Chapter 444 Fire Phoenix
Jonathan did not actually intend to attack Torrence. He was merely putting on a show to earn Moose's trust. As
Jonathan stepped forward, Skylar quickly blocked Torrence's path.
At this point, Torrence was already consumed with rage. He did not care who was standing in front of him and
swung his sword without any hesitation.
Torrence's swordsmanship was far superior to that of Skylar's. There was a blur of movement. Then, a frightening
chill ran down Jonathan's spine. All he could see was the flash of Torrence's sword.
The sword radiated with a brilliance that shook the world.
That was the reason why Torrence did not want to engage in a prolonged fight with Jonathan. Otherwise, if Torrence
were to unleash his full potential, Jonathan's life might just end there and then.
Jonathan, with no other choice, rolled away to dodge Torrence's blade.
He quickly got back on his feet, but it was impossible for him to intercept Torrence.
Defeated, he slinked back to Moose's side in despair.
In truth, he had not held back against Torrence. He wrung his hands at Moose and said bitterly, “This Torrence is
truly terrifying, Mr. Moose. Whether you believe it or not, I did my best. If I hadn't dodged quickly just now, I would
have already sacrificed myself for Theos.”
Moose was well aware of Torrence's impressive skills, and he had also observed the fight earlier. After all, the old
man's eyes were still sharp. He knew that Jonathan had not held back at that moment, and he was fully aware of
how deadly that strike had been.
With a solemn expression, Moose nodded at Jonathan and said in a detached tone, “I'll report this to Theos.” After a
brief pause, he stroked his beard absent-mindedly. This Torrence is a real trouble!
At that moment, Torrence was slowly making his way to the exit, trying to escape quietly. However, Skylar was not
stupid. He had posted four of his men to guard the cave entrance. Thus the men chased after Torrence.
Torrence raced into the distance with Skylar's men following closely behind him. Their figures were moving so
quickly that they seemed like mere flashes.
At that moment, Moose retrieved an object from his storage ring with a resolute expression on his face.
It was a crystal radiating golden light.
It was clear that, while it looked like a crystal, it was not actually a crystal.
Jonathan was unfamiliar with this object, but there was no doubt that it was extremely valuable. It was a magic gem
capable of storing a vast amount of spiritual energy.
It acted like an energy bank.
Moose slipped the magic gem into his mouth. The gem melted into pure spiritual energy that spiraled up to his
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtcerebral domain. The magic gem was not just any crystal, but a unique source of spiritual energy. It was formed
from the accumulation of powerful magic elements, and high concentrations of spiritual energy hummed within the
gem.
Such a magic gem was extremely rare.
Moose did not possess many such gems. However, at that moment, using up one of his precious resources was the
least of his concern.
Moose only had three magic gems. As soon as he had consumed one of them, his spiritual energy was immediately
restored back to almost its full potential.
Then, Moose pulled out his magic wand.
It was exquisitely crafted from peach wood, and age had turned the wood into a beautiful deep brown shade.
Moose waved his wand in the air while murmuring incantations in a long-forgotten language.
Jonathan could not understand even a single word.
Is magic even real? Is it proven by science or is he just putting on a show?
The truth of magic was up for debate.
Although Jonathan could not understand the words, he knew that the incantations served a purpose.
The facts about magnetic fields, molecules, and elements of the universe were shrouded in mystery. Just as
humans and animals have their own ways of communicating amongst themselves, there had to be a way for
humankind to communicate with the elements.
Sounds and languages were a powerful conduit. Even if a human were unable to understand an animal's cry, he
could still feel its emotions just from the sound of the cry.
There was a six-syllable mantra in Barsm whereby each syllable had its own meaning, each representing a different
great virtue. Even if one were to recite only one or two syllables, he would still generate a bounty of good karma for
himself.
There was also a powerful single-syllable mantra in Barsm which was known as the sound of subjugation.
When powerful Barsm disciples recited the mantra, it was said that even the devil would tremble in fear.
Furthermore, it was written in the Destino that one should always send all the best warriors to the front line of a
battle.
Jonathan came to understand that humankind's way of communicating with the elements was through magic
incantations. There were many different forms of magic: some for healing, some for harming, and some have
wide-ranging destructive power, while others have localized effects. The incantation being recited at that time was
a spell to distinguish the different types of magic.
Of course, this was all Jonathan's thoughts.
At that moment, something had changed in the field of battle.
Moose, a Rank Seven Magician, was beginning to unleash his powers.
His face bore a solemn expression. He waved his magic wand and two Fire Phoenixes manifested in the air.
The claws of the phoenixes were dangerously sharp, and their bodies were enveloped in a radiant golden light that
blinded anyone who dared to look at them.
With a powerful flap of their wings, the two phoenixes immediately flew off to intercept Torrence. It soon became
apparent that the phoenixes could also breathe fire. Although the fire that emitted from their beaks was not a true
flame, it was still capable of killing men.
The phoenixes, like two golden arrows, flew straight and true toward Torrence at lightning speed. They stretched
out their claws toward him, aiming for his face.
Torrence's situation had suddenly become perilous.
He quickly swung his body to the side to dodge the phoenixes' attack. At the same time, he swept upwards with his
sword.
The blade slashed through the bodies of both phoenixes.
However, they remained unaffected. The phoenixes continued to claw at Torrence's face, and their beaks continued
to spew flame as if nothing had happened.
Skylar and his men took the opportunity to surround Torrence.
Torrence looked wildly at the men besieging him from all sides and at the two phoenixes attacking him from the air.
Anything short of a miracle and Torrence's fate would be sealed at that moment.
“Torrence, you are dead!” Skylar declared. He stared at Torrence, his arch nemesis, with hatred in his eyes. He let
out a furious roar and charged towards him.
Torrence's sword flashed as he danced amongst the men, evading their strikes and retaliating with his own parry.
All the men had jumped on him at once. Even the phoenixes were raining fire down on him.
Torrence's life stood on a dangerous balance. At that moment, he spun his body and executed the Blossom Tornado
technique.
Hallowed Sword shone with radiant light. Its brilliance blinded everyone in its vicinity.
The movements of the sword went into a frenzy, deflecting the array of attacks coming from all sides.
Blossom Tornado was the last trick up Torrence's sleeve. It had drained him of his energy but had only managed to
buy him a little extra time.
Skylar and his men were only temporarily staved off and were already regrouping to launch their second wave of
attack.
“Stop!” A cold, commanding voice called out.
The two phoenixes let out an angry shriek and disappeared into the air.
“How dare you!” Moose shouted angrily.
Skylar and his men halted in mid-attack.
Torrence seized the opportunity to lunge forward with his sword, killing a Golden Knight in a single fatal strike.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAmidst all the bloodshed, Torrence managed to escape from the men who had encircled him.
Then, he stood still and stared at Moose.
Skylar and his men, too, turned their eyes in the same direction.
All of them saw Jonathan with one hand around Moose's neck and the other reaching for his magic wand.
Moose's face was flushed with anger, and hatred burned in his eyes.
Skylar and his men immediately erupted in a state of agitation.
“Jonathan, what are you doing? Let Mr. Moose go right now! Otherwise, I will make sure you regret it!” Skylar
threatened.
Ducson and the others were also glaring at Jonathan.
Torrence, however, wore an indecipherable expression. He had not expected Jonathan to come to his rescue.
“What am I doing? Well, as you can clearly see, I'm helping the rebel, Torrence!” Jonathan retorted with a laugh.
“Why are you doing this?” Moose asked tightly. It was difficult for him to speak with his windpipes blocked, but he
carried on, “Do you even know what you are doing? You are playing with fire, and you will get yourself burned! You
are challenging Theos and Supreme Sect. Do you really think you will win against Theos?”
“Don't try to scare me, Mr. Moose. I know you well, and I know the secret plans you keep to yourself,” Jonathan
countered with a sneer.
“Why are you helping the rebel?” Moose asked furiously. He could not understand why Jonathan had made that
move.
“It's simple. If Torrence had not rescued my sister and I, we would have died in Snowhaven,” Jonathan explained
casually.
Realization dawned on Moose and his men.
“You don't have to do this. You are bringing more trouble to yourself than you can handle,” Torrence said, looking
straight at Jonathan.
“Oh, I know,” Jonathan replied simply.
Torrence was taken aback by Jonathan's casual acceptance. “And you're still willing to do this?”
“I'm not a religious person. I don't believe in gods. I only live by my own conscience, and I will not stand by and
watch my savior die,” Jonathan said firmly.
A gleam of understanding and appreciation flashed in Torrence's eyes.
“Then, what will you do next?” he asked Jonathan.
The two men exchanged words easily, ignoring all the other men on the battlefield.
Moose and his men were helpless in the situation.
“Shall we kill them all? We will silence them once and for all!” Jonathan wondered out loud.
Skylar and his men were infuriated to hear Jonathan's casual remark.
Does he think we are so easy to kill?
“We can kill them all, but word will still get around,” Torrence replied. “Theos has far-reaching powers. She can
easily use her omniscience to find out the truth.”
