After Sigurd's team successfully rescued the small unit in Cebu, Arlan bid farewell to the commanding general.
Lieutenant General Rivera was still thinking about Arlan's words. The news about the serum that could enhance the physical abilities of humans was still lingering in his mind. If he could inject this serum into his soldiers, their mission success rate would increase dramatically. "How should I convince him to give some for my soldiers?" He mumbled as he leaned on his chair.

After Arlan woke up from his sleep, the first thing he did was brush his teeth and take a hot bath. He then took a light breakfast before he headed towards the quarantine area at the edge of the island. He wanted to visit the four surviving soldiers who safely escorted the two researchers.
When he arrived, he noticed that the commanding general was already there. He was chatting with Gerald, one of the surviving soldiers of the five-man unit. The guy was wrapped up in gauze and he also had a shoulder strap. They were separated by a glass wall which prevents contamination in case one of the quarantined people were infected with the zombie virus.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLieutenant General turned his head when he heard someone walking towards them. He raised his eyebrows in surprise after seeing that it was Arlan. He stood up and greeted him. "Good morning, Mr. Roa."
Arlan smiled and waved his hand. "There's no need to be formal, general." He said before he moved his gaze towards Gerald.
The commanding general quickly made the introductions. "Gerald, this man right here is Mr. Arlan Dominic Roa. He is our new leader. He was also the person who sent those soldiers to rescue your group."
"Mr. Roa, this is Corporal Gerald. According to the group's testimony, they managed to survive because he held off the giant zombie all by himself."
Arlan was surprised when he heard this. Gerald was just a normal soldier, but he actually managed to hold off that giant zombie! He had seen the corpse of that zombie and it was huge! "You have done well, Gerald."
Gerald shook his head. "That zombie was already injured by our team leader. If it wasn't for him, all of us would have already died." His eyes trembled as he recalled the sacrifice of their team leader.
Arlan sighed as he said. "I'm sorry for your loss. Your team leader was a great person. I will make sure that he will receive a proper burial." He learned about the courageous act of the small unit's team leader after reading Sigurd's report. It was a pity that he lost such a good soldier.
Gerald held back his tears as he lowered his head. "Thank you so much, Mr. Roa! Thank you so much!"
Arlan shook his head. "No! I should be the one thanking you." He was genuinely grateful to Gerald's team. Because of them, two important researchers were saved. These two were his hope to create a vaccine for the zombie virus.
Arlan didn't stay for long and left to give the two some privacy. This also made him realize that the commanding general was like a caring father towards his soldiers.
After leaving the quarantine area, he went to the lab via boat. The lab was located on an island across from the quarantine facility. After they arrived on the small island, two lab personnel came to greet him. They brought him to the lab and asked him to wear a blue full-body protective suit.
Arlan complied without saying anything. Although his body was already enhanced by the Body Enhancing Serum and the Evolution Liquid, he wasn't foolish enough to think that he was already immune to the zombie virus.
After wearing his protective suit, the two lab personnel took him inside the laboratory where the corpse of the giant zombie was preserved.
"Mr. Roa, the corpse is still fresh and its blood is highly contagious so you have to be careful." The lab personnel warned him sternly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmArlan nodded his head. "I understand."
Soon, they brought him to a sealed room.
Arlan finally saw the corpse of the zombie. It was placed on top of a wide dissection table. It was only at this moment he realized how big it was. "This thing is a Tank-type zombie." He had seen this zombie in the Zombie Dictionary. According to the book, it has powerful strength and tough skin. He poked the skin of the zombie, an act which scared the nearby lab personnel.
"Mr. Roa! Be careful! There is still some blood on its skin!"
Arlan raised his hand and said. "It's fine. I'm wearing this protective suit anyway." Arlan's face turned serious the more he observed the Tank-type zombie. 'This thing would be dangerous for normal soldiers. Only the elites injected with the Body Enhancing Serum could kill it.'
He thought that Tank-type zombies would only appear after a few days, but he had underestimated the zombies' growth rate.
Arlan turned his head towards the researchers and said. "Give me a report once you discover something from this corpse."
Hearing his words, the researchers nodded their heads solemnly. "Yes, Mr. Roa!"
Arlan didn't stay inside the lab. He headed back to the main island of Last City. He looked for the commanding general and asked him about the situation of the capital.
"The virus has already spread in Manila, but the acting president was quick to act. He managed to evacuate a large number of people. As for the shelter... they already started building it, but the construction is slow because of the workers' fear towards the virus." The commanding general reported. Yesterday, he sent an army to support the acting president, but their presence didn't help in alleviating the worries of the citizens.
Arlan furrowed his eyebrows upon hearing this. The virus was spreading faster than he had thought. He only slept for a few hours, but it had already spread to the capital. "It looks like we still need to help the acting president." He mumbled.
