Chapter 355 Life And Death
Tristan's black garments fluttered in the air as the wind blew.
Wretched could not move as the golden light surrounding him appeared to have drifted into his body.
Jonathan and the rest of the group watched as the golden light surged through Wretched's body.
Wretched let out an anguish roar.
Sheer shock deluged Jonathan and the others when they took in the scene.
Despite being unbeatable in their hearts, Wretched proved to be powerless when facing the Demon Emperor
directly.
Just then, they heard Tristan speak loudly. “Wretched, your greatest strength lies in the limitless mutational potential
of your cellular structure. But I will extract this ability from you today.”
Jonathan and Mabel grew increasingly uneasy as they couldn't bear to watch Wretched perish. After all, a few
moments ago, Wretched had saved Jonathan's life.
“No, I have to stop him,” declared Jonathan. Without any hesitation, he rushed toward the Novem Aeternus
Formation.
Shortly after, he arrived and stood in front of the Novem Aeternus Formation.
At this moment, Tristan was drawing out the golden light from Wretched's body.
Jonathan had a strong feeling that Wretched's unique ability would vanish as soon as the golden light was entirely
drawn out.
How do I break the Novem Aeternus Formation?
Filled with intense anxiety, Jonathan had not even entertained the thought that if he truly broke the Nine Revolutions
Infinite Formation, he would be incurring the wrath of the Demon Emperor.
To someone like Tristan, eliminating Jonathan was as effortless as squashing an ant.
As Jonathan was racking his brain, he suddenly remembered the formation secrets his master had once shared
with him.
The Novem Aeternus Formation was constructed with the utmost precision, making it impenetrable to anyone who
tried to approach it. Nevertheless, there was a catch.
An idea came to Jonathan. He picked up a rock from the ground and hurled it with great force at the Novem
Aeternus Formation.
The rock he threw unexpectedly broke through the Novem Aeternus Formation and infiltrated its interior.
Soon, the presence of the rock caused a disturbance within the formation, disrupting its previously pristine state.
Just then, Wretched bellowed in anger, charged forward, and shattered the Novem Aeternus Formation, escaping
from it.
Its eyes turned blood-red and its body took on a transparent hue. Its internal organs were now visible to the naked
eye.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWretched's body began to mutate once again.
Tristan had been on the brink of achieving his goal of acquiring Wretched's life, but Jonathan's intervention had
disrupted his plans. Because of that, he directed his anger at Jonathan.
“You peasant, I must admit, I underestimated you, causing you to disrupt my plans,” said Tristan coldly. As he
finished his sentence, he swiftly descended and materialized before Jonathan.
Tristan's murderous intent was unmistakable.
Mabel was startled as she realized the perilous situation that Jonathan was in. Although she knew her attempt to
help could be useless and potentially fatal, she didn't have time to consider the consequences.
Without hesitation, she rushed to Jonathan's side and stood between him and Tristan, shielding Jonathan from the
latter. She then respectfully bowed to Tristan and said, “Demon Emperor, please calm down. I'm sorry about
Jonathan's improper behavior. I beg you to spare him from your wrath.”
“Go away!” Tristan waved his hand as if attempting to swat a fly away.
Despite being three meters away from Mabel, Tristan was capable of striking her from a distance. Mabel couldn't
withstand the attack and was sent flying. She crashed to the ground and coughed up blood.
Jeff was alarmed by such a sight because, while he didn't care much about other things, he deemed Jonathan as an
acquaintance. He couldn't stand idly by and watch Jonathan die like that.
Jeff quickly rushed toward Adonis and pleaded, “Adonis, we have to save Jonathan!”
Adonis shook his head and said with a wry smile, “The Demon Emperor is capricious, and even if we join forces,
we're not strong enough to match his power. Attacking him is simply sending us to death. Since it's a suicide
mission, why bother? Besides, it won't change anything.”
For a moment, Jeff found himself unable to refute the logic of Adonis' words.
He sighed and ultimately held his tongue, choosing not to help.
As cultivators of Destino Art, they should possess the consciousness of avoiding peril and pursuing security.
Tristan had never taken Jonathan seriously. When he was about to end Jonathan's life, Wretched appeared, shielding
Jonathan from him using its body.
When Tristan launched his palm attack, it hit Wretched's body instead.
Wretched took three steps back due to the attack and bumped into Jonathan, causing the latter to be thrown into
the air.
Luckily, Jonathan was unharmed. He quickly got up, hurried over to Mabel, and asked, “Are you all right?”
Mabel stood up at the same time. She nodded and said, “I'm fine.”
The two's focus quickly returned to Wretched and Tristan.
With a sneer, Wretched challenged, “My cells have now evolved to the perfect state. Even your Novem Aeternus
Formation cannot harm me. You won't be able to kill me today.”
Tristan's expression was grim when he heard that. “Today was supposed to be the day of your death. However, that
brat happened to be the most formidable Chosen One and altered your fate. Since you are difficult to kill, he must
die instead.”
Tristan's words caused Wretched's face to darken. “I will not allow you to kill my friend.”
Tristan snorted. “Can you stop me if I want him dead?” With that, he flipped his palm and directed a forceful strike
at Wretched, sending him flying again.
In a flash, Tristan appeared before Jonathan.
He forcefully grabbed Jonathan's neck with one hand and lifted him. Jonathan instantly felt suffocated, and his face
turned purple.
His legs flailed wildly, but it was futile in helping him to escape.
Tristan's expression was menacing as he said, “The people I despise most in my entire life are people with good
luck. If Lance hadn't relied on his status as the Emperor of Heaven's Curse and his luck to protect himself, I wouldn't
have been defeated by him. Now that you, the Chosen One, are here today, I'm curious to see if anyone can save
you from me.”
“Let go of him!” Mabel yelled when she noticed Jonathan was in grave danger and charged forward.
“Get lost!” Tristan roared. Mabel instantly collapsed to the ground in agony and writhed in pain as if she was under a
spell.
The power of the Demon Emperor was truly terrifying.
All the individuals present were Divine Masters, but in front of the Demon Emperor, they were nothing.
Only Wretched was able to withstand Tristan's attacks, but it had no way of retaliating.
“Let go of him!” Wretched shouted and charged at Tristan recklessly.
Tristan didn't even look at Wretched. He merely shot a punch in the air, and Wretched was sent flying.
Wretched charged at Tristan again, and, once again, the latter sent it flying.
Tristan didn't bother looking at Wretched, for his focus was on Jonathan.
There was no doubt that Wretched was unable to save Jonathan, and the latter could feel death drawing near.
Jonathan was suffocating, and while in a daze, he felt he was dead. His mind was blank.
Although Jonathan had fantasized about his death many times, he had never thought it would be like this and that it
would come so quickly.
Ah, looks like I won't be receiving any miraculous intervention.
Wretched's aid to save Jonathan appeared powerless in the face of the overwhelming strength of the Demon
Emperor.
At that moment, no one could tell who could save Jonathan from the Demon Emperor.
Perhaps the Divine Emperor could, but it was impossible for him to come.
As for the Emperor of Chanaea, he was not likely to come either.
Or perhaps the Asura Emperor would be the one to save Jonathan. However, at that point, it seemed impossible as
well.
Mabel was overwhelmed with grief. She almost believed that Jonathan had died.
Just then, Tristan let go of Jonathan and threw the latter on the ground.
Jonathan lay there lifelessly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmTristan was in disbelief. “Impossible. This is not possible. How could this brat be...”
Mabel was overjoyed to see that Jonathan had survived the ordeal and quickly rushed to his side.
She reached out to feel his breath, and upon doing so, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Jonathan's breath was weak, he was not in a life-threatening state.
“This is impossible.” Tristan spun around, transformed into a radiant stream of light, and soared into the sky.
Soon, Tristan was nowhere to be seen.
Tristan, the Demon Emperor, had left just like that.
Everyone was puzzled by the sudden turn of events, but they all breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Jonathan
was safe.
Wretched quickly rushed to Jonathan's side while Jeff and Adonis stared at each other.
Adonis stroked his beard and said, “Strange. This is really strange. The Demon Emperor is not the indecisive type. If
he said he wanted to kill the kid, he would not have shown any mercy to him. But why did he suddenly change his
mind and spare the kid? What did he mean by impossible?”
Adonis was utterly confounded.
Even Jeff couldn't wrap his head around it.
None of them knew what the Demon Emperor was thinking.
Mabel and Wretched didn't dwell on it much, as their main concern was Jonathan's well-being.
Wretched soon returned to its normal appearance, that of a young man.
That night, Wretched disbanded all the demons and gathered the ghost messengers, instructing them to leave and
not cause any trouble.
All the demons and ghost messengers dared not defy his commands.
Jeff and Adonis, on the other hand, left right after the incident.
Jeff was slightly embarrassed because he did not intervene and had left Jonathan to face the danger alone.
However, such a thought did not cross Mabel's mind, nor did she pay attention to Jeff. She believed that even if Jeff
had intervened, it would have been a futile effort that would have resulted in his demise. Because of that, she had
no intention of blaming him or feeling disappointed in him. Jeff was the one who felt guilty and uneasy.
Jeff informed Mabel of their intention to depart and then left with Adonis.
Jonathan woke up in the temple at five in the morning.
Wretched, Vananeru, Mabel, and Jonathan were the only ones in the temple at that moment.
Jonathan woke up groggily, and his first words were, “Am I dead?”
Mabel couldn't help but smile in relief. “You're not dead. You're still full of life.”
Jonathan gradually regained consciousness and immediately sat up.
He scanned everyone around him and voiced his skepticism, “What happened? Where is the Demon Emperor? Who
drove him away? Who saved me?”
Mabel replied, “No one saved you. Actually, no one was capable of saving you at that time. You are fine now
because the Demon Emperor let you go.”
Jonathan couldn't help feeling odd after hearing Mabel's words.
