140 Link
Kairen wanted to talk to Alan more. He still wanted to know why he helped them find the culprit. Why did he save Darren and Carlson, how was he so skilled at using his power if he was not a trained agent, or why did he live in that mountain instead of having a normal life and job using his power.
However, he couldn’t do so. They weren’t in the right time and situation to have a long friendly conversation.
The group that had entered the building came out after about 20 minutes. There were no enemies inside and most of the place was ruined, but they still managed to find some documents and stuff that might help them further in the investigation.
The backup forces arrived a little bit later. Now that the enemies were captured and killed, there was nothing for the two units to do. The backup forces took care of the rest of the things, which would be transferring the captured, helping the injured, and clearing the area.
Just like that, their job was done. The two units teleported back after making sure that everything was done. The members of unit 6 were all dismissed as they had nothing else to do.
But the members of unit 5 still had things to take care of.
That was especially true for Kairen.
“Isn’t the spell ready yet?”
Deputy team leader Bray sat on the other side of the table across from Kairen, waiting in anticipation for his answer.
.....
Kairen chewed the sandwich in his mouth before answering her.
“Just a few more moments.”
He said that and took another bite of the sandwich. The deputy team leader looked at Kairen who seemed to be in the heavens due to the joy of eating one single sandwich with a weird gaze and asked again.
“About how long?”
Kairen raised his other hand and moved five of his fingers, his mouth too full to say anything.
“Five more minutes?”
Nod nod
He nodded his head.
“Sigh!”
The deputy team leader sighed and leaned back.
“What kind of spell activates with a timer?”
“It’s my mana that needs time to refill, not the spell.”
Kairen took the last bite of his sandwich and threw the wrapping paper inside the trash bin. After that, he picked up a mana potion and drank it all, then picked up the bottle of coca and finished the soda inside, throwing the bottle into the trash bin.
He then picked up his phone and checked the messenger apps one by one. Seeing that he had not a single notification, he placed the phone down on the table with a sad heart.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhile doing all that, he was constantly checking a magic spell that was about to get activated.
The spell he used to track the soil dude, Link.
As the name proposed, this spell had one job, and that would be linking two targets to each other. The spell would be activated once you insert mana into it and would show you the other party’s location.
This was a useful spell for people who went on expeditions or a mission that required them to get separated from each other as it could provide the location of the other person you were linked to if you inserted some mana into it. Of course, it had an area of effect. The spell wouldn’t work anymore one got out of that area or if one side was killed.
Since Kairen was out of mana when he was casting the spell, he couldn’t activate it right away and locate the place where the two people had gone. Now, after drinking a few mana potions and resting, he was finally able to insert some mana inside the spell and activate it.
“I still think it was a reckless move to use such a spell.”
Serria, who was sitting in another chair and eating her fourth sandwich, pointed at Kairen with the tip of her soda bottle.
“You know how this spell works. It’s a link, not a tracker. Which means they can also use this link to locate you!”
Hearing that, the deputy team leader flinched.
“They can also locate you?”
“They can locate me if they insert mana into the spell.”
“W-What?”
Deputy team leader Bray jumped up from her seat in a haste.
“What were you thinking while using such a spell? Cancel it right now!”
“Wait, deputy team leader-!”
“I said cancel it!”
She slammed the table with her hand, making Kairen’s flinch.
“They won’t be able to do anything!”
Kairen raised his hands in the air in a gesture to show the deputy team leader that everything was fine.
“How so?”
The deputy team leader’s face was scary.
She glared at Kairen and waited for his answer.
Kairen hurriedly raised one finger and started to explain.
“First, for them to be able to locate me, the target must be able to insert mana inside the spell. The target should do that personally and it can’t be done by someone else or with a tool. That soil dude was an attribute user, so there is no way for him to insert mana inside the spell and locate me.”
He then moved his other finger.
“Second, even if he is able to somehow insert mana inside the spell, the only thing he will find out is that I’m in SMF’s headquarters and I’m more than sure that they already know this place’s location and also know that we worked for SMF. It’s not like he can suddenly come here to kill me only because I know his location.”
Deputy team leader Bray’s concerned face slightly loosened after hearing those words, but Kairen still kept talking.
“And third, even if he could somehow insert mana into it, and even if I wasn’t here but in another location which made it easy for him to target me, he would still find out nothing. The whole thing can’t happen in the first place.”
Kairen lowered his hand. Seeing the deputy team leader not say anything, he continued his words.
“Because I deleted the reverse locating option from the spell. It’s now a one-way link and he can’t take advantage of him being linked to me. That means, only I can use it, not him.”
Kairen smiled proudly and leaned back on his chair. The idea had crossed his mind when the man was about to run away, and he didn’t hesitate to actually do what crossed his mind.
“PFF- Cough cough!”
Serria put down her sandwich and hit her chest with her fist. She raised her head and looked at Kairen with widened eyes.
“You- cough- you did what?”
The deputy team leader rushed to her side and slapped her back a few times. Serria completely ignored her near-choke state and just looked at Kairen.
“What did you do?”
Kairen slowly moved back in his seat after seeing Serrian’s weird reaction. He looked at Serria’s bloodshot eyes and moved back even more.
‘What?’
“I deleted that part?”
Serria pushed the deputy team leader aside and jumped at Kairen.
“Whoah!”
“How did you do that? HOW?”
“Hey! Serria! Move back!”
The deputy team leader grabbed Serria from behind and pulled her backward.
“I learned it from captain Neal!”
Hearing that name, the deputy team leader momentarily stopped pulling Serria and she also came closer.
“She taught you such a thing?”
Kairen moved back in the chair again.
“She taught me about the structure of the spells and said I could change them however I wanted!”
Serria released Kairen’s collar and moved back with a disappointed face.
“And I thought you got your memory back...”
She mumbled that under her lips, but her voice was too loud and clear to be considered a mumble.

Deputy team leader Bray looked between Kairen and Serria with a confused face.
“Why? Is there something wrong with his memories?”
Hearing that, Kairen moved back in his seat again.
BAMM
And fell down from it.
.....
“Oww!”
He hurriedly stood up and started talking while massaging his butt.
“L- Let me test the spell. I’m ready to insert mana.”
“Ah! I forgot about that for a moment.”
The deputy team leader turned away from Serria and went to bring a paper and a pen.
Kairen sent an angry glare to Serria and also turned away.
. . . .
Kairen opened his eyes. He pulled back the mana from the spell and deactivated it.
“So, where are they?”
“Could you locate them?”
“Write the coordinates on the paper before you forget about them!”
The deputy team leader and the others who had been staring at Kairen for the past few minutes nervously spat out words as soon as he opened his eyes.
“They...”
Kairen paused for a moment as he remembered what had he seen.
“W-what?”
His dazed face made the others even more nervous. Kairen picked up the pen and looked at the map placed in front of him.
After searching for a few seconds, he marked a spot on the map.
“Here...”
“....”
“....”
Kairen then drew a line on the map.
“And they were moving this way.”
