."
"I see. But before we discuss the terms of my employment as her bodyguard, I'd like to go back a bit in our conversation and correct you on a few things."
"…" His eyes narrowed.
"Your first point was that even if numbers cannot win against pure strength, strength alone cannot defend everything against those numbers. Isn't that right?"
"…Yes."
"Here's the thing though; the strength in this case is not alone."
Strength=me=First Being.
"Right, you have the New Dawn Guild-"
"And that's where you are wrong."
Tristan, you fucking idiot.
"Hmm?"
"Do you truly think that yours is the only Organisation that operates in the shadows of this country?"
If yes, then he's probably right.
And that's because I'm the only member of my newly created Secret Organisation, and since I'm lazy, I've yet to do anything Organisation-like.
And I probably won't.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSo for now, it's an Organisation that exists only on paper.
But Tristan isn't aware of that.
"So you are a part of an Organisation too?" Tristan's eyes widened.
"Yup."
Oh no, wait, I created the Elixir and bound the top dogs of this country through a contract, through which I can force them to do a lot of things for me. I almost forgot about that.
Wow.
Anyway, my point stands.
"And you think your Organisation can beat mine?" Tristan asked.
"We couldn't lose even if we tried to."
I just need to mobilise the top dogs and send them after his Organisation.
Ez peezy lemon squeezy.
"And what makes you so confident? Or is it just another law?"
Oh, feisty.
"Don't worry, this time, it's confidence," I smiled. "I'm confident because I know a simple fact; I'm the weakest member of my Organisation."
Samur Professional Liar Eckart, at your service.
"Hah," he scoffed.
"That's not a joke. I'm genuinely the weakest out of everyone in the Organisation. It's so bad that everyone in the Organisation thinks of me as a glass statue which will break with a single touch- though I suppose that's what I am compared to them."
"Huh?"
"Those guys are too overprotective of me. I just don't get it. I keep telling them they worry for nothing. I mean, they are monsters outside the norm while I'm just a normal human, but they never listen."
Not sure about the Organisation with no members in it, but the members of the New Dawn Guild do seem to believe that.
Like what, is this the first time a 12-year-old child has blown his arms to kill an enemy? Show some emotional maturity.
Goddamnit.
